You're the GM. Firesale is the plan.

Konerko to the Yankees for Delin Betances, Humberto Sanchez, and Jose Tabata Dye and McDougal to the Brewers for Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and Mat Gamel Jenks to the Reds for Johnny Cueto, Juan Francisco, Matt Maloney, and Todd Coffey Vazquez and AJ to the Mets for Deolis Guerra, Jon Niese, Anderson Hernandez and Mike Carp Buerhle and Thome to the Mariners for Adam Jones, Jeff Clement, and Carlos Trifunel Let Cabrera walk at the end of the year for draft picks C Clement/Hall 1B Fields 2B Uribe SS Cabrera 3B Crede RF A Jones CF B Anderson/Owens LF Sweeney SP Conteras SP Danks SP Floyd SP Broadway SP Sanchez RP Coffey RP Masset RP Aardsma RP Logan RP Thornton RP Haeger RP Vasquez This team would be lucky to win 75 games, but the farm system would be replenished and the picks that we get from being bad will help to further fill the system. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) Uhh, Fowler's in the Rockies system. And he was quite mediocre in A+ last year as a 21 year old. The absolute most I would give up for him would be MacDougal, and that would be if he graded out well according to the Sox scouts. I think you're friend sent you up a creek with no paddle. At this point I think that we will be best served throwing BA out there. There is nothing out there that is worth what it will cost to acquire them. If we get to the season and this team is just one piece short of contending then we can make a move, but at this point it makes no sense to further deplete what is left of our farm system for the junk that is available.

I still think you hold on to Crede and Fields and move whichever of Thome or Konerko that you can and shift Fields to 1B. Then you can deal Crede in the summer after he has an opportunity to establish himself.
-
Who would you rather have as a bench player ?
harfman77 replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ozuna is cheaper and has shown flexibility to fill in at many positions. -
Since Hunter is gone now, I would prefer just to go into the season with Owens and try to find something else in ST. Crisp is just too inconsistent. It seems the only time that he can hit well is agains the Sox. Jones would be my second choice, he is young, might sign a short deal, and has above average speed, plus power and is an above average defensive player. Rowand isnt worth what he is asking and would put the Sox in a bad position down the road with a long term contract.
-
QUOTE(max power @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:43 AM) Rotoworld has us basically giving crede away for trash. Erick Threets/Trevor Plouffe-Dear God what is wrong with your names? Edgar Martinez- I can't tell if this guy is a Pitcher or a Catcher. (lol) I'm not expecting much at this point. If KW trades Crede to the Twins he needs to be canned ASAP. There is no value in trading Crede at this point. The better move would be to trade Paulie and move Fields over to first.
-
Just sign Lofton for LF, he is better in every aspect of the game than Pierre. He is older but has kept fairly consistent. A two year deal for Lofton would make sense, especially since you have to give up nothing to get him and you use the pieces to acquire other things, like a 2B or a bullpen.
-
I think at this point a deal of Uribe for Dukes plus some very low level prospect would make sense for both sides. The Rays want no part of Dukes anymore and a change of scenery could be very beneficial to him. He would be a good candidate for LF/CF depending on what happens the rest of the offseason. We could get him to play CF and sign Lofton to play LF and lead off.
-
Once we get our CF be it Hunter, Fukodome, Jones, or whatever the next rumor is, I wouldn't mind signing Lofton to play left for next year. He is still very solid offensively and would give us a lead off man. Defensively he has slipped so he shouldnt be an option in CF anymore. Theres always the possibilty that a trade for Furcal and Pierre (not preferable) gets made as well as soon as the Dodgers sign Rowand.
-
Florida may non tender Olivo. He would be an upgrade over Hall from this year.
-
If we were to add Cabrera and Hunter in all likelihood that means we have to cut some salary elsewhere. Garland would be a start, but would only be about half of what we need to dump. That would indicate that Konerko would be a candidate to get moved. A possibility would be Arizona because they want to upgrade their output at 1B, the Sox could get something back like Pena, Jackson, and B prospect. They could expand the trade to include Garland and Hudson, but would probably have to add cash.
-
I would make the trade in the article in a heartbeat. Then look at maybe trying to move Konerko and Crede to the Angels for a package including Kendry Morales and Erick Aybar and some low level pitchers. Aybar plays MI well, runs well and will be a good top of the order guy. The money you give up getting Cabrera, you save dealing Paulie. I think you can go get someone like Corey Patterson to play CF or give BA another shot to produce in the nine hole.
-
I think a deal of Garland and Aardsma for Baker, Herrera, and Koshansky would be nice. Baker can play both corner OF positions, 3B, and 1B. Koshansky could play LF next season, but would be a backup option in case we get an unbelievable offer for Konerko or more likely Thome (and waives his no trade). He could be our long term answer at 1B/Dh after Thome walks a year from now. Herrera is blocked by Tulo and looks like he could be a good player at SS. All of these guys are blocked and none of them are super prospects at this point, but could be solid players for years for the Sox.

I say we lay claims on anyone with value that is put on waivers.

QUOTE(Dogfood22 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) You have a really cool avatar, too. I don't know what the Sox are thinking lately. Mackowiak, yeah, makes over 3 mil, but you can afford to pay a very good UT guy that kind of money. One player on your bench making that much money is justifiable because over the course of a season I think he more than earns that. What I can't understand though is playing and paying Pods and Erstad, who can't help us now or in the future in any capacity. At worst, Mack doesn't hurt us. Pods and Grinder Machine do, because their simple presence only adds more question marks to the 2008 OF and the organization's future as a whole. Even if Sweeney is brought up and sucks bad the rest of the year, at least we know we definitely have to address one more area of the OF. As it is, I could see the Sox going into 2008 thinking Sweeney is probably ready much the same way they went into 2006 thinking Anderson was probably ready. Nether Pods nor Erstad are going to bring us anything of value in a trade, and even if they bring some A ball spect with some little bit of potential, I'd gladly trade that for X amount of extra AB's for Ryan. Maybe we should give Thome and Konerko the rest of the year off and play Erstad at first and Pods as DH and play an OK of Sweeney, Owens and Terrero the rest of the year.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Nate Silvers take from cheats blog. I would agree if I didnt blame JR equally as much for the state of the Sox.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) as for dealing vaz or garland, i still think one is probably gone in the offseason. to me, trading either today versus in the offseason makes no difference. I disagree, with teams that feel they are still in a pennant race, they may be inclined to give up more now than they will when starting from scratch in the offseason. I think there were too many teams that needed starting pitching not to get a deal done. Dye can still be traded once he passes through waivers, but I am not sure that Garland or Vazquez will make it through. I am disappointed that a starter wasnt dealt, I think a package in between what Texas got for Gagne and Texeira in return for Garland. My hope is that there is a deal on Seligs desk that is waiting for approval before being announced.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Good lord. Williams is just giving players away now. What in the hell is the point of this trade? Maybe now they dont have to waive Terrero? Thats the only logic I can see from KW's POV.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) probably to announce his extension....dammit KW. Maybe blockbuster to D-backs with Garland for Quentin and spects? Halfway kidding but it would make sense to both sides with Randy Johnson out for the year.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) And as of 2 years ago, Bobby didn't have experience closing either so I don't see your point. The point would be at this point he is more of a known commodity and has displayed the ability to close out games something that Bell hasnt done yet. Bobby is proven, Heath is not.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Heath Bell is his replacement.. I know he is Linebrinks replacement, I am not sure if they envision him as the closer or their long term set up man. Bobby has experience closing something Bell doesnt have.

QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) It would also waive 8mil in a 4th place team. But, his NTC stops that. I am all for moving Thome to anywhere...Just don't see him waicing his NTC in order to do it, that team would have to be a huge fav to win it all if he did. Huge favorite or having any chance at all? I think that if he felt he had a chance to make the post season he would consider waiving his NTC. I think he realizes he will not be in the playoffs for the duration of his contract in Chicago and that would not necessarily be the case in those three citites.

If we do acquire WMP for Dye today, what does our OF look like tomorrow? Pods, Owens, Terrero ? or do we play WMP in CF or maybe even RF? Obviously he would be best suited for LF but I dont think Ozzie will play him over Podsednik. I think that WMP poses the biggest threat to Owens at this point.
