Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
BearSox replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Why trade for someone we just acquired for a front line starting pitcher? Uribe may go, but I'd rather see him stay as a super IF sub. Maybe the fact he was bounced from the starting job will give him some incentive to improve with the bat and lose weight? If this team had no desire to sign Cabrera long term than we would have been better off keeping Garland. originally, the Cabrera trade was made in thought that we would be also getting Miguel Cabrera and/or Torii Hunter... at least thats my understanding of it. -
QUOTE(scenario @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) Here's an interesting player I learned about while looking up info on Sergio Miranda... Jared Bolden - Miranda's teammate at VCU He plays 1B and OF. Not sure where he'll rank, get drafted, etc., but appears to be an excellent hitter and fielder. Here's an excerpt from the article linked above... "The season is still over two months away, but the recognition is already starting to roll in as junior first baseman Jared Bolden was named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List, released late least week. Bolden, a first-team All-CAA performer last year, finished last season with a team-leading .383 batting average, with 18 doubles, five triples and five home runs, along with 49 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. Even more impressive was his defensive prowess as the first baseman committed just two errors all of last season." Looks like a decent prospect, but not someone worth the 8th overall pick... if he's there in the 3rd round however, I got no problem with a selection of him.

Sox Interested in Roberts?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) I thought I read somewhere that the player has to be named within a certian amount of time, and there wouldn't be enough time for the 2007 picks to be involved in that. well, a draftee can't be traded until after 1 year after they've been signed I believe, and Poreda was one of the first to be signed, so if we were to deal him as a PTBNL (has to be named within 6 months I believe), then he could be included in a deal sometime in January. -
if he can learn how to catch up the fastball, he can be a very dangerous hitter...

well, isn't the suppossed Cubs offer Murton, Gallagher and Patterson? I think we can match that... -
The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal

Still would like to see someone else brought in to be able to play CF... -
To anyone who would have wanted a Gio or DLS trade for Hamilton, that would be stupid as f***. The common cold could place Hamilton on the 15 day DL, imagine if he got the flu or something... he has no immune system after heavy drug abuse. Plus, what happens after he gets a couple million or so from some team? He could easily, even though I hope it won't happen, start doing drugs again. I wouldn't mind him as a secondary piece in a trade, but I wouldn't trade one of the two better pitching prospects in baseball for him.

Lets just bring Andrew Jackson back from the dead... he'd settle this. -

could they be deported or something? How would that work? -
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Yeah - great comparison. So, are you implying with your sarcasm that Coolidge was not one of the best presidents of all time?
-
think to yourself, what is more important... a no. 3 starter who was entering his prime, or a 33 year old shortstop coming off what could be considered a career year? Now, they were both free agents at the end of the season, but I still believe we could have gotten a couple pretty good prospects for Garland rather then someone who we will have for a last place season. This move was, at best, a lateral move... I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Garland have his best season since 05 and Cabrera go back to his career norms of a .270 average and an OPS of 720.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) Great post - way to go. I'm a man of a few words... kinda like Calvin "Silent Cal" Coolidge, one of our contries greatest presidents.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Konerko, Dye, and Pierzynski are all pretty bad contracts. Tolerable, but not preferred. wtf are you smoking? 5 years, 12 million a year. How the f*** is that a bad contract?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) Lost me with that first sentence. That trade was one of the better ones I've seen Kenny make. It was exactly what the team needed. No, it wasn't...

I'd consider this offseason a good one if KW finally concedes defeat and goes into rebuilding mode.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) Wow, and you actually question KW's judgment? What's that suppossed to mean? I'm not very high on pitchers who no longer can hit 90 and who's stride is too short. Plus, Votto is a beast.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) Buehrle for Hamilton, Votto, and Cueto....count me in! Hamilton and Votto would be enough for me.
-
so, on fridays will he replace one of the two or just join them? EDIT: Also, Stoney has it pretty damn sweet.
-
Call me stupid, but I'd rather keep Javy over Buehrle...
-
Also, I really hope KW wakes up and realizes this team needs a REBUILDING!
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Yes he does. Doesn't mean he wouldn't approve a trade to get out of here though. Who knows what his feelings are now? You bring up a good point... KW was talking about Miguel Cabrera and Torii Hunter when he convincing Buehrle and Dye to resign, and all he has gotten is Orlando Cabrera, Carlos Quention, and traded one of Mark's good friends (at least I thought they were) in Jon Garland... he could be pretty discouraged and want out.
