  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Never thought for a second Memphis would lose. 7 minutes to go up 4 and not one part of you thought they had a chance to pull it off?
  2. anyone else having issue opening up the ncaa streaming page for the games?
  3. He's important, but I don't think his playing will stop us from winning or losing Thursday. Gonzaga might be a different story. It's pretty rough losing your best defender and probably your smartest player. He sets up the offense and handles the ball. While McCamey and Brock can do it, the team is better with Frazier for sure. If we can get out of the first weekend, I'll consider this season a whopping success.

i thought they did a pretty good job considering its based on a major story in the Bible. They didn't hit you over the head with it, but at the same time they made it important. I thought the avclub.com review guy said it best - "...it's nice to see a show that treats the existence of God as neither a joke or a moral bludgeon..."

Anyone else watch the premiere? I'll give it a B. Nothing crazy good, but nothing terrible either. An interesting premise. Also, Ian McShane is such a badass. I love that guy.
  6. this has been a pretty solid series. its a shame that the season finale is next week. hopefully it gets picked up for another season.
  7. wake is such a tough team to figure out. i think they're final four good, but they hardly ever play like it.
  8. i'm in, though i suspect picking Illinois for the final four might screw up my bracket...
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 08:48 AM) What stats? BTW, I think Arizona should be in based on their resume. Too many good wins to leave them out imo. I really don't see them beating Utah though. A couple people on TV used this line of reasoning yesterday, and I agree (this is Gary Parrish of CBS Sportsline): I think that's an incredibly important point. IMO the committee shouldn't be looking solely at the number of wins against quality opponents. I think you have to look at that number relative to the amount of people they were able to play. Otherwise the chips are stacked against a small school for simply being small. There's nothing they can do about it. And really, a team like Saint Mary's went on the road something like 13 times and won, so even when you're a small school and you beat good teams on their floor, it still doesn't guarantee you anything. But we all know at the end of the day this tournament is about money. Obviously Arizona will bring in a lot of that.
  10. That Illinois game was so awful, words don't even describe. I'd like to credit Purdue's defense, but nearly every shot they got was wide open and they just couldn't hit anything. I will credit Purdue for closing out the paint, which is the strategy to beat Illinois. And was anyone else a little puzzled at Kellogg saying Illinois is an 8 or 9 seed? Really? I thought 5 at best, 6 at worst.
  11. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) Miami cant compete with public schools when it comes to paying coaches. So that might be the only reason. I dont want Haith to go because we have a pretty good class according to ESPN coming in and I'd hate to lose any of them if Haith leaves. Unfortunately that doesn't mean much. ESPN is terrible in the recruiting rankings, especially for basketball. But I think i'd rather be at Miami than Alabama. Both are football schools, but Alabama more so.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) They know already (I heard that three days ago, and had it confirmed two days ago, so I'm sure they have heard about it too) and the seeding will reflect that. He apparently had surgery for a broken hand. Pretty amazing you heard it three days ago when it just happened Wednesday... Sucks for Frazier. I hated him so much his first three years, but he really changed my mind this year. I hope Weber uses his connections and gets this kid on a bench soon.
  13. QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) Damian Johnson > Chester Frazier As a total player yes, but not as a defender. Frazier got the job of defending the conferences best - guys like Turner, Harris, Hummell and Lucas - and shut them all down (save for Lucas in the 2nd game).
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 11, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Michigan State won the conference by a large margin while dealing with injuries to 3 of its 4 best players this season. Weber would have had a chance, but it's not like the Illini played very well the last month of the season. I agree that Dechellis should have won. I actually thought the best coaching job in the conference was done by Carmody. Those injuries were before the conference season though right? I guess I don't understand giving someone the best of the year award when you basically do what you're supposed to do. I think it should go to someone who goes above and beyond expectations. Weber, Dechellis and Carmody are all better choices IMO. I would vote for Weber only because his team is the only lock of those three to make it into the tournament.
  15. Perhaps its me being an Illinois homer, but it's ridiculous to me that Chester Frazier didn't win Defensive player of the year and that Weber didn't win Coach of the Year. I'm fine with the media choosing Dechellis, but Izzo? Come on...
  16. my prediction: Illinois continues it's dominant conference tourney record and gets to the final but loses to MSU.
  17. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) There is no criteria in which Duke is not a top 10 program this decade. No team has been to as many sweet 16s since 2000. That shows their consistency. If you want to talk about being elite, only 5 programs have been to more Final 4s (Kansas, Florida, Michigan State, UCLA, UNC). Hatred aside, Duke is a top 10 program this decade. Get over it, move on. Meh. Except for beating cupcakes and getting lofted seeding they haven't done much. I'd say they've had about 3 good years in the last decade and the rest have been more hype than substance. But that's just me.
  18. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 08:53 AM) What seed do you think they deserve this year. They are looking at a 3 seed at this point. A 4 at worst is about as low as anyone can logically go. Again I despise Duke, but finding more then 12 to 16 teams with a better resume (3 & 4 seeds) this year is not going to happen. Now, with their limitations every team they face will have a crack at taking them out early, and hopefully that happens again. I'd go with a 4 at best. 13-16 in the country sounds about right to me. Who have they beaten? I know they beat Purdue at Purdue way back in the first month of the season. A couple of wins over Florida State. Lunardi has them as a 2 right now, which is insane. Again, i'm not saying they're a bad team. But overrated in the sense that they're not going to be competing for a final four spot, as their seeding would indicate.
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I don't like Duke either, but the fact that you are saying they haven't won a title in 8 years is a bad thing shows that they are an elite program. If Northwestern had won that game, they would have had a tough case to deny if they had beaten whatever other bubble team in the first round. As it stands now, you would think a 2nd win over Michigan State in the quarterfinals would make a solid case. They might need 3, depends on how the committee views them. 6 wins against the RPI top 50 is pretty impressive, but the 8-10 conference record is gonna be tough to overcome. I never said they weren't elite, but I don't think their in the top 10 programs of the last decade. They've played second fiddle to UNC for the better part of this century. And take away their lofted seedings and I think they'd be a good but not great team.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) You can say that if you want, but what you really mean is "I hate these two teams so much because they always win and they are so much better than 99% of college basketball programs." Pssh. North Carolina yes, Duke no. Duke is completely overrated (again). When was the last championship again, 8 seasons ago? And don't give me that crap about sweet sixteens and elite eight appearances. Any good team that gets overrated seeding year in and year out would be able to do the same.
  21. Oh I agree that the Big Ten is getting better and better with talent. I guess we'll see what happens these next couple of seasons. The league will be a lot more fun to watch, that's for sure.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) It has been, but what really sucks to thinks about is that if Meacham hits the wide open 3 tonight they definitely win, and if he hits either wide open 3 on Sunday against MSU with the game tied there is a decent chance they win that one and they would actually have an outside shot at a Big 10 title right now. Or think if they didn't collapse against Clemson, @ Michigan and @ Michigan State, or if they could have just hit any shot against PSU the first time. This team could easily be about 29-2 or 28-3. The only clear beatings were @ Minnesota and @ Wisconsin. The rest can be chalked up to terrible end game play. I've been nothing but impressed with Weber's job this year. I expected to be a middle of the road big ten team. But they were in the title hunt in the last week. A title hunt against real competition (cough *Memphis* cough). The next 3-4 years are going to be one of the historic runs for the program I think. Lots of veteran talent mixed with raw talent and great coaching = multiple big ten titles and a couple of runs at the NCAA championship IMO.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Wow, finish reminded me a little of the Northwestern/Illinois game. Illinois fans have to hate it when Weber takes the air out of the ball when winning with about 5 minutes left. So many times over the last few years, they've gone ahead and lost because of it. He's a great coach, and that has to be his biggest weakness. I actually think that's the smart play on the road in the big ten. I don't think it's Weber's fault that his players allowed the smallest guy to drive the length of the court, get in the paint, and throw up a lay up to win the game.
  24. have you played The Show? It's essentially MVP with better presentation and graphics.
