Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
alk3kevin replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know...ZIPS was pretty optimistic on Chone, but I don't think he'll come close to a .350 OBP. -
Shoota, care to explain why Garland is a better pitcher than Garcia or Vazquez? Freddy/Javy/JG are all around the same quality, but at least Garcia and Vazquez have had sustained success. Jon had one good year, and the rest have been brutal. Please, no one ever enter wins into a discussion about pitching quality ever again.

If you have the chance to land a young SP like Santana, you don't move him for Crawford. Having Brandon and Santana in the rotation would be wonderful. We'd also be able to deal another one of our overrated SP. I'll take Fields and Freddy for Macier and Santana.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) I hope Kenny only deals for proven and effective pitchers, starting and relieving. By the way, anyone know the most innings BMac has logged in a season? Seems like he's a prime candidate for an August fade. We need a couple of high ceiling, young starters.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Juan Pierre or another veteran wouldn't surprise me. This team has it's last best chance at another ring in 2007. With Thome and Contreras's age and several big time contracts coming up (Crede, Buehrle, Dye, Garcia) the group will probably not stay together much longer, even under the best circumstances. They have to go with a guy they know can do the job, not guys they hope can do the job. Even if they go with the kids (platoon Sweeney and Anderson) out of spring training, I don't see them sticking with either if they struggle, KW will get a journeyman like a David DeJesus or Reed Johnson type who can field the position adequately and won't kill the lineup like last year. As Ozzie likes to say, 'this isn't the Arizona Fall League'. David Dejesus has played for one team. He is VERY good, and VERY cheap. Dayton Moore will not let him go. Reed Johnson has played for one team. He had a good season. He is not a journeyman. And the Ozzie quote: that is why some think he is a total jackass. Playing worthless veterans over young guys is stupid.

USA TODAY BASEBALL WEEKLY TRADE SUGGESTION
alk3kevin replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(soxfan72 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Screw AROD! He is the epitomy of what is wrong with modern baseball. Head case and he makes about U$20,000,000 too much each year X 10! Let the Cubs & Lou have him. His head shrink fees must be amazing. Why can't ALL baseball fans see & understand how and why these human knuckheads are making too much money, especially this guy. Case in point: Aramis Ramirez takes pop ups off the head right in the Cub logo and can't find it in his heart to hustle to first base! Won't play out his contract? Where the hell was he for the first 3 months last season. Let's see what GM sucker signs that piece of crap! ARAM is a piece of sh**. Joe Crede = bad back & best 3rd baseman in baseball! I'll take both of those lazy scumbags over Joe. -
USA TODAY BASEBALL WEEKLY TRADE SUGGESTION
alk3kevin replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) current issue lists five suggested trades. First on the list is Freddy, Crede and Broadway for ARod. Suggests the guy the Yankees really want is BMac, but the sox think he can be a top of the rotation starter. A Rod wasn't that much better than Crede last season. No way he's worth two pitchers, plus Joe. here is the link: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/2006-11...ed-trades_x.htm Not true. Look it up. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) There is zero chance terrero makes this team. Care to explain why?
-
The Cards probably aren't interested in trading for him now, they know they can have him in 08, so why give up Reyes for him?
-
QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Tell that to the 2005 White Sox. Okay. And they'll agree with me and tell me that insanely good pitching wins championships. Not "good team baseball."
-
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) You guys are way too specific when it comes to these. Here are my grades: The 2006 Roster: F That's right. Baseball is a team game, they all didn't get it done, they didn't make the post-season...they all get F's. Baseball is not a team game.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) HAHAHAHAHAHA, yes lets value a lead off man by his OPS. Welcome to baseball kid. Seattle is going to need pitching, they have none. Mark Buehrle would be a good trading chip for them. Well, you're vastly overrating a lead off man if you're willing to give up 2 good pitchers and a solid prospect. It doesn't matter if he leads off, a package like that should net BIG TIME talent. Couldn't we acquire a lead off man with a BETTER OBP for less? It seems sensible.

Ichiro is simply not worth it. If we're going to throw those types of players around in a deal, we better get something back better than a 32 year old with a .786 OPS the last two seasons.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 06:03 PM) The Cubs got the One Dog when he was about 35 years old. When he was 33 he had a spectacular year with the Mets. He hit .333 with 21 triples and 50 steals. Pierre is 29 or 30. I think he would do very well for the White Sox for a couple of years. Offensively, his drawback is that he rarely walks. He gets a lot of hits, he steals, he can handle the bat, and he's probably as fast as anyone in baseball. He also runs down the line, something very few White Sox do. He wouldn't be my first choice as an addition, I just don't think people would really be regretting the Sox signed him next July. Juan Pierre career OBP .350 Scott Podsednik OBP for 2005 WS champs .351. People around here actually considered Pods an MVP candidate in 2005. Pierre's inability to get on base is greatly exaggerated. Pierre's OBP is heavily driven by his BA. His walks have declined heavily the last four seasons, and his career IsoD is .47. There are cheaper options who could produce better than Pierre (Ryan Sweeney anyone?).
-
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) Really? "garbage" Nice. yes, considering the salary he will garner, he is garbage. He does not take pitches, does not drive in runs, does not get on base. Like stated earlier, we need guys to get on base so our 3-4-5 can drive them in.
-
Pierre isn't worth more than 2 million a year, and I want him nowhere near this team. If KW and Ozzie don't see eye to eye on baseball, KW needs to axe him, not compromise his interests by signing garbage like Pierre.
-
Even if we don't get AROD, it seems like Joe is on his way out if they don't get a deal done. I'd explore any and all options to get prospects and a SS.
-
QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 07:39 AM) Pujols and Jeter. And I personally would rather have alot of other players on my team then Arod.Sizemore,Mauer,Miggy to start. Career OPS+ AROD: 145 Jeter: 123 Mauer: 128 Miggy: 141 Sizemore: 126 Pujols: 171

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) How can anyone be wrong who has an opinion about baseball? Do we need go get out our resumes? Yes I played the game. Yes I follow the White Sox closely and have for a long time. When your opinion is built around something as flimsy as AROD being a loser, you can be wrong. I don't give a damn if he's a loser, I'll take him everyday of the week. Labeling a player as a winner/loser is as useless as arguing about baseball who subscribes to old school, conventional ideas.
-
Crawford is not the ideal leadoff hitter. KW can't afford to give up the cheapest, youngest pitcher we have. I'd much rather get Brady Clark/Ryan Freel/David Dellucci if we keep Mac.
