quickman replied to Sanjay2000's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) its called since arizona isnt coming close to contract extension. Means dodgers will not get the propsct catcher they want. Meaning Aj will be on their sites and if iguchi and his agents dont give him answer probably by tommrrow kenny will take money he offered and iguchi and give it aj. Ding Ding ding, you win. thank you -
White Sox and Iguchi far apart in Negotiations
quickman replied to Sanjay2000's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hope I can be more clear. The Sox want an immediate response from the jap players Rep. they need to know asap so they can turn there attention to signing AJ and another player. The Sox apparently were in the drivers seat with AJ because the Dodgers were hoping to get the Catcher from the Yanks for the green deal. That deal is now off. Therefore, specualtion says the dodgers might return to the AJ deal. The whitesox need to know there payroll now in order to stay in the game. hope this makes sense. if not who cares, it will play out. -

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) So what does the Shawn Green deal falling through do to the Loaiza to the Dodgers scenario? Is that nixed now too? No loizia has nothing to do with any of this. the point is the green deal would have brought the young catcher from the yanks. Now thats off. Now they will look closer at AJ. hope that makes sense. -
White Sox and Iguchi far apart in Negotiations

The score is reporting that the japanese players rep wants an extra million over two years. that came on the update about 10 minutes ago. They want an immendiate response because the shaun Green deal fell through. Therefore the AJ thing with the Dodgers is back on. -
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) There were no teams being mentioned for Omar either but that didn't stop one from swooping in and grabbing him from right under KW's nose. I'm not here advocating overpaying for AJ but there's nothing wrong with paying a player what he's worth, esp. when when he fills your biggest need and it still fits in your budget. I clearly understand your thinking, there were two teams out there that didn't think he was worth what he was suppose to be paid. Both those teams he played for. There is something not right with this guy despite his numbers. I am certain he will play this year, but his stats say he is good and should be paid even more than 3 million, but still nobody rushes in to get him. I still believe we will get him. As I mentioned lets see what the dodgers get first.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Maybe we are entering the "barring something unforeseen" territory. KW thought he'd have the team set by this weekend, unless there were snags. Looks like we've got a couple of snags. Good news on the Iguchi front is, if they can't come to terms, the Sox have Plan B in place it sounds like. If they wanted an answer from Iguchi asap it means they've got another iron on the fire. That said, identify the guys you want and go get them, within reason. To me, it does not sound like these guys demands are that unreasonable. Nor does the gap seem huge, there should be a way to get both of these deals done, as long as cooler heads and common sense prevail. jim, I still think things will get worked out. If there were teams lining up for these guys I can say spend the extra million. Nobody is lining up or maybe the dodgers are interested but are waiting to see if the D-bakcs deal goes through. We will know that today. If they don't get there catcher they will go after AJ, if they get the catcher they probably won't. I think we will understand all this better today or tommorrow as the deadline ends. In addition, I still beelive we will end up giving AJ 2.5 with an option for next year. (if the dodgers fall out) What other options does htis guy have?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) If they do not offer him the one million more that he wants i am gonna need a very good expanation why. Pierz>>> davis in every single aspect of the game. Getting him eliminates the biggest whole we have on the entire team. If our next biggest whole is willie i will be a very excited person. Qwerty, i think it goes back to his attitude or else others would be stepping up. Why are no other teams being mentioned or even offering. Something with this guy is not right. i don't know exactly what it is but he is a solid hitter and average behind the plate, it seems teams don't want any part of him. I would correlate it to people on a sales team, good sales person but doesn't care or get along with the team. Now I am purely speculating with this analogy but I think there is somethign to it.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) I understand this is the offseason and a great time to speculate, but you guys should forget about this Polanco talk. One, he's too expensive to fit into the White Sox equation. Two, he has his deal with the Phillies. Remember, they are going for it too and it doesn't make sense for them to dump him for two marginal players. Polanco is a proven guy, and it stands to reason if they do trade him they'll want proven talent in return. Anything can happen but the odds of this are very likely close to zero. A more logical scenario is exactly what's unfolding for the White Sox ... chasing Iguchi, and chasing Pierzynski. Just a hunch on my part but I think you'll see two outside additions to the White Sox infield. Jim, I will agree with you on this. I personally believe we will see two signings if not three before Monday of next week. We will need two infielders, whether that means two infielders we like I am not so sure. I also truly think they are close to signing AJ. If Williams gets this done, he will have very quietly have put us as the front runner in the division, and kept payroll in line. Unreal as that may sound.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) In reference to the Sox waiting till Soxfest to announce something I find it highly unlikely as well as highly stupid. If they have two guys who have agreed to deals and are just waiting till Soxfest to ink them then assuming those guys have yet to sign the contract then the Sox are really risking another team coming in and snagging what they thought they had. Now if they can somehow be sly and sign both of them to deals or whoever the hell they are looking at to a deal and keep it quiet till Soxfest more power to them I guess. But I highly doubt it. Trust me, if the Sox were to sign Pyrz or someone else quality right now that buzz would carry over to fest. i totally agree in fact I would find it to there benefit to sign them prior. considering soxfest is not sold out, it may bring a buzz to the event if they do it prior.

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Am I the only one that would *really* rather have AJ than Iguchi? I think with AJ, we know more what we're getting, while with Iguchi, it could go either way. Plus, I think Ben Davis at C is more of a liability for us than Willie Harris at 2B. Maybe that's just me, though. Why can't we have both. let this play out. its not necesarrily one or the other, its who will sign, and who will not. This is a good thing.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) Not that far off. Not wanting to offend anyone here, remember this is coming from a 75 yr. old lifelong Sox fan, stranded in Arizona, looking for White Sox news. I quote: "Any news on the Pollack catcher? What about the Jap 2nd baseman?" I told him if they'd sign Iguchi, they'd have to do something with Harris. I quote: "Who gives a s***." Just remember the apple doesn't fall far from the tree

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Ok, we have hijacked this thread, back on track here. Now that LoDuca has re-entered my stream of consciousness, there really aren't many teams out there who need a #1 catcher. This will all come down to where this guy wants to play, and how much playing time he expects to get. If AJP is indeed mulling over the Sox offer as Levine reported, that means he didn't reject it outright. It is so damn quiet, and that's why I think the Sox will have two signings very shortly. I need to clip out the articles for Dad in Arizona. 75th b-day present, Sox sign Pierzynski. I will not comment on the politically incorrect manner in which he inquired about Pierzynski's status over the phone today, suffice it to say he was born and raised in Bridgeport though. i have got to take a stab at this. they better get that damn pollack signed, god damn it.... just trying to give everyone a view of your old man.

Kind of the family thing to do. i will see the sox fail all summer. whats your dad looking for?

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Agree. The bobblehead gets pulled from my shelf the minute he signs with another team. The wife does not understand this concept, I've been explaining it for like, oh, 22 years now. knowing your wife, I am certain she would never understand me. When is our next night out with the gals? Lets plan soon

QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) good opinion, hope we can talk some good baseball at soxfest...and hopefully you can ignore my 'young sox fan mind' to talk some baseball. Jim, are you going too? i will not be there. I will be sking...again. I will keep you and your dad in mind for tickets this year.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) One year deal with a player option - Cubs or Orioles or Mets if the Mets can't get their first choices. True, true, One year lots of incentives and I don't care about maggs. he is not on my team, he turned down 60 million and hired the most arrogant piece of s*** agent around .he is dead to me.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Yeah ... you're right. He reminds me of someone ... I can't quite put my finger on who though ... Guess what finger I am looking at now.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Another guy who drove me crazy with all the stats talk was Joe McConnell. One time I remember Hawk got really pissed at McConnell because he'd made a non flattering remark to Gus Wynn. Harrelson had tons of respect for Gus Wynn, they were teammates in KC for a brief time as I recall. I do know Wynn got his 300th at Municipal Stadium in KC (now a vacant lot by the way). McConnell was pretty good announcing the Bears but he was Mr. Stat Mongerer when doing baseball. have you noticed a trend about hawk. he gets pissed at alot of people, alot of times. The only one who could control him was Drysdale. maybe Dysdale threw at his head one time in spring training.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) "Liiiine driiiive to left center field, that'll go all the way to the wall ... Heeere comes Russell, Heeeere comes Lopes, Heeeere comes Garvey ... It's a double for Cey, and the Dodgers take the lead." Bill Buckner is 19 out of 53 against righthanders in the daytime, when the sun is shining. The pitch, hit deep into center field, nobody is gonna get that one, fergeson will come lumbering home ahead of Von Joshua and now Messersmith will take a 3 to nothing lead into the 6th inning. That's Buckners 9 double hit at Chevez ravine on saturdays.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) Look at Timo's 3-year splits in different batting slots. I'm trying to figure out the inconsistencies. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/spli...68&type=batting Well, Vin Scully,as long as you bat him against righthanders, on grass, at night, we are in good shape.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) They traded for Lo Duca last year. Jim has a hard time keeping up with allstars. he likes the fringe players much better.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) Would anyone care to speculate the White Sox might sign two of Iguchi, Cora, Cairo, in addition to Pierzynski? And do something else with Harris? Does Harris have minor league options left? We have heard next to zero speculation about Alex Cora, from any other teams besides the Sox. jim, it is obviously paying off to wait. prices for these types of players will come down. Smart. Only thing is what to do with Harris. Doubt he goes down. Trading him is an option but who would want him other than kenny williams.
