  1. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) If they make the WS and lose that would leave a bigger scar to cub fans then losing to the Dodgers. I dont think this is true. I think they will look at it as the next step. They will see that they have progressed further in the playoffs each of the last two years and then next year is when it finally happens. If they lose to the Dodgers I think they would feel much more defeated.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) So last year I moved my parents from their home in Joliet, IL out to Vegas, as their large home had become too much for them to manage and maintain any longer. This is the home I lived in from about 1995, after I graduated high school, off and on until I moved to Vegas in 2008. The house is in a historic district, is three stories, on .9 acres, and over 100 years old. It is an amazing home, but in need of a LOT of work, particularly things like HVAC system, plumbing overhaul, probably a new roof, and other large undertakings. If any of you are a glutton for punishment, and want to relive the movie "The Money Pit," the listing is here. Really a gorgeous home but the question is, is it haunted? I know you wouldnt tell us if it was but I have to ask.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) It is impossible to say that the game plays out in the same way if that play is reversed. Maybe not the same way but the Dodgers werent going to stop the Cubs from raking in runs last night. Maybe it would have been a little bit closer but in the grand scheme of things being how things played out there wasnt one play that had enough significance that would have changed the outcome. There were a lot of plays that the Cubs made and the Dodgers didnt execute on.
  4. I find it unappealing that AGon is harping on about him being safe on the replay called out. Dude, you guys lost by 8 runs.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) Cub fans at work are back in true form this morning. Everything is coming up roses. But Wednesday the world was ending and Maddon was a jerk. That is why I really enjoyed yesterday while it lasted. I knew this was going to be a long series of back and forth and they would be right back at it quickly.
  6. I enjoy the fact that today I can listen to sports radio and be around Cub fans without having my stomach turn. I realize that its only for a day and can totally change by tomorrow but I am going to enjoy my day.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Judging from the morale of some of the Chicago cops I know, I would think less policing might have helped the spike in violence as well. With all the recent high-profile police shootings, I wonder if cops are less likely to get involved where they may have in the past. This is definitely the case. I am hearing the same thing from my cop friends and family. There is no fear of a criminal getting caught after he/she pulls the trigger.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) On the other hand, we aren't only city with poverty or lack of opportunity and our rates have been much higher than national average. And after 20 years of decline it suddenly spiked up. Chicago isn't going to be able to eradicate poverty, but it should be able to tackle violence again. I also want to say how great it is of Whole Foods and Marianos for opening up stores in Englewood recently. Corporations have more ability to help start up a local economy there than relying on small mom and pop stores in such an economically depressed area with high violence. The pictures from the first day of that store opening the trib ran were heartwarming. Poverty will not ever be eradicated, no. But to give hope to a group that is hopeless may eradicate much of the kill or be killed mind set they feel forced into. Why other cities may not match the level of violence in Chicago I dont know. Typically everywhere you have poverty you have a higher murder rate though. I think Chicago's violence has gained momentum because the bar keeps on being raised in each violent act. If that gang is willing to come up in a park full of kids and start shooting at one of the opposing gang members than the other gang has to be willing to do that to.
  9. The violence issues in Chicago are all traced back to poverty, lack of opportunity, and its continuous cycle. Not the availability of guns.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) I googled and did not see much. Sorry. Me too. Just goes to show that Sox fans are in the upper echelon of fandom.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) It's a helpless feeling in the city. I can't believe how long it took mayor to respond. I find myself hoping the extra police will help, but unconvinced. U of Chicago crime lab released in June their study that Youth Guidance's Becoming a Man program was effective in reducing crime. https://www.youth-guidance.org/ I've been donating there but have not volunteered. I've become a mentor for a school in Auburn Gresham. Really wish if it really does impact that Chicago could fix the lead issues. That appears to be a great program and in my opinion we need more programs just like that to begin to fix the cities gang violence issues. There has to be an alternative for Chicago's youth otherwise they are going to make a career out of gang life because its all they have strive towards. If a young man has no good influences in his life that care about him or can show him a good example of how to succeed all he is going to see is how to succeed in these streets. Some will still choose gang life but we need to at least make it a choice for these young men. There is no choice for many right now.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) This help? http://www.ourdodgers.com/forum/viewforum....e74e9abb2653ee7 I suppose. Not a whole lot of activity on there if its not game time. I guess I would like a message board that is exactly like soxtalk except with Dodger fans.
  13. Does anyone know of a good Dodger message board?
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Is there a college QB that would fit the Bears' offense? I honestly dont know what the Bears offense is.
  15. This leads me to believe that there will be little changes with the roster as well.
  16. I would think that Renteria would have wanted to bring on his own staff...

    Music and more Music

21 Pilots have grown on me. There kind of Poppy for my taste but I like how they mesh a few different genres together with their own genuine style of doing it. Plus you can listen to their album and it doesnt seem like just a different variation of the same song throughout.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Kershaw will be what, game 2 starter? No I would assume game three.
  19. I am glad he is going to come back soon. He gets annoying at times when he feeds into the Bernstein whining and unnecessary argumentative behavior but he still loves his work and seems to genuinely appreciate his radio experience. I respect that about him.
  20. If by some miracle happening and the Cubs lose the next series I feel like I should join some random Cubs message board and troll them. You know, just to return the favor.
  21. One of the investigators on the DRose rape case found dead. http://abc7chicago.com/news/lapd-officer-w...d-dead/1551768/
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) I think the Giants have a better chance to win game 5 than game 4. I don't trust Moore, he can be inefficient at times, which is easy to exploit with a patient offense like the Cubs. My mind agrees with this but my gut is telling me different. I really respect the Giants and what they are all about and I think they win because they arent a team that is going to go down quietly no matter what you think should happen. Note: I am still afraid that Rizzo may have a MONSTER game against Moore.
  23. No surprise at all that the Giants grinded out a win last night. I expect a more comfortable Giant win tonight. Game five against Lester at Wrigley trying to get your third in a row from the Cubs? That's a tough one.
  24. This series goes five games. I know everything is lollipops and butterflies for the beloved Cubs but they will face a challenge in these Giants, they arent going to go quietly. I am convinced of that.
  25. QUOTE (Boogua @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) If the Bears get a top pick I'm really not sure a QB should be the focus. I'm not really sold on Kizer or Watson. Bring in a guy like Garrett to build around and draft a qb later IMO. Look at how Denver and Minnesota are doing thanks to great defense. Do we really think that the Browns will take a great QB ahead of the Bears? It will likely just ensure that the Bears dont take a bust because the Browns will have already taken that player off the board. LOL Not to give much credit to the Bears and draft picks but damn, I dont think you can get worse than the Browns.
