  1. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) Some people are happy unless they can be miserable with a move the Sox made. I'm not miserable, I just think it would be a whole lot wiser to have held onto Aardsma. I wasn't expecting him to make the team, but perhaps he surprises and actually makes the team or he had a good spring training and could actually get us something for him via trade.
  2. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) And it would have made absolutely zero difference. Who the f*** cares about David Aardsma? I'd rather keep a guy who has a good arm still with some potential over some crappy A ball catcher or some fat shortstop who can't even hit his weight.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 11:16 PM) Your concern for Buehrle puzzles me. He's been great his entire career, has a bad season, rebounds with another great season, throwing a no-hitter in that time, and you think he might post a 4.5+ era? Take his late season struggles with a grain of salt. He had nothing to play for post-season wise, got his contract, and had a kid during the season. Give him a break. He's a real person too. Did I say he would? But if he opens 2008 the same way he finished up 2007, it will not be a good season for him. I think it's quite reasonable for me to have some concern. And yeah, give him a break? What the hell are you talking about? I didn't do anything but show concern. I didn't say he sucked or is a worthless baseball player. Plus, I don't he needs breaks from anyone, after all, he is making millions of dollars to play a game most of us pay to watch.
  4. We could have kept him if Armstrong wasn't on the 40-man for some mysterious reason or if KW didn't idiotically give Uribe 4.5 million.
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Please give MacDougal away. Yeah, that'd be quite stupid.
  6. To be honest, the only pitcher I am banking on for us to be at least decent (ERA less then 4.5, not get knocked around every other time out) is Vazquez. Buehrle, maybe, but he has to show me he has made some changes from late last season. We really need one Floyd and/or Danks to step up big time. At this point, I'd MUCH, MUCH, MUCH rather have Garland over Cabrera.
  7. QUOTE(R.J. @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) 1. Erik Bedard is worth so much more than Bobby Jenks, price tag included. 2. If put on the market tomorrow, Bobby Jenks would be the third best closer available (Joe Nathan, Huston Street). This move is to get a quality set-up man to take the ball from our quality middle reliever (Linebrink) and give it to our quality closer. If you think that's worth more than $5 million, then Dotel is a fine bet. It's a lot of money to spend on a relief pitcher but jesus, if Brett Tomko is worth $3 million then Dotel is certainly worth 5. You couldn't be farther from the truth... Street can't stay healthy and he has the worst stuff of the 3. Nathan, is probably better, but is soon to be a FA and is nearing his mid 30's. Jenks on the other hand is still pre-arb and has good stuff (great if he can get his fastball back up to the high 90's, but even in the mid 90's, he's shown he can get people out). Plus, he showed he can be a top closer in the league. It'd take more then Jenks, but not a whole lot more to get Bedard.
  8. Overpaid (unless there are incentives we don't know about), but I like the signing in general. I have always been a big fan of Dotel's, and if healthy, he can be a top SU man.
  9. QUOTE(Hawkfan @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) 86 is fine for buehrle, 88 89 is the usual speed, but that small of a drop you can't be worried about. When he was hitting 91 92 he got shelled and i remember he took some off for more precision with the strike zone. He's young, he's a competitor, and arms get sore a lot, so I think he'll be back in a good way. I disagree. He got knocked around in 06 because he was laying meatballs over the plate consistently. 86 from 89-90 is quite a drop off.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) Quentin hit 9 home runs in his first stint in the big leagues in about 160 ABs. If he's healthy, he's not only hitting "13". Fields hit 23 in 373 ABs. 28 I could buy, but that pretty much assumes he doesn't improve at all next year and hits some major sophomore struggles. I could see less for Fields, unless he learns how to hit fastball.
  11. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Other than power, $, and arm strength, I don't see what Patterson does that is superior to Owens who has improved each year when he was in the minors and during his second stint here. You can stick Patterson in all 3 outfield spots. Owens can only play 1, maybe 2. My dog has a better arm then him.
  12. Patterson is better then Owens due to the fact he can play much better D and actually get an extra base hit once in a while... but I wouldn't want Patterson as anything more then a 4th OF.
  13. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) Sisco, Aardsma Aardsma is out of options... I can see Massett making the team over Wasserman just because Massett is out of options.
  14. QUOTE(2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 11:25 PM) i just found it interesting that the sinker wasnt listed on here. whats going on with this guys now-a-days, hes intrigued me outta all the guys ive read about. wheres he gonna start the season at? about how many years before he hits the bigs?....i just started looking at this section of sox talk and i like it, good job fellas. I thought that his fastball just has a natural sinking action...
  15. QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) So the Mets took a pass on him due to health reasons (the METS of all teams), he likely won't be ready until a month or two into the season (or more), he's not a lock to be successful by any means, and he wants more than a one year deal? Why do people want him again? Because he won a bogus Cy Young a couple years ago?
  16. I might be in the minority here, but I am very worried about Buehrle next season. The final two months last season, Buehrle was terrible. He couldn't even hit 86 with his fastball. Now, he's never been a flamethrower, but he used to be able to consistently hit 89-90. Plus, he needs to make some adjustments with his stride, it was too short late last season.
  17. CL: Jenks SU: Linebrink SU: Thornton SU/MRP: MacDougal SU/MRP: Dotel LOOGY: Logan ROOGY: Wasserman I could live with a pen of that.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) When you have Contreras, Danks and Floyd in your rotation, an insurance policy certainly wouldn't hurt. Colon most likely is done but if you can sign him on the cheap, I see no reason why you shouldn't. Like you said, he is likely done. Why sign him in the first place? I'd rather take a CHEAP chance on Haeger, Broadway, etc. over Colon.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) The earliest Garcia is supposed to be back is after the All-Star break. He and Colon would both be wastes of money...
  20. I'm shocked that people actually want the fatass, over-the-hill Colon back. I think I'd rather take my chances with someone like Garcia over Colon.
  21. I'd take a couple C prospects just to get some bodies for the farm.
  22. For all the MacDougal haters, believe it or not, but Mac probably has the best stuff in the pen, or at least the 2nd best, depending on how Jenks is pitching. Second, if healthy, Dotel will be better then Linebrink, but right now that is a big if. 11 million over 2 years for Dotel would be quite the stupid risk to take so I'm not surprised that this is now just a rumor. If we do sign to a more realistic contract though, I'm all for this move.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) At least for now...that Santana dude is. Bedard is a FA after 09. I didn't mention Santana since odds are he will be traded and his new team would sign him before he opens the market.
  24. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) I'd rather go after Bedard. Isn't he going to be an FA soon? I would think he has at least 2 more years of arbitration left...
