  1. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) Alot of that has to do with 1) their ballpark; and 2) their financial constraints. Say what you want about the offensive philosophies of the two organizations, but the reason Minnesota wins this division consistently is because of their ability to develop solid, cheap young pitching. The reason they win is because of starting pitching and their bullpen far more than them having "slap" hitters. Certainly they encourage some players to hit down on the ball and leg out singles, but that's because of their ballpark and the fact that they cannot normally afford to sign players who have been great run producers through free agency. That's even more emabarssing. We spend 100 milion on a team and a team that doesnt come close to what we spend wins the division 5 out of 6 years. The reason Minnesota wins every year is because they are fundamentally a better club than we are year in and year out. Pitching, defense, situational hitting eberything they do an a ballfield is superior to what we do, except of course THE LONG BALL!! They develop players that play the game right and play the game hard. Like I said, they won the division 5 out of 6 years, they gotta be doing something right.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) Yep, let's play smallball while we play in a launching pad. We can keep giving up outs with bunts in the first inning, and then the opposition will get that one run back by hitting the next pitch of the inning for a home run. The Twins are the same organization that made a terrific power hitter, David Ortiz, be a slap hitter. Like I said, of course we need homerun hitters, but not every f***ing player in the lineup swinging from their heals. We played smallball in the first half of 2005 and look how good we did, and I think we stillplayed in the same park as we do now?? Yep I checked we still do!!
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) Hasn't that always been a problem with them? Wasn't it last year when Ozzie got so pissed off that he took some out to show them how to bunt? It is ridiculous when Uribe, Pods, Brian Anderson, and even Iguchi can't get down a bunt. I mean I thought Japanese players are supposed to be very sound fundamentally. Do we have the only one that can't play defense or bunt consistently? What you say may well be true and good, but what do you think the change with the major league hitting coach is going to do? Doesn't it seem to be an organizational thing to you? That is a change that should be made from A ball on up, not something that should be learned at the major league level. Don't you think? You are right though - who the hell knows - but some people seem to think that they do know. All those people seem to be posters on this board. The whole orginazation needs to be restructured, from A ball to the big leagues. The whole philosiphy needs to be changed and geared more toward like the Twins. We have been a homerun or nothing franchise for too long now. We need to structure our teams like the Minnesota. Starting pitching, relief pitching, defense and slap hitters and bunting. Sure you need homeruns, but not to the point where it's homerum or nothing. You have to be able to score whether you hit homeruns or not. The Twins have won the Central 5 out of the last 6 years. We need to follow what they are doing they gotta be doing something right.

    QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) He is slower than Uribe? I don't buy that. G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG Uribe 44 146 14 31 4 0 5 21 50 12 38 1 0 .276 .342 .212 Vizquel 51 190 22 44 8 1 0 14 54 13 23 3 3 .283 .284 .232 I just don't see how he would improve this team. And he plays in a weaker league. Tading for him would be a move backwards, not forward.

    QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Exactly. Firing coaches and Gms are what Cub fans hope for and think will change everything and make everything right. Pinella is in for Baker and the same s*** is happening. When you have the same types of players and bring in the same type of players as before your team will remain the same no matter what manager or coach you bring in. The theory of getting rid of a coach or blowing everything up just for the sake of doing so is riduclous nonsense and very silly. These people are all playing fantasy baseball. All my players are up for trades and available to the highest bidder. The only four untouchables I have are Buehrle, Jenks.... That just looks ridiculous and reeks of unintelligence. It sounds like a plan a teenager (sorry to stereotype) may have. Someone that thinks they know everything about everything, but actually knows nothing about anything. What looks riduculous is this team, and what reeks of unintelligence is our hitting coach, manager, and GM. Anyone who think this team will even sniff coming close to the playoffs, now that is ridiculous and reeks of unintelligence. At some point people have to be held accountable for their actions. It's just the way life is. If you have a job, and you f*** up at it by not doing your job for over 2 months then most likely, you get fired. That's just the way it is. So since this team has been playing like s*** since last july, then I think it's time for people to be held accountable. As for people who don't agree, hey that's fine. I have no problem with that. But to start saying people are not intelligent or sound like teenagers, when they are just expressing their opinion, then to me that's ridiculous and unintelligent.
  6. There's enough blame to go around. Everyone should be held accountable, players, coaches, manager, and GM, and everyone in between.

    QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) What's with all this Vizquel bulls***? His name has been mentioned numerous times over the past week and it makes no sense at all. He's 40 years old and producing like he's 40, yeah that .552 OPS is f***ing hot. The guy is a lesser player than Uribe at this point in his career and will be a free agent at the end of the season, talk about a terrible fit. I'm with you. I don't understan the Vizquel love. Just what we need someone to make this team older and slower!!

    QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) I'm not comparing the team to Cleveland. I'm using your overreaction as an example as why reasonable and knowledgable Baseball people don't just "Blow a team up" when they are playing bad for less then a year. Your theory is still silly. Keep only four players?!? Well I'm sure alot of people on here would rather do that, than continue to watch a bunch of overpaid pieces of s***. Maybe our future would look a little brighter than it does now. Cause with the division we are in, and the talent we have in the majors and the minors, we are gonna be f***ed for a long time to come. We need to rebuild. It's as simple as that. We need to get more talent into the minor league system as well.

    QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) I love these posts... KW Gone? Ozzie gone? Cooper should have been gone a LONG time ago?? When...when they were winning the World Series a year and half ago? LMAO Talk about reactionary piddle. Yes this team is playing bad, but if you think your methods are right...Whew, you live in a fantasy world. Let's put your theory to a test. Let's say a certain team that has talented players with a history of very good years and a good coaching staff with a history of winning had a bad season and they took your advice and "blew up their" team. That team would not be leading the AL central right now. aka Cleveland Indians. Feel smart now? Didn't think so. Injuries have plagued this team. Age is a factor. It is time for some changes, but to fire everyone and trade everyone is stupid. This team is Old and bad. That's what it comes down to. I understand they won a World series in 2005, and nobody was happier than me. But in all honesty I am starting to think it was just a magical year and we got extremely lucky. Since July of last year this team has looked like s***. Period. KW put this team together, and it isn't a good team. In fact IT SUCKS!! He's a smugass f***, who sold this team short and he deserves to go. You can't compare us to Cleveland, cause they are alot younger than us ALOT!! As for blaming injuires, they are part of the game last time I checked, so to use that as an excuse is stupid. Losers use that as an excuse, winners man the f*** up and play through it. This team doesn't suck because of injuries, it sucks cause they are old, and the GM f***ed up.

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Calm down. You're overreacting. While I do agree with you about Walker, there is no way we could fire Cooper, especially the way the starters have been doing. He can tell them and work with them all he wants, but he isn't the guy coming out of the bullpen and sucking it up out there. Walker, on the other hand, has no reason to still have a job right now. None of the player's approaches have changed. He'll probably mess up Owens and the rest of them too. I'm not overreacting at all. The last time I checked a pitching coach is also in charge of the pitchers coming out of the bullpen. And they aren't getting the job done. So he isn't getting his job done. You are missing my point anyway. I want everyone gone, start fresh. I would only hold onto Danks, Jenks, and Buehrle, but everyone on the offense, trade them away, and start fresh. And I mean everyone.

    LMAO

    Blow the whole team up. I'm sick of it all. They are embarassing. I wan't KW gone, Ozzie gone, Cooper and Walker should have been gone along time ago. Just rebuild the whole team. It would be more entertaining watching a bunch of kids play hard, than these overpaid assholes. Rebuild the whole f***ing team, including the minor league system.
  12. f*** THIS f***ING TEAM. THIS IS f***ING RIDICULOUS!!!! A BUNCH OF OVERPAID MOTHER f***ERS. 0-56 AGAINST f***ING RELIEVER, THE f***ING BULLPEN CAN'T SHUT A f***ING TEAM DOWN. f***ING 2 f***ING OUTS AND CAN'T f***IN GET A 3RD f***ING OUT WITHOU GIVING UP f***ING RUNS. TAKKE THIS f***IN TEAM KW, AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR f***ING ASS!!! I'VE NEVER f***IN BEEN SO f***INN PISSED OF ABOUT A f***IN TEAM THAN I f***IN AM NOW. I'G f***IN GET RID OF f***IN ALL OF EM. f***IN NO GOOD MOTHERf***ERS!!!!
  13. What the f*** is wrong with our bullpen!! This is getting beyond f***ing ridiculous!!
  14. Hawk is such a f***ing idiot. I like DJ, I wish they would get into it!!!
  15. Well there is your 1 run John. Make is stand. Knowing this offense they are gonna take the rest of the day off!!
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) So, who just quickly deleted anything bad they said after AJ's base running? I did, I said real f***ing smart you stupid motherf***er!!
  17. I wouldn't mind seeing a whole new offensive team. This team is so boering and predictable. It's just sickening!!
