GM on strike
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 07:21 AM) Well early news in is that there has been a tentative agreement reached in the GM strike. One more thing I wanted to share is that I have seen the justification of Toyota and the like as they build cars in America, and pay American workers. Finally I found some numbers. If you include all compensation that both employees receive (wages, health care, pension, stock plans etc) the average Toyota worker makes $45 an hour. The average GM worker makes $73 an hour, when everything is factored in. I have asked before, and I will ask again, why is there no movement of people against Toyota, the way that there is against Wal-Mart. Really we are talking about the exact same business model and techniques. They both look for markets where they can under cut price and wages. They both are permanently removing higher paying jobs from the US. As a matter of a fact, looking at the numbers we should be more outraged at Toyota, because they are taking upper-middle class jobs (well heck upper class jobs according to some of the Dems) and replacing them with jobs that pay on average, with benefits included, about $60,000 LESS than the jobs they are offering. Where are the Stop Toyota campaigns? Where are the exposes on CNN? Where are the union protests? Why are they striking GM, when they should be striking Toyota? Seriously, I'd love to hear an explanation of why Toyota is immune. I would guess that the liberals would say Toyota is paying a living wage over the poverty line, while WalMart is not. Why aren't conservatives outraged?

Bill Wirtz Passes Away
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 07:02 AM) This is a hard one - from a personal standpoint, I pass my condolences on. From a business standpoint, good riddance, get the hell out, and let's hope that there's some business sense that comes to Chicago on running a real hockey team. We should add special condolences to the Sutter family. I wonder if Pulford got his head out of Bill's ass before he passed away? (is it too soon?)

The Perfect Boob!
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 06:38 AM) I didn't read the article, but I did look at the pictures provided. Find that kind of honesty about Playboy subscribers. But anyways, from what I could tell from the picture provided, the "not perfect boob" means "don't stand with your arms away from your sides". Whereas the "perfect boob" means "stand in a way so that you are pressing them together". Is that right? I mean, that's really the big difference in those two pictures. Look at the top, if it is fuller, more rounded, not as good* as a little less there, more of a tear drop. But with boobs, if you've seen one, you've seen them both . . . *According to the author of the study.

O'Reilly Accused of Racism
It is so tough to have a decent dialog when every word is parsed, every phrase examined, to see if it is 100% racism free. When we can look at the content of a man's soul and not the words he may unfortunately choose, we may have progress.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) And yet, when I post the exact same thing in the AG thread, I get ignored by everyone but Tex. That's easy Balta, anyone who attacks the ACLU for accepting unpopular clients should also be attacking here and anyone who defends the ACLU should also be defending here. That would be a consistent ethic. But instead there will be a whole lot of rationalizing why one is ok and the other isn't. As I posted before, I believe our system works best when everyone has access and with proper representation. In that forum, with both sides in a fair debate, goodness results.

New England Patriots...cheaters?
The NFL is all about team image. Unlike the NBA which has marketed their stars, the NFL likes to market their teams. This is on par with say a record setting slugger on steroids.

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) So that's disgusting, but still not nearly on the scale of torturing an animal for months or years. What is your point? My point was with so many people defending Vick, and they all aren't idiots and normally depraved, I tried to understand it, and couldn't. I looked for analogies and none of them fit, none of them reached the disgust level for harming domesticated dogs. I just couldn't seem to get in the minds of the predominantly black sports figures and entertainers who tried to offer an explanation. I looked at what I wrote and that seemed pretty clear

Iraq General Thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) It doesn't matter, that's what you people don't get. It WAS, and IS, and WILL BE, a part of the war on terror. Why is that SO hard to get? Why doesn't anyone want to admit that? Because it might make Bush partially right? It doesn't matter - it WAS a part of the war on terror, WMD's or not, because of the situation over there. The case was made VERY poorly, but it was a part of the larger war on terror. Period. Sure it was apart of the war on terror, we needed to get those WMD Now shall we debate if it serves our current needs to have our military stuck there without many forces to deploy elsewhere? I'd say absent of the WMD, it makes for an even worse case to invade Iraq. I don't see where this makes Bush (and I think it is wrong to give Bush all the credit or blame, but since he's your guy you want him to be "right") right, in fact I think it ultimately makes us wrong.

Buehrle to skip last start, Broadway will start Thursday
QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) This is because Buehrle killed a bear on his hunting trip with Thome, AJ and Dye, right? The deal was he gets a bear he gets to skip his start. Is that why Grossman isn't starting?

Reid declare potential AG 'unconfirmable'
I really do not have an issue with whomever an attorney represents in court. I believe our system works best when every defendant, ever last one of them, has a dream team of attorneys. No matter how despicable their client may be.

I do hope this isn't a one and your done move. He's got to be "the" guy for at least the month of October. It's going to take at least a week or two for his game legs to get under him. We can't judge him on his next 32 attempts.

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) This was never about "hunting" dogs. Forget the specific animal issue, that's not the point - its the way things were done. Hunting a bear, eating the meet and using the hide is being a carnivore. Its also not cruel, by most peoples' definition. What they did - torturing domesticated animals, subjecting them to all kinds of unnatural violence, then killing them because they were no longer of use - was disgusting. I guess you are not familiar with a form of bear hunting popular in the south. Basically let the dogs out at dusk and start drinking beer. Soon you will hear the dogs on the scent of a bear. Jump in your truck, follow the radio tracking on your dog's collar, and wait for the bear to be treed by the dogs, walk up to the tree with the bear stuck up there. Draw lots for who gets the kill, and blast away. http://www.smarthunter.com/newsletter/black_bear_hunting.htm Like I said, I found it disgusting, but interesting that so many people would come to his defense. I just don't understand it.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) You're seriously going to count the 32 sporadic attempts he had with the 2nd team last year? Howsabout we do complete seasons? 76-103-79-86-98 Fair enough. He hasn't played regularly in a couple years, and he's going to be so much better than Rex. I hope you are correct.
