  1. Yeah, let's excuse it on a technicality that he meant premiums, not overall costs.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) Your specific question was what happens when the bad guys are equally well armed to the good guys. Stop allowing the bad guys to buy the same weapons the good guys have, stop manufacturing them, stop selling them, destroy them whenever they can be found. Furthermore, start tracking them. Make them actual contraband. Investigate places selling illegal guns, make sure they know what is in their stockroom. Of course, that ought to happen with gun stores anyway but we can't even make sure gun stores know what is in their stockroom or find out which places are supplying most of the guns used in crimes because freedom. No I can't get rid of them all. But "I can't get rid of every stupid assault rifle" doesn't mean people wont' be saved by trying. Criminals can't have guns to begin with, that's already on the books.

  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) This is hitting all parts of the city. Not to the magnitude of the shooting last week. If Rahm can get money from Obama, this all can be covered with a saturation of police coverage. Ah yes, the old "throw more money at the problem" angle that hasn't ever worked.
  5. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) That will only cause a racial predicament. I would say you need tougher laws on gangs. Oh I dunno how about we consider them terrorists and slap them with whatever we can. So would going after gangs. You'll have SS and Balta crying about institutional racism and disparate impact.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) Disarm them. Too late for that.
  7. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 10:54 AM) O_O Are you trolling? Not at all. At some point the community has to take back the streets or this stuff continues. CPD can't/won't handle that type of job, so call up the reserves to do it.
  8. "American Politics: Not as bad as the Chinese!" The system is broken. We need to start from scratch.
  9. I had to explain to a bunch of Charlestonian's why Chicago wasn't Detroit after this story popped up last week. They seemed amazed when I told them all of this violence is basically centered in two small areas of the city, well away from the real $$. I also explained how it was my belief that the mayor, city council, county board, etc. are all "in" on never actually attacking this problem because if they did the violence would spread into more desirable places in the city, and then we really would end up like Detroit. People/businesses would leave for the burbs and the City would die. I still say call the national guard in with shoot to kill orders. That's the only way you stop this cycle of violence.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) Also affecting supply is how people are accessing care. Currently the best option for people without insurance is to visit an ER for everything. We need cheaper access. A whole lot of minor illnesses could be treated more effectively by PAs and Nurse Practitioners. Walk-in clinics are everywhere and are relatively cheap for those without insurance. And I agree they should be used more. The problem is a visit to a walk-in clinic still costs someone money. Stroger's ER is free. Maybe if the free option was taken away or made more difficult to obtain...
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) haha just kidding. he was burning bibles. it's ok now. release him from custody. Ha, this.

Was on vacation the last week and a half and got caught up on the last couple of Breaking Bad's last night. Holy crapoly. I fear that another episode won't be enough to wrap up the show like I want them too.
  13. My ESPN rankings (worst to best): Skip/Stephen A - the worst in the history of sports. Mike & Mike - fine in a pinch, prefer M&H (though Hanley is f***ing terrible. The best is Mully & anyone else), the schtick about Golic being a real man's man and Greenie being a girly man (or one being the dumb jock versus the smart student) is terrible and old and makes me want to punch my radio. I also despise whoever does that voice that they put on all their pre-tapped stuff. Cowherd - always takes the most controversial position on an issue to be different. He's the less annoying/punchable Jim Rome, but still not good. HUGE GAP SVP and Russillo - easily the best. SVP also gets credit for getting Russillo the respect he deserves from ESPN and not being a me first asshole.

Man, 12 years. I remember exactly where I was when I heard about the first plane. And I remember everything else the rest of that morning. The next few days and weeks are kind of a blur though as our campus shut down and my roommates and I were basically glued to CNN.
  15. Caught a weird movie last night: "Shame" starring Michael Fassbender and the chick that married the lead singer from Mumford. One of those movies without much of a plot or even a reason to be made other than to get a glimpse at a certain kind of person (in this case, a sex addict). It was a movie stuck too far up its own ass to be considered good, although it was interesting. The ending was meh though.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) Did anyone hear Jamie Dukes on Mully & Hanley? He said that watching the Bears it looked exactly like Lovie was coaching and absolutely nothing was different. Then he insinuated not only was Lovie fired for a racist reason, but that is also the reason why he isn't employed. Today Laurence Holmes got into a little twitter war with him over it, he was sincerely pissed off about it. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/09/10/jam...nt-than-lovies/ Missing the playoffs 5 out of 6 years will get you fired from most teams. Dukes a moron.
  17. I have Newton against Buffalo or Luck against the Dolphins. Kind of torn on what to do.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) I want to ask in reply if we're 100% sure Derrick Rose won't sit the season out again. Mostly I'm just writing this post because I'm still pissed off. I think we have to be at 110% to feel good about him playing this season.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) Big fan of Boardwalk myself. And I think Im going to be a bigger fan if they start focusing more on Capone. I just kind of laugh at the unnecessary nudity, basically every new female has to show her breasts. I have no complaints about that aspect of the show.
  20. Sounds like no gun was involved in the incident and they're not going to bring charges. I bet there's something up with his wife. She lied earlier about how much money they made, so not exactly a model citizen. More black on white hate crime in New York: http://nypost.com/2013/09/09/bus-riders-fa...ng-hate-attack/ Still cracks me up that in a story about hate crimes they can't say that the suspect is black in their description, even when they provide a picture. (And yes I realize this is the Post, but still. This nonsense journalism happens everywhere, including Chicago).

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) LOL! Loved the first episode of Boardwalk. Easily my 2nd favorite show behind Breaking Bad. Yes, over Mad Men, Game of Thrones, etc. As soon as the show starts i'm transported to the 1920's. It's amazing.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 08:23 AM) DirecTV simply has HBOGO as part of their on demand. But you don't have to pay 6 bucks a month to lease another receiver.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) Holy f***, why do you shop at Toys R Us? Why do people EVER pre-order games anymore, also? I've never, in the last 5 years, had any issue with getting any new game that came out. I pre-order through Amazon. They get delivered by the time I get home from work on the day of the release and they all have some kind of pre-order bonus. Usually add-ons that I don't care about that much, but sometimes you get 10 or 15 bucks in credit towards a future purchase. Either way, I get something for free and I don't have to deal with dumb 18-20 year old cashiers.
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 03:58 PM) Exactly. Regardless of whether or not it's a great case, lawsuit coming down the pipe. Hey, I can file a lawsuit saying you're ugly and it hurt me, doesn't mean it's going to go anywhere. If they sued it'd be dismissed pretty quickly on summary judgment. They might settle out for the cost of defense (25k or less) but not much more. People think we're a lawsuit happy nation, and we are, but it's not as easy to make a buck as people think.
