Mike North didn't lob softballs to White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper during a Thursday morning interview on WSCR-AM 670. He fired high and tight.

 

North: "Now what's the plan of attack for the next two or three series? Just lay down and basically do what you guys have been doing?"

 

Cooper: "Yeah, that's it, [goof]. We're going to lay down. We're going to lay down."

 

After Cooper said he and his pitchers would continue to work hard to improve, North cut him off: "Yeah, the lip service. … Hey, sorry. You're 3-18 (actually the Sox are 3-15 since May 27). What do you want me to do? I'll kiss your [butt], how's that? … You're a great pitching coach. Your team's great, Don."

 

Cooper: "Ask me a question."

 

North: "I asked you a question. You called me a [goof]."

 

Cooper: "You are a [goof] for saying we're going to lay down."

 

North: "That's what it looks like. What do you want me to do? OK, you're not laying down. You [stink]."

 

Cooper: "Right now at this minute, we do [stink]. You're right."

 

After North asked about the relief corps, Cooper said lefty Matt Thornton had thrown a "stupid 0-2 pitch" to Aaron Rowand,who cranked it out for a grand slam Wednesday.

 

Said Cooper: "We're disappointed, we're frustrated, we're ticked. But what can you do? You have to keep fighting as opposed to laying down."

 

The interview ended on a somewhat conciliatory note, with North saying: "I'm sorry to ruin your off day, but your team has been ruining ours every day so far this year. So you understand, don't you?"

 

"Yeah, I understand," Cooper replied.

 

I wonder what he called him. s***head?

Actually I ripped Ozzie for what he said and the reason for calling when that whole thing happened with North.

 

Correct me if i'm wrong, this sounds like a planned interview that Cooper does for the sake of North's show, and this is what he got.

 

He could have done without whatever swear word he had in there, but this isn't near Ozzie level in many different ways.

Seriously though, North is absolutely trying to provoke people now. Who the hell asks a coach if his team is going to lay down the next three series' and not expect to get a sh*tty answer back? From the transcript, it appears Cooper handled it extremely well.

 

It's devastatingly clear that the coaching staff of this organization is absolutely as befuddled and angry about their play as we are. We see it on their faces every game and hear it in their voices in every interview. Asking them if they are planning on laying down is a pretty bs question.

 

Now if you want to ask Jermaine Dye if he plans on laying down....that's another thing.

He did nothing but try to start another fight the same way he did with Ozzie.

 

He could of said "It looks like the team has been laying down as of late. What can you do to get them motivated?" Or "Some fans are grumbling that this team looks like they have quit. Do you feel as though that is the case to some degree?"

 

THOSE, are valid questions. Asking the pitching coach, whose starting staff has been solid, if the team plans on laying down over the next 10 days is absolute bs.
