Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) "change" =/= accusing the fed chair of treason and implying he'd face violence if he came to Texas. Never said they were equal, just pointing out it was done for the same purpose.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Can we get someone willing to defend those remarks then? He's an orator getting his crowd amped up. You know, like when Obama promised change.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Rick Perry's statement that Ben Bernanke's actions have verged on treason is the #1 U.S. political story of the day on CNN's homepage right now. It's been reacted to by Karl Rove, who has an interest in one of the other candidates (although I'll admit I'm not sure which one). It's the top story in this race so far today. Is posting that "poisoning the well"? Posting the story no, the follow-up comment, yes.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) Are you from Minny? I'll be there for a conference in October, would love dining suggestions downtown. My buddy works up there and we always hit up http://www.gasthofzg.com/ every time we visit. This place is absolutely amazing. Incredible food, incredible atmosphere. Get either of the meat platters and a boot of beer. End the night with some snuff. Incredible place.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) The article stated that the acquisition could take months to be finalized so not sure about any new products being pushed out as a result of this news. Well no, but from my buddy who works in this area with Motorola as a client, this new deal will definitely enhance Motorola's next tablet. I'm guessing sometime this fall it'll be released to compete with Amazon's new tablet.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) Google to buy Motorola Mobility I was THIS close to buying a samsung galaxy 10.1 tablet yesterday over the motorola zoom. I think in a few months when Motorola/Google announces the Xoom 2 (or whatever it will be called) it's gonna be the best out there.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) What a waste of 20+ minutes that Entourage episode was... I'm working my way through the 6th season and I keep asking myself why I kept watching this show after the first season. Every single story line is either (1) unbelievable, even for these guys, (2) a repeat of something they've already done or (3) completely meaningless.

We don't have cable but we have Netflix and Hulu Plus. 95% of our tv needs are covered there for 1/5th the price. The problem is sports. Baseball and NBA you get the occasional WGN/WCIU/FOX games, otherwise you're stuck watching it online through some Eastern Bloc link or going to a bar.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) The Dissent is one piece of work. Yeah the connection to medicare, etc is a crap argument. If they majority was taking the point of view that health care law was in the purview of the states, then the whole thing would have been dropped, not just the part mandating coverage, which as it admits, has never been done before.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Is that the same as Rosterbating? /the league Love that show. Not sure about the addition of Seth Rogan though. We're copying The League this year by having a live draft with a game board at my buddies place downtown. We're hiring some waitresses to serve us beer and food too. It's gonna be awesome.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) "the mind of a cheater" what defines someone as a "cheater"? doing it once? does one misstep a cheater make? is it like the scarlet letter that brands you the rest of your life? no. no it was just a temporary lapse in judgment - something from which we all suffer. sure, if someone like tiger goes and cheats over and over, that comes from something much deeper - an inner insecurity, a weakness, a character flaw - and then maybe you can condemn him. but not for one bad choice. one mistake. this is a shades of grey issue I fail to see how cheating - a premeditated/calculated act - can be dismissed as just a "mistake" or "lapse in judgment" that shouldn't reflect who you are and what you stand for. If we're talking about your average joe, sure, it's not a lifetime ban on being a decent human being. But we're talking about people who run campaigns based on their decision making skills and their moral compass. I don't want any part of that in the people I elect.

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) It goes both ways. When the actual interview took place, Wilson was a dick from the start and didn't need to be. IU football is a joke to their alums and he realizes that he needs to change that perception locally. However, you can't come away as as much of a dick as a pair of radio jockeys. The coach needs to be better instead of being rude from the start. On the flip side, the radio guys were awful after they let him go. For the actual interview, Wilson was bad. Afterwards, the radio guys were worse. The IU coach needs to represent himself better than that. It's not positive at all for them. Ultimately if Wilson wants to shut everyone up, he'll make the goal at IU higher than making a bowl game. It's the worst program in the Big Ten right now and little things like this don't help (or really matter) in the long run. After the whole Sampson debacle, Indiana fans have created an "us against the world" mentality. I think this thing will just feed it. No IU fan is going to worry about the coach not being professional if he's sticking up for the program.

Hurray for civility...
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) No, that's a pretty bad attempt at excusing alpha's views of Muslims. But please feel free to flesh out this great comparison. I tend to think that you have some unreasonable fears concerning the downfall of America if the tea party (which you always tend to equate to all conservatives) take control.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) If by "become concerned" you mean adopt your position of rabid xenophobia and religious hatred based on ignorance and fear, never. So, basically your concern over the Tea Party right?

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:47 AM) I'm with you guys, awful, awful, awful job by the radio hosts. What the hell were they thinking? What bothered me most was that they immediately got offended when the coach struck back. Then they kept whining about his attitude and continued to cut him off. Then hanging up on the guy and continuing to blast him and the program? Those guys are first class idiots. I am, and will be moreso in the future, a part of the media, and it's jackasses like these two clowns who give everyone a bad reputation. Get your head out of your ass and quit feeling so entitled. Your job is to entertain and inform, sure. But it's also not about you, it's about the topics you're discussing. Good for the IU coach. I agree with this.

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
I'm an Illinois fan (and don't really care for Indiana) so i'm probably biased in the other direction. I think both sides were clearly unprofessional, but I think the radio guys had a point that look, you need as much good press as you can get since you need to bring your program up. So why come out swinging? Did it go over board? Eh. Indiana has been terrible for decades. But why would that surprise this coach? They weren't attacking the current team. They weren't attacking him personally. They were making fun of the program. You shouldn't be treated like royalty if you've never had much success. End of the day this is nothing but positive for IU though. IU fans should love that their coach doesn't take s*** from dumb radio hosts.

Hurray for civility...
QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) there's no point fighting this fight - Alpha's views are the kind of views that are just plain hurtful to decent human interaction, and do nothing to move us forward. People like him haven't learned tolerance, even though we've gone through human rights upheavals time and time again with slavery/women/blacks/gays... people just don't learn because they're still scared of what they don't understand. Alpha's one of these people. No point trying to fight him, but you can sure as hell pity him. "He doesn't agree with what I think. He's an intolerant ass!"
