  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) Gallo has so much more potential than Davidson it's not even funny. Davidson was the same player at the same age. Both have tremendous power and both K way too much to make that power of value.
  2. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) where did Heyman say that? I think it was Morosi you meant Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 21m21 minutes ago Sources who have spoken with #Nats believe they would trade Lucas Giolito to #Yankees for Andrew Miller, straight up. That would certainly get the Yankees in the conversation for Sale. Giolito, Torres, Sanchez, Andujar, and Acevedo is on par with a lot of the other prospect packages that have been bandied about.
  3. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) Gallo just swung through 3 curveballs...so that was bad No interest in Gallo, we already have a guy with that skill set in Matt Davidson.
  4. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) Is Naylor a good get for Cashner? If so, why didn't we win out on that deal. Because Cashner and Rea >>>> Gonzalez.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Strongly agree with you two. Mazara/Profar/Gallo/Tate etc. does not excite me nearly as much as Moncada/Benintendi/Kopech etc. does. Moncada/Benitendi has a much of chance to happen as Odor/Mazara.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) And Nick Carfardo is actually a respected writer. Smh. How some of these dudes get these jobs is beyond me. I think his take is a lot more realistic than what has been proposed here. You are going to have to get at least one pitcher back in a deal, Rodriguez and Owens are the most likely given their talent level and proximity to the majors. Kopech is a big risk given his meth use and off the field antics.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Then anyone who, if Sale and Quintana are still White Sox after the deadline, who are going to be upset about it, shouldn't use the "well then you can't have Chris Sale" line. You should subscribe to the "they must be traded, just get what you can" team. It's funny someone would say I am defending the front office. I don't like KW, haven't for years, even when he was popular. I've questioned Hahn as much as anyone, and all the way down. What the Yankees got for Chapman or the Braves got for Miller really doesn't mean any team's offer for Sale is going to be based on that. The fewer the teams that can afford the package to acquire Sale, the less competition, and most likely the less bang for your buck for the seller. Sale can be 10 times the pitcher Shelby Miller is. He won't get you 10 times the package Atlanta got for him. I used a house as an example. If you built a $100 million house and in 5 years all the homes in your neighborhood doubled in value, chances are, if you sold, you wouldn't get anything near $200 million. The buyers are too limited. There are only a few teams that could meet what the Sox and the rest of us would want for Chris Sale. That will make it really tough to trade him before you almost have to. The Sox have a $100 million house they would sell for $150 million. They just need a Saudi prince or someone who has to have Sale no matter the cost. As opposed to a house though, this $100M house is going to depreciate to zero in three years.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Welcome to rebuilding. If they start a rebuild, expect them to be god awful next year. I could care less if they are god awful next year, they have been god awful since mid-May. At least this way there is a light at the end of the tunnel where they may have some pieces to contend at some point. The Sox as they stand are going to continue to be perpetually a middle of the road team.
  9. I think the ship has sailed on a Sale trade if he makes it to his start tomorrow. The Sox mini-streak has no doubt lessened the FO's resolve to be sellers as they get distracted very easily. Its going to be very difficult for any GM to justify what he would have to give up to get Sale making it an incredibly tough move from a PR perspective. A Sale trade has been compared to the Herschel Walker trade, and no one wants to be on the wrong side of that deal. Feels like a lot of the momentum has slowed, though it feels like that all across the market for SP's.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) I'm pretty sure you can't trade guys on the 60-day DL I guess that would remove the possibility of the Sox getting Swihart in a deal for Sale.
  11. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) May as well trade them now so another team could have them contribute for 1.5 years and then receive a draft pick if they leave. There is no guarantee that there will be a such thing as draft pick compensation 1.5 years from now. And if there is, who knows what you will have to offer a player to qualify for it. Do you really want to risk offering Melky a $20M deal to try and get draft pick compensation? Let them bring back some value to the Sox now who can bring in prospects that can help them in the next two years rather than waiting in the thin chance at getting a draft pick back in return for them going elsewhere.
  12. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) I don't want the #1 prospect from four years ago. I want the #1 prospect today. OK. You realize that Moncada is not a sure thing either though, right? Profar is starting to live up to the hype that made him the #1 prospect, is still only 23, and is a major league ready player. Pulling him and Mazara both would give you two guaranteed ML level players. Moncada is just as likely to struggle when he gets to the majors as Profar was and you may be able to get Moncada for Profar at some point when he starts to struggle. Profar was already in majors by the time he was Moncadas age and put up better numbers in AA when he was two years younger.
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) He has the exact same years remaining as Sale and hasn't broke out yet. If he had already broken out, then it would make more sense. But right now he's far from a sure thing and you can't afford to be patient with him given his years remaining. Not sure how trading Sale or Quintana for him would be buying low either. If had broken out, you are looking at a Betts type of player that would be considered a candidate for a one for one trade with Sale. Getting him in a package with other prospects protects you against him possibly never reaching that potential. It is the same thing as when several people here wanted the Sox to acquire JBJ when he was struggling because if he ever turned it around you would have a perennial all-star type player at a premium position that you acquired at less than peak value.
  14. The really good thing about the market is that everyone is asking for a lot, so if GM's already feel like they are going to have to give up a lot for a guy they like, they may be more inclined to pay a premium for a guy they love.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) Can someone with insider access please summarize the Bowden suggested trades please? The link is referred above but here it is again: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-of...r/post?id=12715 Bowden Red Sox - Sale for Moncada, Kopech, Swihart and Rodriguez. Rangers - Sale for Mazara, Profar or Gallo, Tate and Ortiz Nationals - Sale for Joe Ross, Trea Turner, Fedde or Lopez, and Glover Cubs - Sale for Schwarber, Hendricks, Happ and Candelario Dodgers - Sale for Urias, De Leon and Puig ME Red Sox - Sale for Moncada, Benitedi, Swihart, Owens and Rodriguez. Rangers - Sale for Mazara, Profar, Gallo, Tate and Ortiz Nationals - Sale for Joe Ross, Trea Turner, Fedde, Lopez, and Glover Cubs - Sale for Schwarber, Baez, Hendricks, Happ and Candelario Dodgers - Sale for Urias, De Leon, Verdugo, Montas and Puig
  16. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) I would happily let him leave if another team was taking on his contract, so getting any prospects back for him would be a bonus. His contract is NOT bad. The Sox have him at about $9M/year.
  17. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Some of these suggestions are ridiculous. If Robertson was somehow made a free agent now, what would his contract be? Probably a little more than it is right now. Probably would look at a deal of 2/$29 given the current market.
  18. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) Profar can be a FA in 2020, so I don't see any appeal there. Thats four years from now. IF he continues his current trajectory you can spin him for more prospects in that time. The guy was what Moncada is now, the #1 prospect in baseball, a switch hitting 19 year old middle IF with 5 tool potential (except much better defensively) - though with injuries setting him back the last couple of seasons he has been delayed in his development. He is shaking the rust off and now would be a good time to try and buy low and hope he takes off.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) Well, Melky, Lawrie and Frazier are all FA after next year, so really 2017 would be the year to blow it up versus this year. If you can't extract any surplus trade value out of the additional year of Sale and/or Q, you hold onto them and go to battle again in 2017 (2016 isn't completely lost either), not just trade them for s***s and giggles. Look, I'm not in charge. I would be fine with the Sox tearing this thing down, because I realize this team has no minor league positional player talent. But you don't force these types of things. The Sox have literally the top 2 trade assets that are theoretically available in all of baseball - if traded, it needs to be no brainer. Why let Melky, Frazier, Robertson, and Lawrie walk away for nothing when you can move them now and get something that can provide future value to the franchise.
  20. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) I agree. A rebuild doesn't need to be a total teardown. If you can get someone to get desperate and overpay for Sale or Q, then you could potentially speed up the rebuild by a couple seasons and eliminate the need to sell off EVERYBODY (instead of 2020 you could look towards 2018). But that means we absolutely need to nail this trade. I think if you are going to rebuild though, anyone that isn't under contract after 2017 needs to be moved if you can find a deal for them. Fill in for them with AAA players for the time being and let the guys that you trade for come in and earn those spots.
  21. Robertson for Pedro Severino, Andrew Stevenson, and Taylor Hearn would get it done for me. Severino can step in as your everyday C next season, Stevenson has the floor of a fourth OF with an upside of GG LF, and Hearn is a live arm hitting 99 as a LHP that starts now but could be an effective LHRP.
  22. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) Realistically what kind of return would he fetch even with the pitching market sky high right now? I just don't see it being worth it unless Ranaudo or Fulmer can step in right now. Bring on Volstad and Turner, keep Fulmer in the pen to keep his innings down and let him work on things in game situations more often. If you are dumping anybody out of the rotation it means you are not competing anyway.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/cent...nez-antony.html I read that earlier, Bowdens proposed packages were insufficient to what I consider fair value in the market. I really like the idea of a trade with the Dodgers at this point. Keeps Sale out of the AL and more likely to provide a group of prospects that fit.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) Collins, Engel, Michalzewski, and Sanchez None of these are sure things, Engel will be a thrill if he makes it to the big leagues as a starter, let alone impact starter we would not look for improvement on. Sanchez is maybe a backup. Trey is still so young and far to count on for 2018, and Collins we are hoping to be a catcher. If that is your hope it just proves we really really need to change directions. That group there is likely putting us at bottom 5 as a core. I think Sanchez is a quality everyday player. Not a star, but a guy like Joey Cora who plays a really good second base and can get on base. I am not sold that Collins will stick as a catcher, if he hits the way most of us think he will, they are not going to be patient enough to wait on his defense to come around. No, none of them are sure things, but they are what we have. Thats why making a deal shipping out Sale could really help the franchise fill in these potential gaps. The Sox need to work on stacking the farm system so they can start growing the pipeline like Boston, Texas, and the Cubs have done.
  25. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) What if we sweep the cubs and the twins and are sitting 5 over .500 come Sunday. Think we gotta stay put... Only need to go 37-25 the rest of the way to hit that 87 mark. Not entirely crazy... Sox are behind six teams for the last wild card spot. Two of those teams, Houston (Bregman, Gurriel) and Boston (Pomeranz, deadline DD move), are improving their rosters for the stretch run. According to mlb.coms post season projections, the Sox have a 5% chance of making the postseason. The Sox have about 75% of their remaining schedule against Central opponents which they are 16-21 against. Sure, if the Sox go on an A's style winning streak they could compete, but they need to get the franchise into a place where they can compete for the division every season.
