It would be nice to spare us a very public squabble. With so many good people on both sides of the aisle, I am surprised we can't do this more often.

Not to defend the cop in any way. But as I as watching this I wonder if the kid wasn't hoping for an encounter like this. The camera, his later explanation he was meeting a friend to retrieve his cell phone (who picks a deserted lot) just doesn't ring sincere with me. But, at worse, we have a citizen basically using the same tactics that the police use. He gave the officer a chance to make a mistake, and this cop took it. I will be very surprised if neither one of these people have previous experience doing this. Again, I am not defending the cop, maybe just making this kid a little less of a random, innocent, victim.

In all these cases, continuing research improves the processes, with greater and greater gains in efficiencies. To dismiss the technology based on the first or second draft or even the one hundredth is a mistake in some cases. Another note to Kap, I am wondering if you are looking at a different measurement. It is also true that there is more stored energy in one gallon of gas than one gallon of ethanol. I believe it is 1.2 to 1.

Are you factoring in the diesel to take then plastic to dumps further and further away from the source? How about the diesel on all the earth moving equipment needed to cover and maintain the landfills? As suburbs sprawl, we are traveling further and further to dump our garbage.

If energy consumption was the only factor, you are correct. Most plastic containers are not recycled into more plastic containers but in making textiles, plastic lumber, and other products where virgin material would not be as useful or economically friendly.

I believe most Americans believe then only good way to govern is by an election process that most will not participate in anyway. The irony of democracy. But perhaps, and I'd be interested in other opinions, a democracy in Iraq isn't the right place and time. Perhaps there is a time and place for an autocratic government. But with a sense of decency. Instead of "I hate your religion, you are dead" a "I hate your religion, you will never have a voice in this government, but you can live here without fear of reprisals". Still sucks to be them, but it sucks a little less.
