Interesting that of his 87 hits this season 43 went for extra bases. Was 17-21 on SB attempts. 87H 24 2B 6 3B and 13 HR.

I dont like this move at all. The kid needs some more time on the farm, this is a panic move that could really hinder Andersons development. You can't really be surprised that you need a SS when you let your guy walk away and went dumpster diving for a replacement. Just not sure how the Sox were expecting more from the SS position than what they have gotten when they ignored it over the offseason. I would rather have used Sanchez and Saladino at SS for the time being and give Anderson at least another month at AAA.

His replacement was one of his employees that had worked for him the past 8 years. Since Hahn has been GM, they have been able to go outside the org for coaching hires, McEwing, Parent, Renteria, Steverson, but the upper level roles in the org seem to churn incestually which is why we don't see a lot of change in the approach to player development and scouting which leads to the GM having to constantly go outside the org to patch the ship. I really think Hahn could do a great job if unencumbered, but I think the good ole boy network that JR has set up makes him run the team with one arm tied behind his back.

This trade is doing something for the sake of doing something. Shields experience can help the younger guys in the rotation but he isn't likely to fare much better than Gonzales or Latos have. He is supposedly a really good clubhouse guy which is a plus. The Sox gave up nothing but some salary flexibility in this trade. But I don't really believe it did much to help this team win either.
