QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:48 AM) If the Sox go on any kind of run, it won't matter what any of the pending free agent's trade value is at come the deadline because KW will be buying rather than selling which will only hurt this team for the immediate future (say 2008.) If you look at the Sox' bullpen, outfield and left side of the infield and think they can catch 2 outstanding ballclubs in Cleveland and Detroit then you're completely delusional. At this point how many players on the Sox' 25 man roster are superior to their counterparts on those of the Tigers and Indians? Well if they go on a run like I said at least 14-5 if not better, then why not go for it. Cleveland or Detroit isn't running away withthis division. Cleveland is 13 games over .500, and Detroit is 11 over. So to me no one is running away with anything. If we could have played at least .500, we would only be 6.5 out. I know we haven't played .500, I'm just using it as an example, to show no one is running away with this division. Sure Cleveland has a solid team, but they have their problems, and Detroit is solid, but I believe they are gonna fade off in the 2nd half. The Yankees have turned it around pretty quick in the last couple weeks, who says we can't do the same. Even if we only go 10-9 or 8-11 or whatever, maybe a few of these guys will increase their value. I just don't see the problem with waiting a few weeks and seeing if this team can go on a run. If they catch fire and go 16-3 or 17-2, then hell yeah I want KW to be a buyer and go for it all. If they don't, then there is still more than enough time to make deals. The trading deadline is July 31st, not June 31st. There will be plenty of time to trade people away if they can't turn it around in the next couple weeks.

More detailed article on the KW/Ozzie/PK meeting

What's the big deal if you give him until the all star break to see if these guys can turn it around?? What's another few weeks. Even if they don't turn it around, maybe some of these guys can get it going, and increase their trade value. I say let them see if they can turn it around in these next few weeks. The offense looks like it's coming around, give a few weeks and see wat happens. Maybe Konerko sees something in the team we don't get the opportunity to see just watching the from the stands. Who knows?? If it doesn't turn around by then, KW better go into seller mode. -
I'm just hoping that they get on some kind of run and make this thing interesting. I believe if the offense keeps scoring like it has the last few games, this team can turn it around in a hurry. For some reason I just think this team is gonna go on a big run, and get right back in this race. Maybe I am wrong, but even if they don't by the all star break, maybe they will play well enough to increase the value of some of the players they are looking to trade. Maybe Dye, Buerhle and Iguchi and whoever else can up their trade value in these 19 games before the break.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) 12 of the next 19 games the Sox play are against opponents with a superior record. I know that, but like I said, with the offense looking like it might be coming around I'm thinking we might get on a hot streak. We haven't had one all year yet, we are over due. Either way, I think KW is gonna wait for this stretch of games before he makes any decision about trading guys away. I'm just hoping we can get hot and make a run. At least make it a little more interesting.

We have 19 games left until the All Star break. 2 more with the Marlins 3 at home against the cubs 4 at Tampa Bay 3 at KC 4 at home with Baltimore 3 at home with the Twins Let's say we go 14-5, that would put us at 43-42 at the Break. It seems like the last few games the offense is starting to heat up, and with Pods and Erstad coming back hopefully soon, I think we have a chance to try to get back in this thing. I know I may sound crazy, but I really think they can go on a bit of a run before the break. So who's with me?? Anybody out there think we have a chance?? Let's get some positive energy going and turn this season around!!!

Aaron Cunningham Traded to Zona for IF Danny Richar

I thought Willie Harris was supposed to be the next Ray Durham when we got him. -
QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) OK, coaches dislike stupid questions. And, in sports, by far the stupidest question a member of the media can ask is, are you not going to try? "So what's your strategy...you just looking to lose again?" How dumb does that sound? If you're Don Cooper, how else do you answer that? I'm surprised the term he used was "jerkoff" and not "f***tard." Well to me the team looks like it doesn't care and is just going through the motions. Everyone has their own opinion. I respect yours, and expect you to respect mine.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 12:05 PM) One of the most talented teams? What is in the bullpen? SS Uribe, LF - nothing! CF - nothing! 2B - Iguchi. RF - OLD LOOKING DYE! 3B - rookie. Where do you see talent? How is this even close to the most talented team in the AL? It's not! I'm sure they weren't thinking the team would perform like this or that they would have the injuries that occurred - but guess what - they are and they did. This team is not what you thought they were. This is the best that they are - they are not better. I am sure evey player is trying their hardest to be better - unfortunately as a team they are not - this is it. You and the other Sox fans that think they aren't should look at it realistically and understand that. Where? When? So before the season you knew they were gonna be this bad?? You knew Dye was gonna look this bad after last year? Iguchi? Uribe? I see talent in the starting pitching. I see talent in Konerko, Thome, Dye, AJ, Iguchi. For you to ask where I see talent is ridiculous. There is talent all over this team, they just are playing like s***, and I truthfully believe they aren't playing hard. It's like they don't give a s***. Just going through the motions. It's been this way since last July, no heart and no intensity whatsoever. But to believe they were gonna be this bad before the season. I don't think anyone but Baseball Prospectus predicted this. I forgot about the bullpen. Our genius GM put that bullpen together himself. That was his baby. Did anyone know MacDougal was gonna implode? No. He has talent though. After the first month AArdsma was lights out, everyone was singing his praises, so he has to have some talent. Sisco sucks case closed there. Jenks, he is a stud. Logan as shown he can be valuable. Thornton has his moment, but he has talent. These guys have talent, it's just they aren't executing at all.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) It is not the question he asked - he made a statement about a team laying down. No matter how fans perceive it I am sure they are not laying down and that is a f***ed up thing to say. It was unprofessional and an instigating remark to make. He knew what he was doing when he said it. He is out for himself and only himself. He wants to see his name in the paper and his sound bites played around the nation. That is all he cares about. He is a freakin' jerk off and he deserved to be called that. How would you react if someone said that to you and your performance even though you were trying your best. How do you know ther is no fight or no heart - maybe this is the best this team is. Maybe that is all they have and all they can do. What you perceive by watching it on TV and from the stands is most likely not the case. How much better do you think this group of players can play? I think this is it. They can't play any better. This is the best they can do. We need better players. Listen, I'm just stating my opinion, and the opinions of some other Sox fans that I know. To me and them the team looks like it has no heart or fight in them. That's what I believe. Whether you choose to believe that is up to you. As for how much better I think this team is, there is no denying this is one of the most talented teams in the AL. They just aren't playing like it. I'm sure KW and Ozzie didn't think this team would perform like this. They are underachieving big time. They should be alot better than they are now, because right now they are flat out embarrassing!!

Does it even matter anymore. It can't get any worse that this. I don't understand how far this team has fallen since 2005??
-
I detest Juan Uribe like a sickness!!
-
I have no problem with North and this interview. He asked the question about what the plan is for the next couple series, and if the plan was to lay down. I have no problem with that question at all. I would have asked the exact same question in that situation. And I know alot of SOX fans feel the same. This team has layed down. There is no fight in them at all, no heart, nothing. I watch alot of baseball and in my eyes they are the worst team in baseball. They look like they are just going through the motions and collecting a paycheck. And I love the part where North says, "sorry for ruining your off day, but you guys have been ruining everyday for the fans" I love that. Call him and the whole team out, they deserve it for the way they attempt to play baseball.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) Fields 2-2, but Gooch leaves him twice in scoring position with 2 outs. Must be cold in Pittsburgh. "IT'S THE PERFECT STORM!!!"

I can't believe how far this team has fallen since 2005. WHAT THE f*** HAPPENED?? THEY ARE A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A BASEBALL TEAM AND AN EMBARASSMENT!!!!

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) When you have the Sox record, it more than just the hitting coach not getting the job done. Why is it you give Ozzie, KW and Cooper a pass? Trust me I'm not giving them a pass at all. I have said in other threads to get rid of them all. Time for a change in philosophy in this org. Our minor leaguers come up and look absolutely terrible at the plate. Like they don't have a clue. From BA to Sweeney to Owens to Fields all of them. I don't have confidence in any one we bring up. None of our prospects look like they will be even average major leaguers, and that falls directly on KW and the scouting and drafting we have done on the past years. I just believe it's time for a change, because the future doesn't look too bright for us.
-
I just don't get it. How a team that is tied for first place in their division can realize that their hitting coach just wasn't getting the job done, although they are in first. Meanwhile our GM let's a guy keep his job even though we have the worst offense in all the Majors. Someone has to be held accountable. Sure I would like the players to be held accountable, but in reality that isn't gonna happen.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) I don't know, I just can't see how anyone could have expected the Dodgers to do anything other than struggle to score runs this year. They scored a ton of runs with very little power last year, and their big additions were Juan Pierre and Luis Gonzalez, two players who were only going to make that problem worse. I mean, it looked to me like JD and the Dodgers were a good match before the season even started, because they were going to be so desperate for a few home runs at some point. I agree. I think if JD gets shipped out it will be to the Dodgers. I'm just not sure what KW has in mind for the Sox orginazation.
-
"Change is never easy, but sometimes it is necessary, and we feel that this is the best thing right now to help the team win," Dodgers manager Grady Little said in a club statement. "Our offense hasn't lived up to our expectations, and no one person is responsible for the results we've had this season. I have the utmost respect for Eddie Murray as a person and as a professional, and I wish him nothing but the best." The Dodgers have posted a .261 team batting average, sixth in the National League, with 288 runs scored, tied for seventh in the league. They're tied for 14th in home runs with 52, and they rank 15th in slugging percentage at .383. Makes you wonder how the f*** Greg Walker still has a job!!!

Whatever happens, this team needs a big shakeup!!! Pitching wise and offensively!!

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) I don't doubt that they play fundamentally better than the White Sox. In fact, they do so probably better than anyone in Major League baseball. And they have to, considering their financial constraints. I certainly wish some of our players were more polished in laying down bunts or moving runners over, etc. However, the fact is, we've won a lot of games over the past 5 or 6 years ourselves and the reason we have is because of the home runs. Unfortunately, we haven't had the bullpens the Twins have had over the years either. However, before you go out and buy your Twins jersey, they also haven't won many playoff series' under that philosphy. In the current era where $ spent is drastically different from team to team (the last 10 years or so?), we have 1 world championship to their 0, despite all those division titles. I don't know about you, but I'll take our result over theirs. I really don't care how many wins we have had the last 5 or 6 seasons. I judge a team on if they made it to the playoffs. You know what 90 wins a year gets you, but you don't make the playoffs?? A s***ty draft pick!! I judge a season on whether you get to the playoffs. My point is they are a better orginazation than us. Period. I think we need to model ourselves after them, as we did in 2005. KW and Ozzie have said that numerous times. Believe me I'd never buy a Twins anything, unless they were palying the Cubs in the World series. I was thrilled we won the World series in 05. Would trade it for anything. But I'm not one those fans where I will say, "well they get a pass for a few years cause they won". f*** that!! I want to win every year. Plain and simple. And they have won the central 5 out of the last 6 years. So I would try to do anything I could to build a club like they do.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) The Twins get players to come up and help them as the season goes on. Meanwhile, our core players always seem to tire, and then you get the dreaded "corpseball" efforts late in the season. Also, it helps when you can guarantee you'll win at least one game in a series against the Sox when you can put Santana on the mound. As for the pirahnas and their numbers, our numbers look just as bad as theirs. They hustle, they make you make plays on defense. They take what the pitchers give them, they don't try to take a pitch on the outside and try to pull it to left field. They just have better approaches when it comes to hitting. Maybe our hitters tire because they aren't conditioned properly, I'm just throwing that out there. It seems every year in the 2nd half we go into the tank. Every f***in year!! It's just this year we have carried it over from the 2nd half of last year and haven't come out of it yet. The Santana thing is a bunch of bulls*** too. I'm tired of just conceding a game to this f***in guy everytime we face him. It's ridiculous and embarassing. The last game we faced him we finally got to him , and our bullpen blows it. But everytime we face him our hitters take the" oh well it's Santana, let's just lay down and die" f*** that!! I'm sick of that attitude. Make some f***ing adjustments, you're making millions of dollars a year, Man the f*** up. Thiere are only 2 guarantees in life, and oosing to Santana every f***ing game isn't one of them.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) You think the Sox are going to win it every year? Why not. The Twins have won the division in 5 of the last 6 years. Just because we win a World Series, they get a pass. f*** that, I want to win at least our division every year. I like to win. I don't believe in losing, that's a loser's mentality to say " well we won a world series in 2005, so we can't win every year" Why not?? Just because they won the World series in 05 doesn't give them a pass in my eyes. I want a winner every year. 2nd place is the first loser, I don't care about the 90 games we won last year, bottom line we didn't make the playoffs, and that in my eyes is failure. I won't accept that, that's just the type of fan I am.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) They don't fade during the last two months of the season the way we have in about 4 of those 6 years. What's your point?? I take it as they are a better team.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) We had unbelievable pitching during the first few months of 2005. Our offense was horrible to start the year. Also, if I recall correctly, it was colder than normal for a longer period, which made the park less lively. We're a high payroll team.....we don't need to be worried about having 5 piranhas in our lineup. But our offense played more smallball in the first half of 2005. Pods would get on, steal 2nd, Iguchi would get him over, and then we would drive him in. If I remeber correctly, KW and Ozzie said it themselves that they put that team together based on the TWINS. They said that more than once all throughtout the year in 2005. As for not wanting to have 5 piranhas in our lineup, welp, those pirahnas took it to us in that last series in Minnesota. I'd rather have couple piranhas than what we have now in Uribe, Crede.
