  1. These guys were all ageists.
  2. Uh oh, Brady hurt his left knee (the one with the prior ACL injury) and left practice today.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) Lets be honest, isnt it already that way in every way except by legal name? Yeah I mean for the most part it is, but I think if you're truly allowing an 18 year old to go to a school where he can make the most money possible, 99% of the time that will be the deciding factor. Right now schools with money might spend more lavishly on other amenities that get a lot of recruits, but the ability to earn money will trump all of that. At the end of the day I just don't feel bad for the players. The ones who actually make the NCAA and schools money are more than likely making themselves rich in the pro game anyway. The rest need the money those players generate to be able to play sports in college. Add in the amenities they already get over normal students and I just don't see the big deal. Back to video games, a friend sent me this deal for some older headliners for real cheap: https://www.humblebundle.com/

Incredibly hot and dating a rich professional athlete. Suicide makes sense.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) They could stop pretending that college sports aren't a multi-billion dollar industry and pay their most important employees (or let them be paid through licensing fees, jersey sales, etc.) My problem with paying players is that you've just created a professional league where the schools with the most money will win each time. "Come here and we'll provide you with the richest boosters to pay for your autograph." I get that there's really no parity in college football as-is, but at least now you have teams that win conference titles or go to BCS bowl games once a decade.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2...s-ncaa-football This wasnt predictable at all. These are conferences though, not schools. The conference has an easy argument for any potential lawsuit (are the conferences even involved in those lawsuits?)- "yeah, we wanted our member schools and their stadiums represented in the game. That doesn't mean we wanted specific players in the game."

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) I didn't really think there was much to read into any of this, and I don't really see why people are having such a hard time seeing the obvious. Maybe it's too obvious? Or maybe I'm crazy? It doesn't seem like any sort of mystery. Walter White will be found out as the drug lord Heisenberg (well, actually, he already was). As it unfolds and super-angry Hank does what a super-angry DEA agent does and moves forward with the "bust", it will be a big f***ing story as "former science teacher and current car wash owner runs drug empire from suburban home". At some point during this Hank will either give Walter a headstart or Walter'll just straight-up flee. House is seized and emptied and then left to be vandalized. Walt returns 6-9 months later for the ricin, presumably he's been on the lamb and POSSIBLY thought to be dead. Carol is really f***ing surprised to see him. Or maybe SS2k5 is right and Hank just randomly decides to torture Walt. What a great guess! I'm more curious if Skyler will be implicated. I agree this makes the most logical sense, but on the other hand, it's too obvious. This show doesn't do the obvious.
  8. Blah blah blah, why has the 'Buster gone dead?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) Aaron Paul reddit AMA Good read. Though I still don't understand what Reddit is or why it's so popular. Isn't it just a really old forum format?

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) The house being trashed lead me to believe something big has to go down. A house does not fall apart that quickly if they move out. The thing is, does Walt have six months to live? I think it's safe to assume that (1) Hank doesn't back down, but instead forces Walt to go into hiding and a massive manhunt ensues, (2) the house was raided (hence the condition) and (3) Heisenberg becomes a house-hold name (queue the reaction of the neighbor being terrified, although I guess she could have been told Walt was dead and reacted that way because she thought she saw a ghost).

True Blood is terrible. I mean, it's been terrible for a while, but that last episode (half being devoted to the funeral of a secondary character) was truly god-awful. It seems like the season finale isn't much to be excited about either. I think i'm finally done.
  14. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) The funny thing is that when Eric Gordon decommitted from Illinois and switched to Indiana, I was an Illini fan. Then three months later Indiana gave me the best offer out of all my college apps and I decided to go there for school...and promptly switched my allegiances to Indiana. You know what the really, really funny thing is? When he did this, I didn't blame him for it. I thought his dad was sketchy (still do), but didn't blame Gordon himself. So I got to be the odd man out among Illini fans when it happened, but now if I disagree on that situation it will probably be assumed I'm doing so just because I went to Indiana. EDIT: More to the point, I didn't blame Gordon OR Sampson when I was still an Illini fan. I think Sampson is a scumbag for other reasons, but it has nothing to do with Gordon and never did for me. I have a buddy who did the same thing - was an Illini fan for his entire childhood, decided to go to Indiana and is now a big Hoosiers fan. I don't get how you can switch allegiances so easily. I never blamed Gordon, he's just a kid. I did think everyone else involved was incredibly shady though, including Sampson. IIRC he switched at basically the last possible second, making it nearly impossibly for Weber to find someone else decent. The funniest part about the whole saga of Sampson was Indiana fans being so upset that their perfect reputation had been destroyed. It's like they forgot about the coach they had that choked players but never got reprimanded for it. "That's just tough love! He's getting those boys to play! We've won 5 championships!"
  15. The wife and I checked out some Toyotas this weekend. All of the Prius', the Camry Hybrid and the Avalon Hybrid. I was amazed at how much room the regular Prius had. The Prius V was even bigger and probably had more space than is really necessary for a commuter car/short-length kid taxi. The Camry is what it is. Wasn't too impressed. But the Avalon, wow. Very sleek looking, luxurious, had all the bells and whistles. Gets 40-41 mpg though, so not as good as the 50 for the regular Prius, but obviously bigger and much more comfortable. We could take that on a road trip if we wanted to.

Wow, very excited for the return of Homeland:
  17. Okafor also said he's planning an unofficial visit to Illinois (and MSU and OSU). And his dad says there's no lock that they two of them end up at Duke or even play together in college.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) What goes around, comes around? TOTALLY DIFFERENT YOU GUYS.
  19. I should have pulled the trigger on the lease deal they had like 6-8 months ago. It was $279/month with no money down. There's one dealer in Middleton WI that still has that deal through 8/31/13. I might have to make a road trip.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04:07 PM) I am all about getting one in 4-5 years, I'm hoping that either the S comes down in price as the tech comes cheaper, or they have a new model that as I mentioned earlier is made for "everyone's budget". I thought the X was going to be more expensive? I haven't seen any numbers other than the reservation price which is higher than the S' but that may just be because it hasn't released yet. So I emailed my buddy who works in the car industry about the Volt. He basically said not to get it now (or if I do, lease it) because the 2015 will be faster and have a 20-40% increase in range. The value of the current model will drop like a brick. He also warned me that the battery loses a lot of efficiency after 70k miles. I think we'll still check it out, but maybe think about leasing it for a few years instead of buying it. Re: Tesla, he knows someone who works there and apparently they have a goal of releasing the generation 3 model S in 2016 for about $35k.
  21. Trusting the word of 15 year olds is dumb.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) We've all gotten so f***ing old. Having a kid makes it feel 1000 times worse.
  23. I wonder too on these Leafs - how does it handle the winter in Chicago? You're driving, the wipers are on, the heats on full blast, the defrost is on, etc. That's a lot of electricity being used up I would think. Another reason why the back-up gas engine is a good safety net.
  24. I just saw a blog on cars.com about seats in the Leaf and they have our convertible seat and they claim there is plenty of room. It looks like there is very little room to actually put the kid in the car though.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) I think by the time I'm in the market for another car, dare I say it, I might actually be looking at something like this as a 2nd car. Of course by that point I'm sure all the good incentives will be gone and then the cost/benefit won't be as good. Chevy has a good thing going with the Volt and if they can make the car roomier and also figure out a way to get solid gas mileage with the gas engine, that would be one great vehicle. The problem is sales never really took off, even with the government offering $7,500 bucks. Unless they can get the price point down to 30-35, there's no way even a re-designed one will sell.
