Yes. It was the championship that made it memorable to me. Jenks was one of my favorite players on that team and it was his first year with the team.
-
Would you trade Luis Robert and Dylan Cease for Ketel Marte? One is a proven 4+ WAR player in his prime, the other two are unproven and only projected for 4-5 WAR combined at two positions. That is essentially the inverse of the Moncada Dodgers trade.
-
The individual stories are a byproduct of a successful team. I haven’t been a satisfied CWS fan for the past 5 years just because Jose Abreu has been on the team and doing great things.
-
That trade could “potentially” make the Sox a better team in 2020 even, let alone years 2021-2025. Steamer has Lux at 1.7 WAR and May at 1.3 but both are projected for part time roles with the Dodgers. Obviously they’d be full time with the Sox. Steamer has Moncada projected for 4.0.
-
There have been countless trades that have gone both ways. At times in favor of the established player while other times in favor of the young talent. If I can obtain two top 25 MLB prospects (one that’s top 3), both of whom already have a taste of the big leagues and have held their own in SSS, plus another top 100 prospect I’m doing it. It’ll never happen so this is all hypothetical anyway but I’m making that trade.
-
If it makes the team better over the next 6-7 years I’m strongly considering it. I cheer for the team, not individual players (I guess I’m the anti-Greg). Again, you wouldn’t entertain Lux, May, and Gray for Moncada? I’d say you’d be foolish not to.
-
Ding, ding, ding!!!
-
Let’s extend them now to ensure they line up with the contention window and other young players. So let’s say that adds $50M to this year’s payroll for example. So they’re looking at an opening day payroll of ~$170M. Mind you, this roster still has significant flaws and a fairly large group of cheap young talent to help keep payroll anchored at a reasonable level. To properly address the remaining holes (pitching mainly), you start to quickly close the gap to the luxury tax amount.
-
What’s “market rate” for those two guys? Because I’d say you’re looking at $40M-$50M AAV between the two combined.
-
I didn’t say the Cubs should trade Bryant. I simply pointed out that they are considering doing it and that this is the reality of today’s game whether you like it or not. I agree that it’s insane to break up a WS contender because a key player is only two years away from free agency. It’s actually crazier to me that they would trade him given their current situation (WS contender, high revenue generator, etc) than the thought of the Sox trading Moncada within the next 12-24 months unless the Sox prove they too are a legitimate WS contender.
-
You’re being unrealistic and/or naive to think the Sox will be able to extend all their stars before they walk in free agency. And if there’s an opportunity to potentially cover three roster holes with high upside young MLB ready talent rather than one established star player for a team that has yet to prove they are even division contenders, let alone WS contenders, I’m strongly considering it.
-
Because according to Ray Ray a team should never trade a homegrown star, especially while in the midst of contention (which both the Cubs and Indians are).
-
You may think it’s laughable but it is the new reality. It can also be smart for the organization if executed properly. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/mlb/2020/1/2/21046706/mlb-trade-rumors-francisco-lindor-mookie-betts-kris-bryant-nolan-arenado Who says no in a deal with the Dodgers - Moncada for Lux, May, and Gray? The fact remains that finding young MLB ready talent like those three in exchange for Moncada who hits in 2023 aligns MUCH better with the CWS contention window.
-
Why are the Cubs talking about trading Bryant? Why are the Indians talking about trading Lindor?

I didn’t expect them to win so I’m not mad. They had a great season, especially considering expectations were relatively low going into the season. Heck, I thought the Bears were going to win the division again ? -

The 49ers were the worst matchup in the NFL for the Packers. Their strengths were the Packers’ biggest weaknesses. Packers had a much better shot of beating the Chiefs than they did beating the 49ers, especially in SF. I would have liked to see the matchup in Lambeau. Would have been a much different game imo. -

I mean it’s 3 am after a blowout loss and they’re cheering them home. That’s pretty unusual imo. I consider myself a die hard but I can’t hold a candle to most of the fans in Green Bay. -

I mean, if the White Sox win 100 close games this year and advance to the ALCS I’d consider it a huge success. -

https://www.google.com/amp/s/fox6now.com/2020/01/20/go-pack-go-titletown-faithful-welcome-the-packers-back-to-green-bay/amp/ Best fans in the NFL. It’s still remarkable to me that a city of population 105,000 has one of the largest and most loyal fanbases in the league. It truly is amazing. -

Congrats on “knowing” that a 7 point favorite would win. So bold of you. Who’s going to win the Super Bowl genius? -

Great first year for LaFleur. Much better than I expected tbh. Hopefully they shore up that run D and add a couple more playmakers on offense for next season. -

Great analogy. I would absolutely become an STL fan and Cubs fans 40 years from now would be like you can’t be a true Chicagoan and cheer for the Cardinals! -

Let me tell you why I grew up a Packers fan from my father. Dad was born and raised by Midway, die hard Sox fan. Cheered for the Chicago football Cardinals, who played at old Comiskey. When the Cardinals moved out of Chicago he wouldn’t dare cheer for the team that played at the Sox crosstown rival stadium in Wrigley (Bears) so he decided to cheer for the Bears’ biggest rival (Packers). Now that’s a die hard Sox fan, Sox > Chicago. -
