  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) How did he "stick his foot in his mouth?" he said a change needed to be made, if not by Williams, then by himself. I would think everyone would agree, and would welcome a change on Tuesday. Thats what we are going to get. How did he stick his foot in his mouth? i am saying now he will need to make a change, he said tuesday, so its up to him to do something by his own deadline. A better choice might have been " I will talk to Kenny tonight and discuss changes that could be made in the near future because I am sick and tired of waiting" "Something will need to get done soon" Much better than calling KW out and giving a date. Thats what I mean by sticking his foot in his mouth.
  2. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) I understand what you're saying ... but the two (Guillen and Williams) are not on the same page at the moment. Guillen wants changes, Williams is preaching patience. Williams apparently does not feel changes are necessary and/or he knows there's nothing available. actually the guys that suck on this team are not really tradable. First konerko, has to approve a trade and he is injured. Who would want that? next Thome is old, strikes out alot and makes too much money. Plus he would need to stay a DH so who wants him? Next Dye, he is getting old, has some value, but again very few teams would want him, although he would be the best person now to trade. Then there is crede, his contract ending, his throwing errors and his agent do not make for a great return. Then uribe, well who cares about him anyway. Swisher, will not be traded, he is under contract entering his prime years and is affordable. He is the only guy I would preach patience too. So who else do you trade? Our minors suck, and the people running it, were cheaters and fired. We have nothing, that is why KW is preaching patience because that guy is not a patient man, he just does not have a damn choice. He is boxed in.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) I just hope they play relaxed and have fun this homestand. The offense has been as bad as you can imagine, and they're still in first place in June. Yes they are in first place, and they hit the ball today, the disturbing part is our best players have sucked this year with RISP. They are the leaders and quite frankly a simple fly ball could have won the game for us today. The guys who inject life in this team are the simple guys and the young unproven guys not the guys who are the team leaders. This is the disturbing part and its been like this going back to last year. They need some kind of change, and now Ozzie stuck his foot in his mouth so something will happen on tuesday. may not be a trade but some shakeout will happen.
  4. I feel somewhat like Ozzie does although I think they would do well against KC and back at home. Saying that though, this team is slow, old and and needs a spark. they need a new face, maybe a new coach but they do need to send this team a message. maybe Ozzie plays ozuna, andersen, rameriz, uribe, and toby hall for a game. It really doesn't matter who plays anymore. They all pretty much suck as a group right now, but I do understand that Ozzie is trying to shake this thing up. Saying what he said brins attention to the subject. Get a player who is fast and can lead off. I know I have harped this on other threads, but ryan freel is available and covers both spots. I know there might be others out there as well, but this team needs a shot in the arm and needs it fast. DL Konerko, its truly getting embarrassing. The guy is either hurt or lost it, eitherway he is no longer a threat in the lineup. He's done at least for now.
  5. Actually the solution to the hitting woes is coming to town in the form of KC. Thats when things will turn around. They will get there bats going at that time and then the confidence will carry to the next series. We are in first place by 2 games and we have not hit yet. we will come home and things will warm up.
  6. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 28, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Just a few comments on this topic, first on Hatteberg. There have been criticisms of Thome here regarding bat speed and age. Hatteberg is in the same boat, he's pushing 39 and there's a reason he can't crack a very mediocre Cincinnati lineup playing for a manager who loves veterans. Even if they do end up DL'ing Konerko, they've got Swisher and there are two guys at least who can play 1B in an emergency, those being Dye and Ozuna. That's why you see DeWayne Wise up here now as a fill in ... he adds speed and defensive flexibility. Hatteberg is much more one dimensional. As for Brad Eldred, if strikeouts and bad at bats frustrate you, you will not like him. There's a reason why he's playing in AAA at this point in his career. just to pile on we need to get younger and faster, not older. Brad eldred most likely will never see a game in the majors he is this years version of crash davis. Now have I mentioned ryan freel to anyone?
  7. buerhle always has at least one inning that he blows up, this year its been two innings. He just does not look good.He cannot over come mistakes.
  8. they need a great shortstop in order to compete. without one i think we will have a problem. Lets hope this works itself out unless the sox fall apart.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) I actually watched a lot of clips of Wallace yesterday and my opinion is changing. He's in my better shape than when I saw him a year or two ago. My flaw with Alonso is out of all of the guys he seems to have the least athletic build. I'm now leaning, Smoak/Beckham/Wallace if we go the college route & Skipworth if we go the prep route. I would take Crow if he somehow fell to us (But I can't see the Reds passing up on him). Although I am not much on this topic I did see Wallace play this year at ASU. He was a standout, like a pro playing with High school kids. I can see him as paulie's replacement in a few years.
  10. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 27, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) How do you like that routine of Konerko unstrapping and restrapping the batting gloves after every pitch? And yet Freel is the nut case. Yea well I like nut cases that run wild on the base paths and leadoff. the whole lineup would be better. anyway, I suspect if paulie wanted to go on the DL he would. he is the one holding the sox back. He is just miserable, and really looks bad at the plate. I agree he hit the ball hard yesterday, but with nothing to show for it, you can see him talking to himself. This isn't bull durham or some movie. This guy is lost and hurt. get him out of there. I think by coming out i the trib today and talking about his hand is the first step to going on the DL. Wasn't it just last week when he said he wasn't going to talk about the hand? Now this. Its all prep for DL time. The shot was just to see if things changed. They didn't although there are still a few days left to find out.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 27, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) Probably, just another thing to watch with him. Some of the poor swings are due to the wrist/thumb. If he begins a swing, it will really hurt to check it. I'm sure he just let's the swing go due to the pain. This may account for many awful looking swings. first great posts, you must be very good at your job. I realize we all try to play doctor or fix it man, but clearly Paul Konerko is not playing well. Whether its a hip, or a hand, or his age, or his new batting stance, its not working. paul is also one of those guys who dwells mentally and tries to fix things in a hurry. The guy is going to drive himself crazy and quite frankly he has become a non entity to me as I become frustrated watching him everyday. It appears like he has pain in his hand which alters his batting stance which may alter his hip rotation, which may mess with his mind. Sit his ass down to heal, and fill the gapping leadoff hole and be done with it until all star break. you can't trade the guy and he can't continue to go 0 for 6 and be in the middle of your lineup. I would think the sox are smarter than this, I assume paulie doesn't want to sit and there respecting that, but something needs to get done.
  12. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 27, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Thanks for the info. Sounds like Paulie could use a couple of weeks off. He's almost an automatic out at the plate, and playing him at 1B isn't helping his thumb heal. Maybe a stint on the 15-day DL (with Swisher at 1B and BA in CF), and working him back into the lineup slowly (to keep the swelling down) would be the best course of action. sounds like paulie could use 8 weeks off. Put him down now and see him after the all star break. Go get freel, stick him in the leadoff spot, hit cabera second likes he wants and move AJ down to hit for more power to compensate for konerko. Andersen will man center field and bat ninth.
  13. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 27, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Jason I doubt the Cubs want Owens. I can't see Lou wanting him, not until they make the call on Edmonds, at minimum. Murton is a man without a position and that's what keeps him from the majors. I agree the power thing is overrated. For whatever reason Hendry has been very reluctant to part with him. Red Sox have asked about getting him back and Hendry keeps shutting them down. It is a shame he's stuck in AAA though because he can hit. Speaking of wayward Cubbie outfielders, it wouldn't shock me if Corey Patterson gets DFA'd later today. felix pie is better than owens, why would thye want owens. Owens sucks
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) OC's received the most favorable official scoring of any Sox player I can ever remember. For him to be complaining about it, I am stunned. Hopefully he'll continue to get on base a few times each game like he has been recently. you cannot win gold gloves without a bit of politicing. I am sure this is not the first time he has done this.
  15. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 23, 2008 -> 06:05 PM) I agree that Freel likes to drinky drinky but lots of players did (do) that. As you say if the leadership is strong enough it wouldn't be a problem. Sheer speculation on this though. Reds are in the basement but only 6-7 out and it's still May. I think their new GM wants to wait and evaluate. While I agree we changed this topic completely and nothing will happen immediately i think freel is expendable at anytime. He is not griffey or Dunn. I think if the osx wanted too they could get this done rather quickly. Anyway, the winning streak ends tonight, LA always gives us fits. We will need to re-group and start another win streak.
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 23, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) Ryan Freel is bats*** nuts. so what, we have enough veterans to keep him in line
  17. konerko needs some time off, maybe now is the time. Move swish to first, give konerko the weekend off. Have a backup outfielder in place if we need it.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) The last thing Reds need though is another center fielder. They have Jay Bruce on the horizon. you asked who we could get for andersen and I gave you a name. I think they would make that trade, griffey and Dunn will both be traded within the next year. so there you go.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Who are you going to get that can leadoff and play 2nd base for Anderson? The Orioles have Adam Jones in CF already, and the Pirates have McLouth. Thus, Roberts and Sanchez aren't likely. Anderson alone won't get you a starting 2nd baseman though.. ryan Freel
  20. guys I am way late to the game on this, and I do not see any thing on whitesox .com, or the newspapers on the latest. Can someone please recap a bit more.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) Again, more Crede fanboys and their everquest to move everyone on the team around just to keep their player. Lets trade Konerko, Thome, Fields so we can keep a guy coming off injury who has Boras as his client. Makes sense. don't you just love banging your head against the wall all the time?
  22. Singleton is out and Steve Stone is in full time.
  23. not sure I understand the hate part. He is right, unless you think we can compete. Which we cannot. seems like a reasonable article to me. Which part is wrong?
  24. QUOTE(rowand's rowdies @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) anyone who suggests that anyone who suggests Weaver doesn't know Sox history well does not know sox history well. did that make sense? We have a catcher now who there was a lot of bad blood with for a long time. Also, there was a CF we went after pretty hard this offseason who had bad blood with us for a long time. There are other smaller examples. It's a business, don't forget that. $ is what talks. I suppose that is true but I do not think JR wants to give any of his money to Scott Boras. Pick an Arn Tellem client instead.
  25. they are both represented by Scott Boras. Not going to happen
