White Sox vs. Indians, 4/14/07 (L)
alk3kevin replied to ShoeLessRob's topic in 2007 Season in Review
f*** you Erstad you piece of s***. f*** you Ozzie. f*** you KW, should have avoided Erstad like the plague. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) what right do you have to say Brian Anderson is skilled, he hasn't proven that at the big league level yet (cuz he of course has not had the proper opportunity to do so) I'd bet that if he was given the opportunity to start, he'd outperform Erstad by a wide margin in terms of OPS.

I want absolutely no part of Ichiro. Decent hitter, but he's on the wrong side of his career and will cost too much. -
BA needs to be in Charlotte.
-
You're right---just checked the stats---1.115 OPS wtf

I'm not concerned about SB or aggressiveness if we still have a 3-4-5 as overpowering as it is right now. -
Huh? He's getting a lot of seeing eye and bloop singles. I understand he's had some hits but if the Sox are really committed to him in CF they might want to give him a day/AB off.
-
I just found it incredible that there was a tough lefty up in the eighth and Ozzie didn't even give Brian an AB. Get his ass in Charlotte if you're not going to play him. I understand it worked out in the end, but there was no reason not to give him an opportunity. If he's the CF of the future, He needs more than 1 AB every four games.

Gomez, Aybar, and Callaspo are all brutal offensively. Jacoby would be interesting, but I just don't see the Red Sox parting with him. -
Who would be the best starter of these 3?
alk3kevin replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What of that had anything to do with my post? What manager on earth would continue to stick with Erstad/Pods in the lineup, albeit at the top-despite viable replacements? Ozzie What manager would alienate his younger players in order to serve veterans that don't deserve playing time? Ozzie Who will hopefully be gone in one year or less? Ozzie And to answer your original question-I think Masset probably has the best chance of being a good 5 man. I kinda wish he would've earned the spot out of ST that way Danks could have some time in AAA -

If you actually read anything at BP, you would know that they too don't buy into the PECOTA projections for the White Sox. But with the division the Sox are in, and the horrid quality of our manager, I'd bet my house on 75 wins or less. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) If Baseball Prospectus actually likes ANYTHING connected with the White Sox, it makes me leery. Which is probably why I'm down on Haeger, because almost nothing they say is correct. In reality, you just assume the direct opposite of whatever they say. You are an idiot. That is the worst reason I have ever heard for, I don't know, anything. BP likes Charlie because he has dominated absolutely every level and has been an absolute freak at not allowing the longball. How many times have you read BP caulfield? I know that they're idiots for not seeing that freak, anomaly, once in a lifetime pitching WS season we had in 2005. But other than that, what evidence do you have for such ridiculously misleading, outlandish, and foolish statements? -
BP is a fantastic publication. If you read what they've written about the Sox, they too don't buy into what PECOTA projects. Here's a quote from Kevin Goldstein in an article about the White Sox- "PECOTA's current prediction is for the team to go 72-90, as the system expects an already old team to get a little bit older, and therefore more than a little bit worse. But a quick look at what went wrong in 2006 shows that in reality they only have to improve on one side of the field in order to get back to the caliber level of play from 2005. The key, as is often the case, is pitching."

Scott Miller of cbssportline also picks Sox 4th
alk3kevin replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I tend to think we're picked fourth because we suck. I'd rather be a good team and have people acknowledge that fact. -
Why on earth would anyone want Erstad within five miles of the top of the order?
-
Erstad hasn't proven s*** except that he's a terrible ballplayer.

3/19/07 - Kansas City vs. Chicago

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) But we know he's a great top of the order hitter, because he's done it before. He was a very important part of that juggernaut offense the LAA ran out there the last few years. Plus, Anderson's HR today shows he's swinging for the fences instead of generating productive outs like Ersty. BA needs some more time in AAA to learn how to play the game the right way. You must be joking. I don't even know how to respond. Forget hitting it hard/deep BA! Hit to the right side. -
QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Iguchi is a great hitter in the 2 hole, but by the same token Erstad is a helluva contact hitter. He strikes out considerably less than Gooch and, batting from the left side, may be able to avoid DPs with more ease. I think the problem is that we're looking at Erstad as this old, broken-down player instead of concentrating on the fact that the guy can handle a bat regardless of his age. His entire career has been based around being a great situational hitter, let's give him some credit for his accomplishments and the fact that he can STILL offer that ability to this team. I don't like the fact that he's pushing BA off of this roster, but he's here, let's use him as wisely as possible. He's best used very sparingly. Our manager is an idiot. I recognize his ability to contribute nothing positive as a regular.
-
Why don't they leave Gooch in the two hole and just let him play his game. Enough with the smallball.
-
if it goes pods erstad... ...i will boycott the white sox. screw ozzie and screw kw for the trash they're overrating.
-
I like BA, but I by no means think he's the greatest player ever. it's just it is absolutely ridiculous to have a player like Darin Erstad playing everyday. he has been so bad the last six years and now he is getting in the lineup because he's a grinder. one more ridiculous comment from ozzie/kw about grinders and my baseball allegiance may be up for grabs until they're both gone.
-
Everytime Erstad gets a weak cue ball single, I die a little on the inside.
-
QUOTE(MattZakrowski @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) It wouldn't be such an issue if the team around was young and up and coming, but we don't have time to groom a player in such a key position, we can win now. Yes, let's let the experienced CF get the ABs. Afterall, he's only been one of the worst offensive regulars in the game the last six seasons.
-
AHHH Erstad in LF will make me pull my hair out. Mack is such a better option.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) What if Erstad has a great season... like his 2000 (i think it was) season...? What if pigs fly?
