  1. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:22 AM) How about trying to trade for this guy? The As are on a fire sale http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=430599 It's kinda tough to trade for a guy from a team looking for prospects when you basically already traded all your good prospects to that team.
  2. someone remind me... why would we want either Colon or Garcia? So we can waste a couple million on over the hill bums who will provide nothing except maybe some L's?
  3. looking at, we made a trade that was basically Gio, DLS, Sweeney, Cunningham, and Carter for Swisher, Quentin, and Richar.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) Well, if we're doing the hole hindsight thing, I'd really love the guy who went 2 picks after Casey Rogowski. wouldn't we all...
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Oakland acquired about half of our minors this offseason. Oakland has what would be our top 5 prospects if they were still with us... Gio, DLS, Cunningham, Carter, and Sweeney... We should have held off on the two trades with Arizona and just made a mega deal with both Arizona and Oakland. That would of been fun.
  6. Swisher isn't a leadoff hitter. It would make tons more sense to bat Cabrera leadoff ahead of Swisher.
  7. well, generally teams don't get 5 first round picks... so it is a bit of a bad comparison... Looking back at the 02 draft, James Loney would be sweet to have right now.
  8. even though he is a prick, I agree with Rogers on this one.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) It's more like he is no longer a Charlotte Knight. that hurts...
  10. I miss having photoshop so I come here to ask for help... Can someone use the picture of Ryan Sweeney I am posting below and add a border and text saying "I Remember" at the top of the picture, and "Ryan Sweeney" at the bottom. Shouldn't be that tough, I think, and any help is greatly appreciated.
  11. It's just hit me that Ryan Sweeney is no longer a White "Sock"... I am really sad right now.
  12. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) I have a feeling that even the people who don't like this trade are going to like having Swisher on this team. I don't like the trade, but I'm a big Swisher fan.
  13. QUOTE(Pasqua's Mailman @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) 1. Swisher played almost 60 games in CF last year. But was bad. 2. How is Aaron Poreda an injury waiting to happen? Based on what exactly? He has pitiful mechanics 3. If none of the guys in the minors will be anything for three year, how will the Sox be the worst team in the world in 2010? Because our team is over the hill and we have no players in the farm to replace them when they leave. 4. Why shouldn't KW try to compete? What is he supposed to do? Trade all the veterans away and field a Marlin's type team? Yes. 5. How does this trade make it less likely that the Sox will compete THIS year? None of the players the Sox traded would really have helped this year, so how does this impact 2008? It makes us a better this year, but I fail to see how this will "put us over the edge."
  14. pitching > hitting... Bedard >>>> Swisher EDIT: I should add, if I had it my way, we'd be in the middle of a rebuilding process that began in June of 2007.
  15. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) if it could've landed bedard it would've. I said plus some along with those 3....
  16. 1. Jack Egbert 2. Lance Broadway 3. John Shelby 4. Aaron Poreda 5. Jose Martinez That is disgustingly bad for a teams top 5 prospects.
  17. what I miss about 05 is is dominate pitching. It's the old cliche that pitching wins championships, but I believe strongly in that. I would have rather seen DLS, Gio, Sweeney, and plus some go to Baltimore for Bedard rather then just those 3 for Swisher.
  18. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) LA=latin america, sorry. okay, that makes more sense... boy, if we had the Dodgers scouting, I would not mind this trade one bit.
  19. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) why'd we trade for quentin then? he's still delusional and thinks Crede will still be with us.
  20. I think it would be crazy not to bat Swisher either 2nd or 3rd. Leadoff, I hate the idea of having someone like Swisher leading off when he's strength is power and driving people in. Bat him 2nd or 3rd, and have Thome behind him. That way we have two guys who will be getting on at or close to a .400 clip for Konerko, Dye, and Fields.
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) we've also redone the entire scouting dept. from what 29&poplar has told us, including spending much more money on LA scouting. can I get a link of where he said that? If we got some of the LA scouts, I'd have a little more faith...
  22. well, I personally would try and trade Dye for either pitching depth or a leadoff hitter... 1. speedy guy who can put up an OBP of at least .340 with decent D, CF 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Swisher, LF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Fields, 3B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Quentin, RF 9. Richar/Ramirez, 2B
  23. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) wouldn't we all, bearsox? But we don't, and when we make a move like this to greatly improve a position on this team for the next 5 years, how is that different than having a all star potential OF waiting in the wings? I think in the next few years our new scouting dept. will have this team suited well to have impact players coming in about 2011. So i'm not worried about moving these spects for a legitimate hitter. The point of having a farm system is so you can nab guys like this. Now we have a legitimate OF for the first time since ... maybe 04 i guess. Now we have the #8 pick in the draft and a new scouting dept. what's the point of keeping guys that weren't that highly thought of anyways for a really good hitter? correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we hire someone we fired before as Shaffer's replacement? And if I recall, his drafts sucked as well.
  24. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) BearSox, How much longer are going to still be "attracted to Ryan Sweeney"? I am always gonna be attracted to him... And I will enjoy watching him develop in Oakland. Should get a good opportunity to play next season as well... I love mlb.tv.
  25. oh! And to make things worse, we don't even have a second round pick! If it isn't hard enough to get a couple good prospects from the draft, try doing it without a 2nd round pick.
