  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Not a fan of that deal and I feel other teams could beat that offer I'm not saying those prospects aren't good, but Quintana is more valuable than a depth package like that It's also the wrong type of package, as it's primarily pitching as the return when we needs bats I don't love any of the Cardinals position player prospects enough to build a deal around that Any Q deal would have to start with Reyes + two more good prospects like Bader and Perez Reyes isn't happening, he is on the same line with Bregman and Turner as guys that have roles on the ML roster of teams trying to compete.
  2. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) One of the guys over at Viva El Birdos cooked up a trade proposal for the Cards to end up with Q. Luke Weaver, Magneuris Sierra, Austin Gomber, Connor Jones, and Lance Lynn for Q. http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/2017/1/30/1442...-trade-proposal Thats a garbage proposal, its taking all your spare parts and trying to turn them into one of the best pitchers in baseball. They are trying to compose a trade without causing any real disruption in their talent pipeline, the problem for them is, acquiring someone like Q fundamentally requires some level of disruption. Sierra, Perez, Flaherty are the base of any deal for me involving Q and the Cards. There would have to be a couple more pieces as well, but those are a lot more negoitiable. It also postulates that the Cards can dump Lynn into the trade because he has no value to them this season and is coming off TJS and is headed to FA. Not sure why that would have any value to the Sox.
  3. I think if Atlanta finds themselves in contention this summer, Frazier gets traded there. They have nothing at the position and have a lot of pieces that could click together to allow them to in the thick of their division race.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) If Reyes isn't the headliner, I am not sure that a St Louis offer would beat what about half a dozen other teams could offer to top that. I think they could definitely put a package together that the Sox would consider, it would obviously be more about depth than headliners, but they have a pretty good mix of prospects with proximity and ceiling. Flaherty/Perez/Sierra/Kelly/Arozarena would be a sizable haul, though without a top 10 prospect overall. However, Flaherty, Perez, and Azorarena all have the potential to be top ten guys a year from now. Kelly is as close to an everyday MLB catcher as is out there, and Sierra is a toolsy OF in the mold of Basabe.
  5. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Does it look like they are trading everyone still? Also it was more like a month ago that I said that. If they do still unload everyone I'll go back to thinking they could have a high 2018 draft pick, but right now this is probably a 75+ win team. There is a little more than three months before a game that counts will be played, plenty of time for additional roster movement. I am not sure the Sox are a 75 win team with an OF of Cabrera/Tilson/Liriano. Plus given the sophomore struggles that Anderson and Saladino will inevitably face, the offense is going to be pretty sad. This is not a bad enough team to get the #1 pick, the Padres are going to have that, but anywhere from 3-6 right now with the roster as it stands.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) I think the Soxfest surprise was more apt when it was a positive thing, versus the loss of another player. Its all in the spin. They can say "we just added another four players to our young core including two top 25 prospects", that would be a pretty positive take away for most fans.
  7. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) SoxFest would be a pretty silly deadline. The teams we're negotiating with don't give a crap about SoxFest. For all we know, the deal is done and they are waiting until right before SoxFest to announce to build some buzz and distract from questions about how terrible they are going to be this season.
  8. Jose Abreu. Without the pressure of trying to carry the offense for a competing team he can stop pressing and relax and let the game come to him. He regresses to his rookie season and builds his value.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) You guys are telling me you'd turn down Glasnow, Newman, Keller, Hayes and Diaz? You add two Top 100 arms, two Top 100 (depending on who is ranking) bats and a projectable catcher? Glasnow ranks above Giolito and Kopech right now, Keller is rising fast and Hayes is a Top 10 3B prospect. If Glasnow, Newman, Keller, Hayes, Diaz is on the table, take it and flip Jones/Glasnow for a bat like Frazier or Robles + a flier. And it's Rick Hahn, who loves three way deals. I would take that deal. Depending on who is doing the evaluation, Glasnow's stock has taken quite a bit of a hit as he has not been able to develop command of the strike zone. Giolito has the same concerns which caused him to slip from being the #1 pitching prospect in baseball. Keller has #2 or three upside and has just started blowing up a lot safer bet than Glasnow to make it as a starter. Hayes is an upside guy that can fit into the window with the young offensive core, Newman can be insurance against some of the other middle IF's busting and give the Sox some flexibility. Diaz could be a place holder at C for a few years, as a 26 year old rookie, there isn't a lot of upside. He can bring some stability to the position and at least be the backup C on the next Sox playoff team.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/213958338/20...picid=151437456 It's hindsight for sure but I wish the Sox took Ian Happ instead of Fulmer. Nah. I still like Fulmer more. Fulmer still has middle of the rotation upside or could provide a lot of value as a high leverage relieiver. Happ profiles right now as a UTL off the bench.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Reed hit well in AAA before his callup and was the top 1B prospect going into the 2016 season. I see no reason to be down on a 23 year old with roughly 150 major league atbats. Plenty of players struggle when they move up. Just my opinion but I think Reed would benefit playing on the rebuilding White Sox since there's no pressure to contend. I have a lot of interest in Reed as a buy low candidate in a Q package. I think he still has a chance to be at least an everyday guy with the All-Star upside. Martes - Tucker - Reed - Laureano would be the package I would shoot for, three close to MLB pieces with at least second division starter floors and a high upside guy in Tucker. It doesn't touch the Astros roster this year or affect their ability to compete over the next couple seasons and gives the Sox another good arm to add to the death star.
  12. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Why? Kyle Tucker's trajectory right now is the moon. Low K's, high BB, big frame that can easily fill out for big power, athletic corner OF...what dont you like? The risk? The fact that he's not high enough ranked on lists? And why would he be the only position player? You think the Astros are like "OK you only get ONE position player prospect that's IT" I dont think so. The dude has 0 AB's above A ball, the list of players that put up great number in A ball and below and never made it as an everyday player in the majors. Lets not get too carried away by a guy is on the same path as his brother who is looking a lot like a AAAA player. Sure he isn't his brother, he could end up being much better or could end up on the same path.
  13. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) What's wrong with Kyle Tucker? Hes a decent second or third piece, but his distance from the majors affects his value. There are definitely the pieces in Houstons system to make a deal, but they are going to have to give up a lot of quantity to make a deal if they are trying to use him as the headliner.
  14. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) A Rodgers + Dahl package would have the White Sox listening very closely I don't see the Rockies offering that much, but Rodgers + Dahl + lottery arm would be a great trade From all I have seen, its been noted that the Rockies have very little interest in Q because they don't think that his pitching style will play well in their stadium. They had concerns about how the altitude would lessen the break of his curve ball and that he doesn't strike enough guys out to fit what works there.
  15. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) If they were going to try and convert him to a starter I think it would have been announced by now. But I could be wrong, of course. That will probably come out in spring training, perhaps at Sox Fest at the earliest.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) Somewhat related to this thread, but when do you guys expect Burdi to be in Chicago? With them taking a step back from competing, it is entirely plausible that they start him in A ball this year as a starter and see if they can make it work. He would move quickly as a RP, but with really no need for him at the ML level this season, they could really take their time and give him a shot. It is entirely possible that after a year they decide it just isn't going to work, but it will give him a chance to build some endurance as well as secondary pitches that could make him into a RP in the mold of Andrew Miller.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) That doesnt equate to the comment above. That's part of the overall discussion we are having. Personally and I have no proof of this but I bet Hahn is asking for a ridiculous return for Q. I think it's going to backfire if he's not traded by the start of the season. I am sure he is asking for a ridiculous return for Q, just as he did for Eaton and Sale, but that is the price the market has set. The hauls the Yankees received this summer, even the Hamels trade from a year ago have all driven the market to its current condition. If Hahn gives someone a discount on the current market price he is hurting the Sox long term. The market is too strapped for cost controlled quality pitching for Q's value to diminish in the next six months. If anything holding Q until the trade deadline may serve to increase the market for Q as other pitchers go down with injury or teams find themselves in contention when they did not expect to be. The Astros and Pirates face the risk of other suitors jumping into the mix and driving the price higher if they are unwilling to meet the price now. Sure, there is a risk of Q getting injured and reducing his value, but given his mechanics and pitching style the risk is low. Short of that, his trade value is not going down. Yes he will have less control, but is contract will be an even better deal relative to the open market.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) There will be A and AA players that take significant steps forward in the next 6 months. And quite a few of these top prospects will take steps back that will diminish their value as well.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) http://sportsmockery.com/2017/01/mlb-insid...uintana-trades/ Breakdown of suggested deals Astros = Martes + Tucker + Paulino Pirates = Bell + Keller + Newman/Tucker Yankees = Mateo + Judge + Rutherford + Tate Rockies = Dahl + Rodgers Thoughts guys? I know sports mockery is usually trash, but this is from a former GM Astros - No thanks, too many injury questions around Paulino. Pirates - thats workable but would need another projectable arm like Hearn Yankees - Not even close - Judge is going to be a bad MLB player, Mateo and Tate both took big steps back, and Rutherford has no AB's outside of rookie ball Rockies - Really good start, but need a little more quantity to mitigate the bust likelihood for Rogers, throw in a couple low level lottery ticket arms
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Why would st Louis blow up it's farm when reyes is essentially mlb ready right now? The dbacks have an awful farm. Why trade starting pitching for starting pitching in the majors? Because they don't have time for those three young SP's to develop with their current core, Greinke isn't long for Arizona and with Pollock back their offense is good enough to compete. Greinke,Q, Corbin, Ray, Miller stabilizes their rotation and gives them a chance to contend before they lose Greinke and Goldy.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) You mean the Cards, right? Yes, my bad. Good catch.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) Depends on when he comes over. He may wait it out until he isn't a restricted free agent and when that happens, it won't matter if we went over our bonus pool because he wouldn't counts towards that. It sounds like he is coming over next winter to get his clock started toward free agency. The winner is likely to be whoever has the most bonus pool money left over.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) They might as well go all out next signing period. Or skip it altogether and save money to make a run at Otani.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) How do the cardinals or dbacks have the prospects?? Dbacks have young pitching, while technically not prospects anymore, Shipley, Walker, and Bradley all are still really good young arms with upside. The Dbacks have the (now) best pitching prospect in baseball in Reyes and enough depth behind him to get a deal done. A deal of Reyes, Weaver, Perez and Kelly would rival anything we have seen speculated from the Pirates.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) I actually really doubt this. Too much going on over too long of a period. It's going to be one of the Pirates, Braves, Astros or Yankees. Other than that, Dodgers, Rangers and Rockies are the outsiders. Can't really make an argument for the other 22 teams. I think there are a couple others out there. The Cubs, Cardinals, and Dbacks have a need and the prospects to get a deal done.
