  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) KW doesn't know which direction to go. Rebuild or play for this season? What's the point of developing guys if you never use them? When you lose 90+ games with vets who are past their prime and you have a bloated payroll; the last thing you do is trade your top 2 mlb-potential arms for a guy who - granted, is a good player - is not a solution to your age/payroll problems. He should have dumped Contreras, Dye, Konerko and Thome and rebuilt. I can handle a future of 3 or 4 years of 90 losses if you are making a considered effort to rebuild, but KW is not. agreed.
  2. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) yeah man, i wish we had owens back in the lineup for some nice singles. where did I say I wanted Owens? I'd much rather have Swisher then Owens... but I'd rather have a real farm system and a team that actually had some upside past 09.
  3. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) miggy cabrera k'd 127 times last year...HE SUCKS well, he also hit .320 with an OBP of 401, with 34 homers and 119 RBI's... quite a big difference there bub.
  4. so, what's our lineup? 1. Cabrera, SS 2. Swisher, CF 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Fields, 3B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Quentin, LF 9. Richar/Ramirez, 2B looks like we will live or die by the home run, once again.
  5. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Because our SP is horrendous. and Santana would really improve our rotation... not.
  6. With Swisher we maybe beat out the Royals and Twins for 3rd place... but our rotation and bullpen suck, and our offense is just filled with power hitters who K a lot (but we did add a little extra OBP!!!!!!!) If we actually had a chance at competing, I would like this trade, as I think Swisher is a good player... but we just f***ed our selves up big time for the future as we have no farm system and don't have any future replacement for Konerko or Thome.
  7. fun fact, the A's have, if they were still on this team, our 5 best prospects. Gio, DLS, Cunningham, Carter, and Sweeney.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I'm thinking the Sox will take the best collegiate pitcher available with the #8 pick. I'm going to hope the San Diego pitcher falls to them. I don't care anymore. With this organization, we will pass up the most talented player for the "safe" pick. Man, would it be nice to have Porcello now instead Arron "I'm gonna throw my arm out" Poreda.
  9. I'd bet my left nut that Contreras is WAY over the hill and will do nothing significant in the MLB ever again, and will be our worst pitcher next year...
  10. everyone say hello to our top prospect... That's right, Jack Egbert... I like Eggy, but when he's your top prospect, your farm system truly sucks.
  11. I like Swisher and all, but I don't see how this move makes us contenders for next season. Our rotation still blows, and our bullpen has added overrated s*** face Linebrink. big whoop. We get another power hitter who at least knows how to take a walk, but we completely destroyed our farm system. If we don't make the playoffs next year, Kenny Williams must be fired, because he f***ed this team up big time for the long term.
  12. great, another guy who K's 100+ times a season.
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:12 AM) I also see myself patenting an invention that allows a person to s*** bricks of gold. sounds painful... but with the way the gold market it now, it'd be worth it.
  14. writers or no writers, Conan is funny as hell... that is all.
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) He threw over 200 innings last year. Why would you move him? The absolute only thing that will force Kazmir to the bullpen is health. Or a moron of a GM/manager I didn't say I would, I just said I see it happening eventually.
  16. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) You have to love the statements that come out of nowhere, have no information to back them up, and are just plain ridiculous. He throws too many pitches and fades around the 5th or 6th inning, leading me to believe if he can't get his pitch count under control, it may be better to move him to the pen and have him as a dominate closer.
  17. I think Kazmir will eventually have to make a move over to the Pen.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) I'm not sure Taveras is a "much better addition than Crisp". Looking at his career numbers, minors and majors, through 2006, he looks no better than what Owens will give you offensively. 2007 was a big year for him though - was it a fluke, or is that the real deal? If he hits like he did in 2005-2006, or like most of his minor league numbers indicate, then offensively he's no better than Owens. Defensively, look at Taveras' 2007 CF stats compared to Owens (they played an almost identical number of games)... On FPct, Owens is .991 and Taveras .982... On range (RF), Taveras has an edge: 2.76 to 2.65... on ZR Owens is well ahead at .896 over .823. The arm thing though... Owens' 1 assist to Taveras' 7 seems to make Willy's arm a lot better. But I haven't seem Taveras play except a handful of times - anyone have any comments on his arm? It looks to me like Taveras is probably slightly better than Owens defensively, mostly due to his arm. Basically, its a question of career trend, just like with Crisp. With Taveras, is 2007 the real player he has matured into? Or is 2005-2006 what we'd get? Willy T has a real good arm from what I remember.
  19. I have liked Taveras since he came up w/ the Astro's and would not mind having him on our team one bit... pending on how much it would take to get him of course. I would be able to live with a Owens/Taveras combo in CF, with Taveras getting most of the PT. Actually, I wouldn't have a problem with either Crisp of Taveras, both are very similar except that Taveras is 2 years younger and faster, but Crisp is the better hitter and a switch hitter.
  20. hope she's alright and everything turns out good! I have heard of cases where babies forget to breathe when they sleep and this might be one of those...
  21. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Reading the ball off the bat is completely diffrent then seeing it out of a pitchers hand. And it isnt something you can teach, you either have that ability or you dont.It is a matter of inches and mila seconds at 3rd base and that ability is very important. You see the ball, you field the ball, period. Stop giving us all this crap about him never going to be a good 3B because he "can't see the spin of the ball of the bat". That is a load of bull.
  22. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) You should all just give up and agree that Joe Crede is the man at 3B!!! No, he isn't... Did I miss when Joe Crede became the best player ever?
  23. awesome stuff, can't wait!
  24. wouldn't it be nice if Prior returns to form and just dominates?
