Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
harfman77 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) I honestly don't believe that to be true. You can't trade Turner if you're the Nats. You just cannot trade him. Which means that it would have to be a three team deal. Its going to be nearly impossible to sell a Turner trade to that fanbase, and their rotation is pretty full as it is, so it would make sense that the Nats would move a starter to get some more prospects to add to the deal. As it stands, the Nats don't have enough high end talent to pull in both Eaton in Q in a single deal without including Turner. I think this is all smoke screen anyway to gauge interest from other teams, I don't really see Q as a fit for the Nats and Eaton would be wasted in LF there. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) A strong half by Abreu could make him one of the most valuable bats at the deadline He can play crappy defense at 1B or DH for an American league team Am I nuts, or do the Rangers appear to be in serious need of a 1B/DH? Why wouldn't they be interested in Abreu? (Side note...wow that Shin Soo Choo signing has backfired on the Rangers) Yeah, it is going to take a while to play out though. EE and Napoli are still out there as is Bautista, so the market won't really take shape until those guys find a home. Once that happens, the market for Abreu will take shape and the contracts those guys receive will further clarify Abreus value. -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) I don't want Reed headlining a deal, but he's very interesting to me. Martes, Tucker, Reed, Stubbs is what I had tweeted earlier. Reed is interesting as a buy low guy, especially if Abreu is going to be moved. The Sox have the chance to be patient with him through a rebuild where the Astros don't since they are trying to win now. Reed was marginally better than Rizzo was during his MLB debut, though he is two years older. -
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Frazier for Calhoun and Buehler. Would the Dodgers take it? I'd be happy with Barnes and Lux, that is probably to steep still.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) We can say two all stars all we want but a lot of Eaton's value was due to RF defense. I have a hard time saying Q + Eaton make the NATIONALS* that much better considering they'd be losing a possibly better CFer in Turner and already have such a dominant rotation. And so then if we get back Robles/Lopez and 3-4 more would we be happy? I don't know. But do sox think nats prospects are superior to other "higher" returns? If they feel that way then maybe do it. I wanted us to target players we thought would be the stars, not just deal templates that say what fair value is. Its likely that Turner stays in CF and they would place Eaton in LF. They are talking about doing the same thing with McCutchen. -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Huh? Eaton is BETTER than Heyward right now. Eaton had nearly identical offense seasons in 2015 and 2016, the difference in 3.7 WAR and 6.0 WAR was moving to RF. So had Eaton moved to RF a year sooner, it's entirely plausible that Eaton would be having back to back 6 WAR seasons. Yeah, I agree, Eaton is what Heyward becomes if he reaches his potential. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) At first I thought this was referring to Greg Holland, I was very confused. Derek Holland would be a great signing, you need someone to start, and if he does well, flip him at the deadline. Guys like Holland, Jarrod Parker, and Tyson Ross on short term deals can be mutually beneficial for them to rebuild their value for FA next season and the Sox get a lottery ticket that they could cash in on July 31st.

QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) I think the next domino to fall is Jansen. If he goes to the Marlins then the relief market gets very bare. I think the Dodgers will stay away from Chapman as a bidding war would be costly. Robertson becomes a very interesting play here as well. I still think the Dodgers trade De Leon with the Hill signing. They have plenty of depth in the rotation. If they could get a package back that has Frazier+Robertson= De Leon+ Lux+ Smith. I think you are in the ballpark. I think Chapman to the Yankees is all but done. He is out shopping for a deal and then will take it to the Yankees and they will match it.

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) This is ridiculous. Its going to be a long rebuild process. Go get the most talented prospects, period. If Yankees won't give up Torres or Frazier, Rutherford is the next best thing, IMO. The dude is going to rake. Here's Sickels' Yankees prospect list that just dropped: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/6/1...spects-for-2017 Or Rutherford is this years Courtney Hawkins. I am not trading all star caliber players for HS guys with less than a full season under their belt. Sure if they give up Torres, I would take Rutehrford as a secondary piece as long as their is something like Acevedo and Torrens in the deal as well. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:10 PM) Gross. Horrible pitcher framer too. Meh...pitching framing isn't going to matter in a couple years when they are using robo-umps.

I really want no HS kid drafted this year as a major part of any deal the Sox work out. If you add them in as a throw in, thats fine. Lets get them a track record in pro ball and make sure their abilities match their high school mix tapes before rolling the dice. High draft picks, especially HS draft picks have a ridiculous bust rate. So as much as I would have liked someone like Rogers, Pint, Perez, or Rutherford in the draft, I want no part of them right now unless it is as a throw in. -

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) So we're going to move a 23yr old guy with 5 years of control & massive upside for someone else with 5/6 years of control? This makes little sense to me, especially since I don't see anyone overpaying for Rodon right now. Hahn just mentioned Anderson and Rodon yesterday as two players to be building around. I'm not saying it makes a ton of sense, just that its been hinted about in different places. There was something put out a while back that said everyone is on the table including Rodon. So when they called him out specifically and Rick has been puffing him up as TOR starter even in his PC yesterday, that there is some chance. It also could be that I am reading too much into what they have said too... -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Wow what position is he expected to play? Yeah, thats kind of a wtf signing. The Rockies OF is already full with Cargo, Blackmon, and Dahl, plus Parra and their IF is full outside of 1B. Sets the Rockies up to trade some OF's for pitching.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) Hahn on MLB Network talked about Kopech being part of the front of the rotation with Rodon someday. No mention of Q. It's going to happen, just a matter of when. You would think they established names available with Sale, so they can get a deal done sooner than later. I would not be shocked if Rodon gets moved. There have been little hints about it in the past, even yesterday when RH was talking about Sale he said he has "others" that fit the description of front line pitchers that teams can plug into playoff rotations. I know that Rodon seems like the kind of asset you hang on to, but given his agent and his performance in the second half, I could see the Sox moving him to try to build a core at the lower levels. Kopech is likely two years away as is Hansen, Burdi would be too if they decide to make him a starter. If they get the right deal for him, I think Rodon could get moved soon as well. -

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) Boston just traded Shaw to Milwaukee for relief help. Not sure if that makes Moncada less likely to be traded. I doubt it has any impact, they still have Holt, Panda, and Hanley to play three spots (3B, 1B, and DH) plus they are in on EE. The OF is full with Benitendi, JBJ, and Betts, so Moncada doesn't really have a roster spot, even if they find a taker for Panda. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:50 PM) Doesn't appear W. Sox are in Trade Q mode. I think it is important that a Sale trade get done soon to get other deals moving. Eaton, Abreu, and Q could still be moved this week, but I think the FO is going to need to take it one deal at a time to avoid getting stuck in the middle of a bunch of negotiations without the ability to see any of them through. I think Robertson, Jones, Cabrera, and Frazier can be dealt later this winter or during the season and that would probably help maximize their value. -

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Nats don't have enough to get Sale + Eaton or Sale + McCutcheon Best case is they significantly raise his price for the Red Sox McCutchen's value is way down, he performed pretty close to his contract last season and only has two years of control left. I think the Nats could easily make a deal for Sale and then make a play for McCutchen with what is left over, and more than likely without giving Turner up in either deal. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) Carter available really undercuts Morneaus market. Wonder if we roll with Avi or sign one of these guys. Carter would be a decent pickup for this team if they are rebuilding, sign him on a short term deal and flip for a prospect at the deadline for a team that needs some RH power.

The CBA is done - formerly the CBA is not done thread

If the owners gave up the International Draft, that probably puts the QO system back into play as it has been reported that the owners were willing to give that up in exchange for the draft. I can't see the owners giving up on both and getting nothing back. It seems dumb for the players to fight an international draft, as it helps keep money from going to players that will never make the majors and allows teams to invest that money in MLB players. Plus it helps clean up a lot of the corruption that happens with the buscados and the human traffickers that have brought Cuban players into the country. I would guess the players also want the luxury tax bumped or removed and instill penalties for teams that do not meet a minimum salary. Season length, roster size seem like issues that both sides should be able to move on quickly. I do wonder if one side if holding out for a league-wide DH as was speculated about a year ago. One issue that I could see being a big wedge for the players is the pay of MiLB players, I could see them holding out to get a significant increase there as it affects almost 100% of their membership at some time or another. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) I would think that Will Lamb, Nick Delmonico, Adam Engel, Jacob May, and Brad Goldberg will all be added to the 40 man. Like it was mentioned, Matt Purke, Brandon Brennan, and Minaya could possibly be outrighted to Charlotte. Avisail Garcia and Brett Lawrie are non-tender candidates. Alfredo Gonzalez is a moveable option as well. I can see them outrighting Kevan Smith, Liriano, Leury Garcia, and Brennan. They would probably add Engel, May, Lamb, and leave some open slots for the draft. If they are rebuilding, there may be some options in the rule V draft for the bullpen, depth at C and the OF.

Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 05:27 PM) I agree with you, but you can't teach Gallo's power. He puts up Todd Frazier numbers, I would be completely fine with. Yes, but the same was said about Matt Davidson, Mike Olt, and Brandon Wood. A ton of power, not enough contact to ever make it matter. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) Urias, Bellinger, Verdugo, Lux, Alvarez, and Puig should do it. People, you have to factor in that LA could/will probably offer Frazier a QO after the season too. That alone draws value as well. There may be no QO after the season though, so that diminishes that value.
