  1. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Anything worthy of repeating? sorry they are going over the daily news report and Murphy is saying that KW is going to play to win the world series now not worry about two years from now. His opinion.
  2. score and Mike Murphy are talking about this now
  3. this rumor made the score's update report
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) You're a wise man. Maybe that talk started about a week ago when Ozzie started calling out garcia about holding runners on base, and thinking his stuff is so good that he can jsut let runners get to second base. Wasn't that around the time when Ozzie and KW started talking about the roster for the second half. Just curious
  5. the risk to all this is if Garcia and Vasquez pitch like crap in there next outing. I am sure they aare reading the same crap we are. Its easy to get distracted especially in the NEw York press.
  6. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) I can't see Kenny risking getting burned in the WS by one of our former starters just for the sake of acquiring a reliever. I would take my chances of getting burned by one of our pitchers who has a 5 ERA and can't hold runners on base. The mets would need to make it for one, we would need to make it for two and getting a Reliever and a prospect (assuming) would be the right price. In addition, an assumption might be made that we would be done trading which I do not think would be the case. actually I think the Sox would be doing damage control in the locker room today. I am sure KW will be in there saying "now don't you believe everything in those newspapers"
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) He's batting .309 with a .396 OBP...he provides a great back up for LF/RF and almost the entire IF. He just isn't a CF, although Ozzie keeps putting him there. Ross Gload couldn't play LF or RF decently if his life depended on it, and he certainly couldn't even attempt to play 3B or 2B. What in the hell kind of comparison is that? Does anyone else feel the same as this guy? I think Rob has been a great addition to the club. I honestly can't see why anyone would think otherwise, unless they're saying so because Ozzie is playing him out of place. Rob has been very good, just misplayed. He was suppose to be a super sub in the outfield and infield. he is not a center fielder but he is forced to play there. Lets hope this gets fixed. Rob is a much better Utility player than centerfielder.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) Rowand isnt worth that much, and he would make us any better. Rowand blows. Rock, Rowand doesn't blow but he is no all star either. My thoughts as I wrote are simple. IF andersen doesn't continue to improve this month I truly believe they should go out and get help at that position. I think they should keep andersen because he will improve in future years. In my opinion he is not ready to play everyday in this league. We are going for a world series. We are not rebuilding. As far as Ozzie saying that Andersen is his center fielder, he is right, he is right now, and what is he suppose to say? he needs to keep the kids confidence up. I think if Andersen continues his improvement it will take care of itself. Andersen is far better defensively than Rowand.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) Tigers will get either Soriano or Carlos Lee. I thought they were looking for a left handed bat.
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) Weren't the Tigers interested in Huff? Who will they go after now? Bobby abreu
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Im just curious of who we are supposed to have other than PODS? He is the best guy we have, and have had for many years. He is not the best in the game, but seriously, how are we going to get our hands on those people. Lead off men are a seriously hard thing to come by. Its always good to improve on the team at any position, but in this situation, I am drawing a complete blank. Plus he fits alot of the attitude on the team, and seems to have a big impact on the hustle and energy. although i agree with you, I am not a huge fan of pods. Certainly leadoff men are hard to find as you point out, but in my own dream I will take a chance on getting Ryan freel. May take some doing, but maybe next year.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) If we could find another righty reliever...that would work very well with BMac as well, and would put him in the starting role he's always been in. agreed, but name one that could have the same dramatic influence as a schmidt. I agree though in principal.
  13. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Jim H is correct. The year after a world series win the starters tend to be worn down and less effective. KW knows this and this is why went went and got Vazquez. There may be more going on and could be the basis of the rumors. I know I've beat this notion into the ground and have been put down but I believe that is what is happening and the rotation does need help. No reason for a beat down at all. I suspect there arms are very tired. If they get another starter maybe they will just DL a starter every 15 days, to give some of these guys some rest. its not that far fetched as long as the starter they get is very good. It certainly will be very interesting.
  14. I think buster olney seems like a nice guy, but is he ever right? he just posted two potential deals in the last few hours. I realize its heating up out there, but he may want to be a bit more specific.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) This post makes it sound like he's still struggling as we get closer to the trade deadline and it's making for tough decisions for KW. As does the next quote No need to get defensive. The way you word your posts it sounds like he's still struggling to hit major league hitting at this point in time, which just isn't true. It seems that over the past month it has finally clicked for him and he's now turned it around. It may be more of the general feeling around Anderson where people look at his .192 batting average and just assume that he's still hitting like s*** when that is just not the case. Not saying you're doing that per se but it's just the tone that most Sox fans seem to take when talking about him. After Uribe got hot and lifted his batting average it seemed people just forgot about how bad he had been, now Brian has hit his stride and is getting all his numbers up and yet you still here similar talk to what you did before. The fact of the matter is, he has been hitting at a very reasonable pace for quite a while now, no matter what his overall numbers say. Got it, completely understand how you would get that opinion. I hope the kid continues to hit well. We need him, in fact I think he should just play every damn day, and keep mackoviak on the bench or fill in for pods later in a game. Andersens defense is so much better than Macko's that its definetly missed when he is not playing. i say you just play him all the time for the rest of this month. IF HE DOESN"T COME THROUGH (hit 250, with good at bats in that time frame) then you make a move, but getting back to the thread, you don't trade him or Mcarthy for Schmidt. I want schmidt but not for those players. Took way too many posts, but that is my point. Use other prospects to get him. Secondary note: if they are looking for a starter could it be that maybe one of there starters isn't feeling too good right now?
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) His July stats are great, but that's about 4 full games worth. And he's been good over the last month, too, but it seems kind of arbitrary to throw out the rest of June, when he was terrible. Just trying to keep it in context -- as I've said, I think he'll hit well enough from here out. None of this really surprises me, so I'm not sure how you're correcting me. All I said was that you don't seem to believe that minor league hitting stats translate well to the pros, which I disagree with. cool. I hope your right.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) I don't really understand why you keep posting this when he's not even struggling right now. He's been pounding the s*** out of the ball and in turn his numbers have begun to skyrocket a .333 BA for the month of July is pretty damn good and it's gotten his overall average up to .192. He hasn't "struggled" for quite a while. keep posting what? I am responding to a trade thread. What part are you having an issue with? The part that says I don't want to trade him? the part that said I think he needs to bat 250 from here on out? The part that says he is better defensively than rowand? The part when I stated he will win a gold glove? The only thing remotely negative to what I stated, apparently repeatedly, is that I would like to see him hit 250 and I don't think we will win this thing with a 200 hitter in centerfield. I believe in all these statements. Your right he is batting much better. Hope he keeps it up, if he batted like this earlier than we wouldn't be talking about any of this. again I didn't bring up this rumor, and its just a rumor, and this is a internet board that discusses bulls*** like this.
  18. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) Yeah, I wasn't sure about you. I know you don't care much about minor league stats, but I do, and from those I find it hard to believe that he'll hit below .200 for the rest of the year. And, jmo, but I'm not too picky about anything between .230-.270, as long as he manages an obp over .300 (and preferably .310), and picks up the power a bit. Which I think he'll do, so I'm not eager to give up much for a cf. actaully this may sound strange coming from me, but let me set the record on a few things. The first is I like andersen in the field. I think he is already better than Rowand and I do think andersen will one day win a gold glove. Now that has no bearing on this year. When you have a chance to win the whole thing, take it. I am not advocating Andersen or mcarthy to leave this team. i suggest we use other chips, but I do believe if andersen continues to struggle than we will continue to struggle in the long run as well. I am not saying he is an MVP just that we need a better hitting approach from him. as far as the minors are concerned, I don't care too much for these guys because I think 1 out 10 make it. The ratio is probably worse than that. In addition free agency has completely changed the game and a team can fill in pieces with those types of players if need be. I do think there will be a time in the future where the sox will fail and then sell off there parts to rebuild. At that time I will look to folks like yourself and the futuresox people to determine if we are getting good value for our major league players we are trading. Right now though I am thinking pennant race and world series.
  19. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) the end of the world is upon us. not sure I understand, but this is a trade thread talking about a rumor. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) BA dug himself such a deep hole that he's not gonna look good in the final account, like Paulie in 2003. I hope everyone can keep that in mind, and not keep citing the year-total stats. Which most people here seem to be doing, I'm just saying. hey jackie, I actually don't think I am doing that. I think that if he hits 250 from here on out, than we will be ok, but time is not on our side. KW will need to make a decision on that within a month. If the guy was hitting 250 already this would not be talked about and we would be concentrating on the bullpen.
  20. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) dont look now, but anderson is almost up to hitting .200 =P so if he hits .400 in the second half, he'll hake it to .300 hHA You know what, if he hits 250 from here on out, thats all that is needed. Rowand hit like 265 last year. Andersen just has to stop being an easy out. He cannot be hitting like a pitcher especially in NL parks. That would mean two players who hit less than 200 and thats a problem. If he can get it together than that would be great, problem is we are running out of time and we are in it this year. If we weren't so close it would not make a difference, but the Tigers will improve with a player or two, and so will the yanks and even teams in the west. The sox have three holes right now. Bullpen, a hitting center fielder, and starting pitching (unless these guys get there asses together)
  21. I thought we were talking about pitching. Andersen is very good defensively but not ready this year.Thats not bad just factual. I think you need a better than 200 hitter in center field if you want to win this thing. Doesn't mean we can't keep andersen, just means maybe we might want to get somebody better for the next two months. In addition, I do think if we can get schmidt without giving up andersen or mcarthy we should damn right do it. Our starting pitching has not been good and maybe its because we pitched alot of innings last year, who knows, but schmidt would be nice to have.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Scmidt is older, overpriced, and has been iffy the last few years, plus the move to US Cellular would kick his era up more than one point. We would benefit more by putting BMAC into the rotation, moving Vaz in a deal, picking up a reliever and keeping BA. Both the cost, and the benefits are better that way. Stupid rumor, I think someone read their email from last year and posted the same s***. i actually think it makes sense but not for mcarthy and or Andersen. Certainly what we have seen from KW is his ability to target certain players and get them....eventually. Getting scmidt for three months for arguably our two best young players doesn't seem to fit. What does make sense is KW's target of schmidt. Certainly we could get him for other prospects. actually I would trade vasquez and a prospect for schmidt. Vasquez would probably do a run better on his ERA in the NL and in effect give the giants a veteran player. We grab schmidt, and if we don't resign him next year we move mcarthy in the rotation and get 2 first round picks.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Why do we need a CF? You asked and I answered, I will argue the fact that I think we need a better hitting center fielder to go all the way in anotehr thread. Why get off subject?, just to pick on me a bit? Back to the point. If we need anotehr pitcher it should be buehrle, if it is he probably won't be able to to pitch in the All star game. If that happens I would rather have liriano take his spot. there ya go. could care less if you agree.
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) I'd like to think that if we made it to the WS, it wouldn't matter where we played. But, really, do you expect us to get to the WS? not the way they are playing now, but we get the wild card and if the pitchign gets better in a short series and we get a centerfielder then yes. Point is, Buehlre can give us an inning here. I care more about this game than having buehrle pitch in the all star game. Quite frankly there are other pitchers more deserving, but there may not be other pitchers we can go to in this game to win it.
  25. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Why does that matter at all. He could just go and not pitch. Why do we need to add Liriano? I just thought we would like to have the best pitcher in baseball pitch in a game that might mean somethign to us. My bad
