Creation: God and the Devil Battle
In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives. Then using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?" And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman said, "and as long as you're at it, add some sprinkles." And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled. And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to size 14. So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast. God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof. God then created a light, fluffy white cake, named it "Angel Food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food." God then brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds. Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained pounds. God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonald's and its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super size them!" And Satan said, "It is good." And Man went into cardiac arrest. God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery. Then Satan created HMOs.

Illinois Smoking Ban Passes House
I was just reading in my local newspaper. Businesses that have gone smoke free have noted a decrease in days lost to illness. That could be attributed to a lot of factors, perhaps healthier employees prefer to work in smoke free environments, but it is interesting and provides a cost benefit to the employer.

Drilling around the US and picking up 2 or 3% of our needs, or reducing consumption? Seems like an easy choice.- Opie and Anthony Out for 30 Days
I'll bet Stern orchestarted* it . . . *my new word of the day.- Fred Thompson Chicken of Debate with Moore
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 16, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) I believe Thompson REPLIED to Moore, so there isn't anything for him to backup. Really, I thought Thompson was responding to the Treasury Department's investigation and used it as an opportunity to attack an easy target that would help Thompson with moderates and conservatives. Only the far left and loony tunes left cares about Moore and they would not vote for Thompson. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 16, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) That depends on how loose Mr. Moore plays with his facts in this film compared with his recent work. I think we can expect a less that scientifically valid film that will veer into fiction if it proves his point.- All Things Iraq, Except Nuke ;-)
My old buddy Wes sent me this . . .- May 15th "gas protest" nonsense
Isn't supply part of the equation? When the demand outstrips the supply, doesn't prices always rise? We are using oil faster than the earth can produce it. Basically the producers have X barrels to sell in their lifetime. Produce faster or slower doesn't change the amount they have to sell. Plus a lot of products work that way. High demand and suppliers can charge whatever they can and either make more by selling more, or make the same and sell less. As demand falls, or more suppliers get into the game, suppliers start lowers prices to milk the last bit of profit out of the venture. Then as they are the last supplier and anyone needing spare parts, new items, etc, the prices again start to rise, partly because of smaller production runs.- Build a Story with Lyrics

Let's write a story class. Only rule is you can only add one line to the story and it has to be a reasonably well know song lyric. Try and include the story in quotes so we can separate the comments from the story.- "That's So Gay" Ruling

http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/r_m/2007...sen_at_war.html I am certain everyone that called Carter chicken for not wishing to debate will now side with Michael Moore, which is just so frickin' funny. For the record, I remain consistent. I didn't think Carter had any obligation to debate and I do not believe Thompson does either.- New Airport X-Ray Peeks Under Clothes

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2007 -> 08:32 AM) Yankees. Sorry but I despise the "Evil Empire" more than anyone in baseball. And that is great for baseball. If baseball didn't have the Yankees, they would need to invent them.- DEI Caught Cheating
Oops. With a 1001 different rules on the cars I can understand . . .- Yankees or Cubs?
I voted Yankees because it is the "smart" thing. But seriously, we *might* be in a race with the Yankees for a wild card spot. We *will* be around Cub fans all year. Plus I was a north suburb kind of guy, so losses to the Cubs were even more nasty. So I'd like to change my vote. Cuck the Fubs.- Oh, that AJ!
- Official 2007-2008 RPS Thread
ROCK crushes scissors, scissors cut paper and paper covers rock. But nothing beats an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas and a shot at winning $US50,000 ($60,000). What was once a game to settle playground disputes has grown to be on the cusp of recognition as a global sport, with this year's finals of the USA Rock Paper Scissors Tournament drawing more than 300 contestants from all over the country. Matti Leshem, the national league's commissioner, has petitioned the International Olympic Committee to make it an event. Now he wants to bring "the greatest competition ever to sweep the USA" to Britain. But his ambition for RPS, as he calls it, doesn't stop there. "This is a sport that creates harmony," he says. "I want to set up the RPS Foundation to promote this sport as a simple method of conflict resolution." Sunday night's final was the culmination of more than 300 regional heats involving, according to Mr Lesham, "hundreds of thousands of people" who all beat their fists twice in the air (three times in Australia) before revealing one of the symbols. The $US50,000 prize went to Jaime Langridge, a male nurse from Odessa, Texas. The pre-tournament favourite, Antonie "Shears" Maanum, was eliminated despite trying to put off opponents by wearing a red silk boxing gown. Paramedics were on hand in case of "wrist or shoulder dislocations", while each bout took place under trained referees. Fouls include the vertical paper throw, known as "the handshake", illegal because it resembles scissors - as well as the horizontal scissors throw, outlawed for the opposite reason. More legitimate techniques include "cloaking" - concealing your choice until the last possible second - or "shadowing", where players pretend to choose one symbol and then change at the last second. Some players use special fingerless RPS gloves. "A lot of people tried to cheat. They throw early and then roll their hands," Mr Leshem, a 44-year-old Hollywood producer who clearly understands the value of hype, said. "We had the world's greatest RPS referee in Phil Gordon (a noted poker player) and he made some big calls. There was a lot of controversy, but we went back on the videotape and he got it right every time." The USARPS league is burgeoning because of its sponsorship from Bud Light beer, which sees it as the perfect bar-side competition. The brewers flew all 300 competitors and their guests to Vegas, paid for a lavish party and provided the prizemoney. IOL, You've Got Mail! So easy to use . . . The guys that replaced your unit, is that a training issue, unclear orders, learning curve??? I'm struggling for the right way to ask this, but are these guys more likely to wind up dead or cause other people (friendly) to die? Finally, from your descriptions and accounts of the game, I could see the average Iraqi wanting the US out and their neighborhoods returned to a prewar state. There can not be much semblance of life as usual for them.- May 15th "gas protest" nonsense
QUOTE(NUKE @ May 16, 2007 -> 04:54 AM) This is the best post in this thread so far. These same people that are crying the loudest about gas prices are still the ones that drive their SUV everywhere they go. It doesn't matter whether it's to work or 2 blocks down the street to get a gallon of milk. Sacrifice, to your average American, is something that other people should do. Until that mentality goes away there are always going to be really high gas prices. We need to mount an investigation, Nuke is sounding vaguely liberal in this post. He's probably been awake to long or one of his buddies is posting for him. - May 15th "gas protest" nonsense
