This team will have a better regular season record than last year'

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) This was the same old horse s*** I heard last year when we opened the playoff series against Boston. Does anybody remember what our record was against the Red Sox during the 2005 regular season? We were a game under .500, 4-5 I believe. Did that carry over in the post-season? NO. I don't give a s*** how we perform during the regular season, who we beat, etc, as long as we get to the damn playoffs. The theory that the White Sox couldn't beat the Red Sox during the regular season was thrown around thousands of times last year....look what happened. Basically all I'm saying is that it's stupid to judge how a team will perform in the playoffs (if we get there), based off of two lousy regular season games. I really think there has been a lack of focus for our starters this year, I'm not sure what it is. Hopefully Jose has a good outing tomorrow. i actually don't believe that was my point at all. I realize you probably didn't read the whole thread but not my point. was it someone elses? -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Well I think the ASB is coming up at a real good time for us. Coop needs to sit down with every starter and show them the film etc of when they were pitching well, because each starter at various points this season has certainly done that. SSI71 came up with a real good list a couple of days back of what each starter was doing wrong and it was certainly fixable by the sounds of it. Also, a lot of Detroit's Starting Pitchers aren't 2nd half pitchers. Kenny Rogers isn't, Jeremy Bonderman wasn't last season, and Nate Robertson certainly hasn't, and I don't expect Zach Miner to continue pitching well for the rest of the season while he's filling in for Maroth. So they're due for a letdown sometime in the future as well. Well I hope your right. I do think Detriot will cool off but I really don't want to be 5 or 6 games back when they do. Staying within 1 or 2 games is key, so when detriot cools off we can pounce. By the way Tigers up 1-0 -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) Do you really expect that our starting pitching can actually get worse from here on in? I really don't know, why do you think it will get better? I think you missed my point or at least you misread what i have said. I think the sox right now are not playing well. I think there pitching is terrible. i think the schedule is not kind to us in the near future.I think the tigers schedule is easy. I think if we fall back 6 games to the tigers after that series, then we will be contending for the wild card not the division. it is my opinion only. I do think our bats will cool down. i have no idea if our pitching will be as good as last year which it will need to be because the division is better. Again my opinion. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) I gotta admit, you're more reasonable than the others with your position. I just have a little more faith that our guys will do what they need to do. Put that comment in lights. Nobody ever called me reasonable. LOL -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) No, I don't believe they're going to win every year. But I also don't think we're suddenly going to fall out of the division race after winning a title when we're on pace to win 105 games. Even if we are 6 back, that's still a manageable deficit, especially with the schedule that the Tigers have coming up. The problem is we aren't playing that poorly. We've been winning every series, staying neck and neck with the best team in baseball. We lose one series to another good team and suddenly we're s***. Geez, relax. I am not excited at all. No reason to relax. I am not jumping off a bridge, nor am I a bandwagon fan. I do think 6 games is alot. Hell 2 games seems to be alot and I do think the sox are not playing well. It just shows more against better teams. They need to pitch better. Our starters really do suck right now. 5 ERA's are not going to win you a division. -
good lord. Pass the bottle.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) Wait, you've been saying how they'll be out of the race and tied with the Yankees, and you're saying 6? That's not THAT bad. I wouldn't call that "out of the race." Anyways, my guess is somewhere right around where we are, like 3 or 4. I believe I said they will be out of the divisional race contending with the Yankees for the Wild card. i think my point of which you seem to ignore is that the sox are not playing well and this is a tough schedule coming up. Considering we have not been able to catch the tigers when we are just a game back I would view 6 games back to be a problem. I view this year as contending for the Wild card. I hope I am wrong but the pitching is not there and the hitting will cool off. as far as giving up, I am not as i continue to pay my 12k a year for tickets, but i do know when a team is playing poorly and now is that time and quite frankly its the wrong time with a tough week for us and an easy week for detriot. i bet you believe we will win every year. it doesn't happen. QUOTE(GSH @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) You people need to relax. 2nd half will be nerve racking but but but but I realize your point, I am relaxed actually. Board discussions are good gives a different perspective on things. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) You're already conceeding the games as losses, that's where you're giving up. I certainly don't see us losing all of them, or the Tigers winning all of them. I see it as being roughly the same as it's been the last month: they hold their own and generally end up winning the series. The only real difference is Boston has matched our slugging this series. Neither of those teams have the same kind of lineup as they do. They Yankees have been pretty mediocre, and we're 5-1 so far against Detroit. I expect us to at least split them, that's what the better teams do. 0k no problem and I am saying they will be 6 games out after the tiger series. This is not that hard of a discussion. i gave my reasons, which you disagreed.no problem. I gave my reasons and you have yours which I believe is "they will hold there own" Ok, no problem, I just think they are playing poorly now and the schedule gets tougher. How many games back will they be after the tiger series? -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Talk to the Angels and Astros about Buehrle and Garcia about "not dominating" in the playoffs. People were saying the same s*** in August last year, and lamenting about how we needed another big bat to go anywhere. Oops. Quit giving up before the battle's even close to over. nobody is giving up, and this has nothing to do with last year either. The team is different and so is the american league central. last year should never come into the conversation. This team right now is not pitching well nor are they playing well. Thats the facts. i am saying they are heading into a bad part of the schedule which will leave them many games back. How is that giving up? Please tell me how you think they will do tommorrow and against the yankees and tigers on the road. Then tell me how the tigers will do against seattle the next two games and then the four against KC. I realize we must and they must actaully play the games but really do some math and let me know how many games back you think the sox will be. -

Well I think I made my point. The original thought was from Hibbard who said we would have a better record than last year. I completely disagree. I also stated we will go into a skid right here. We are two games into a skid which i believe will lead us to 6 games out by the time the Tigers are down mopping us up. I don't want to be right on this one, but the bats will cool and the pitching is not in top form. i also think unlike last year this team will need a spark via a trade. For who I don't know but it will need a spark. Furthermore i am saying we will be contenders for the wild card not the division. There you go, I gave you my reasons which you can disagree, but I believe they are sound reasons and I do believe we are running into a very difficult part of of schedule with a poor pitching staff "right now" -

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) My gawd quickman ... "could easily" have nine losses. So what. He has nine wins. Those are the facts. We also could have lost every game Thome did not play in against the N.L. Ifs mean nothing. The White Sox are going to be in the race all year. what race, the wild card (yes) nothign else. The point of this thread was the sox were going to have a better record than last year. I disagree. thats the point. And hibbard is nowhere to be found. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Our pitching will not be this bad all year. All of their totals are well above their career averages. Either we're getting extremely unlucky in catching this all in one year, or they'll start pitching better at some point. and our hitting will not be as good as all this year. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) How about the fact that their team ERA is higher? Josh Beckett is their number 2 starter, how's he doing? No, not really. Their ERA's haven't been constantly at 5. Freddy and Javy have both been under that for most of the year, and Garland's is on its way down. they are on there way up and we are on our way down. Quite frankly, I really don't understand this argument. Hibbard started it by saying we will have a better record than year. I disagree. Our pitching is not as good. Pitching wins. Secondly, I think the sox are in a stretch now that will dictate the direction of this year. They will not win this division. This next week is critical. The tigers assuming they win tonight and tommorrow should have a 4 game lead on us going into the allstar break. We will play the yankees and they will have 4 against the royals. then we will go to detroit. You assume my math is incorrect, I am saying we should be out of division contention by the end of the month, fighting with the yanks for the wild card. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) How in the hell do you figure that the Yankees are better? Their pitching about as bad as ours with no real prospects for improvement, with Matsui and Sheffield out for the forseeable future our offense is better, and our record is 5 1/2 games better. Boston's pitching is worse than ours too. Suddenly a pitching staff goes from the best in baseball to horrible because of one bad stretch. I'd happily take that bet. We will not lose 6 in a row. By the way our pitching has been progressively getting worse. Not better. We have been winning with our bats which cool off. Vasquez has nine wins and could easily have nine loses. Unless the pitching gets better I can't see us making the playoffs right now. Furthermore, we are losing to boston at home. we will need to go to yankee stadium and detriot. I really don't like the chances. Bats go cold, just like today with bases loaded and nobody out with our heart of the order up. No runs. bats go cold. -

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) The hitting is way better, and the pitching cannot get worse. So you would bet that this team would not be capable of going 44-31 or better down the stretch, a .587 winning percentage The one with the picture of Andrew Jackson on it, for any and all takers via pm actually I would say the sox are prime to lose 6 in row. I think our pitching is horrible, and if a trade isn't made we will struggle with the wild card. Despite the record the Red sox are better, the yanks are better and the tigers are better. last time I checked one of those teams needs to be out. Our starting pitchers are giving up 5 runs a game. Bats go cold. Ours will go cold. Our pitching is horrible. I predict a loss tommorrow, three to the yanks and we will, lose 2 of 3 to the tigers. By that time we should pretty much be a wild card contender holding on by a string. -

Politte needs to be released. Quite frankly it doesn,t matter if teams compete to pick him up. he is not cutting it. any of our minor leaguers can do the same s*** as cliff plus they would be getting experience as they get racked around. it happens, right now he has completely lost it. -

The Official Cliff Politte Sucks Thread
quickman replied to JenksForPrez45's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) That doesn't mean Cliff didn't suck. He's horrible with those bone chips. I don't care if every other player gave up 10 runs for us, the other guys have proven something good this year, Cliff has proven that he sucks this year. I agree this game told Ozzie what he really needs to know about politte. He now knows undisputedly that he cannot count on him at all. gullien didn't know that after the Pirate game. That homer could have been a fluke, but now he knows. In addition, he plays the next 7days without a day off why burn another pitcher when your down by that much? He accomplished saving his pen and knowing politte blows chunks. The sox will most likely keep politte throughout the week, which would be a mistake. The all star break will be the end of the line for Cliff. -
well the trade rumors will get heavy right after the all star break. its no secret that the sox bullpen was suspect since day 1, but after today there is no reason politte needs to be on the team. Any one of our minor league pitchers can do what politte does. Cliff has just lost his mind. Its time to get serious and get the damn players we need to win the whole thing.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Buehrle does not belong in the ASG even before today's game. i know that
-
This whole inning was on mark. It seems he actaully worked too fast. Like he jsut wanted to get out of there, so he hurried everything. Watch out there is more to come. Buehrle wanted to get out of there as quick as p;ossible so he hurried everything. Very dissapointing. Maybe he is pissed that ozzie didn't pick him for the all star game.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) There are serious problems for this team right now. Three starters have really bad ERA's. They make like 25 million dollars. That is way past unacceptable. And Widger cannot call a baseball game anymore. Those are real problems that will bite us in the ass come playoff time. Whoever said we're like the 2005 Red Sox hit it right on the head. We can't have guys with ERA's of 4.65, 5.00, and 5.76 starting playoff games. Teams with great offenses and bad pitching usually don't win it all. Excellent post and I agree. The feel right now is different and I think its because of our starting pitching. They get hurt by big innings all the time. If we were in first place right now the pressure would not be there, but we are chasing a team who is great. thats why the microscope is out. We need garland to show up big today. Every damn pitch counts. Garland gets lazy out there and loses focus. he has to grow up.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) Q, I have no problems with Ian. I was the one who suggested him as a guy to help run the Bears site, and possibly take over things in the future. Trust me, after doing this for quite a while, I don't just recommend anybody for that kind of stuff. sorry Mike, i misread that whole thing! You going today?
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) I'll make you a deal. I won't patronize you, if you don't use this place as your own personal litter box to show up at when you need to take a dump when you have a bad day. Most of the time I hate whats going on here, but you two guys are two of the best and have been around here along time. If I can play friend for a bit...patch it up. Otherwise I am down to Rock, Jim. Doesn't leave much as you can see!

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) I don't disagree and I second guess and gripe almost as much as some, but on the other hand let's not lose sight of the fact we aren't quite half way through the season yet and are one of the two top teams in baseball. We want to win every game for sure, but it aiin't going to happen. I want us to be in a good position to step over the Tigers when we play them again. We are 5 out of 6 with them so far this season with 13 left head to head? Got it and I don't mind geting smoked every once in awhile but this game was indeed ours. in fact with the right managerial moves last inning we could be tied. Anyway, i too believe we need to stay close and we do that by beating the bad teams. Pitt is a bad team, the Cubs are a bad team.
