How about a reason that conservatives should appreciate? This is an official student group, and I believe is the key difference. This official student group agrees as part of it's recognition, to certain standards of behavior. In exchange, the University benefits because part of a great college experience are many of these groups. When these groups behave in this way, it alienates customers for the University. What business would have sponsored and tolerated this? It's just good business for the University to take appropriate actions. BTW, great post SS. There is a long way to go.

Michael Moore facing Treasury Dept. investigation

There is a lot to be said for Trade, not Aid. Plus, we start putting a McDonalds on every corner, and Castro starts liking that McMuffin in the morning and a Big Mac in the afternoon, biggie sized of course, and he's finally gone from there. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 13, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) I agree with Nuke on this. The liberal media takes anything that happens that could possibly be against a certain group of people and makes it a huge s***storm. Its to the point where certain groups are given special protection from any criticism towards them but when something happens toward the so-called "majority" (which in reality is now becoming the minority), nothing is done. IMO its bulls*** and the liberal media is to blame for a lot of the crap news stories that now come out that claim "discrimination" is going on. So wearing a s*** -n- Span t-shirt with Hispanic names, was criticism? What did the Hispanic community do that required this criticism?

The plane thing always was a tough call for me. On one end, it saves the country money. On the other is the appearance of impropriety.

We trade with so many countries with terrible track records against the US, their human rights records suck. Perhaps it's time to drop the embargo. -
A conservatives' dream professor. He (no feminazis) walks into a classroom, looks around and says, "hey s*** and Span Cleaners are here. Get out of those desks and start cleaning the windows!" All the students laugh, the Hispanic's take the joke, because that's funny stuff. You are right b****, it is an exclusively liberal trait to respect people and not use racial stereotypes. What whiny asses liberals are.

Private versus Government Faceless corporation a dozen layers above you. Faceless government a dozen layers above you. Great coworkers you want to hang with. Great coworkers you want to hang with. Jerks for coworkers you can't stand. Jerks for coworkers you can't stand Great promotions and advancement opportunities. Great promotions and advancement opportunities Getting screwed by office politics. Getting screwed by policies. BTW, Nuke has a government job. Exciting international travel, they provide food, clothing, and shelter, excellent training, cool awards and advancement opportunities, they let him and his buddies vote on their boss.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 13, 2007 -> 12:48 AM) Now this is just sad. "I'm sorry, I only hate gay people when I have to pee." I wonder, if Thompson keeps this up, if he can move into Gravel territory. That is one of the better excuses I've ever heard. Maybe he did have a dead hearing aid battery. Vintage Reagan

QUOTE(NUKE @ May 13, 2007 -> 01:56 AM) Everything I've read about Cuba's medical institutions tells me that they have a great many quality doctors. Hooray for them. Those same readings tell me that their standard of living is light years behind ours. Thank you fatass Michael Moore but I'll stay put right here in the good ol USA. Exactly, like we could ever learn anything from Cuba. We are the only smart people on the planet. We never should look at anything developed in some Commie third world country. -
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ May 12, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) It's not as if the school is giving these kids money to throw a racist party. Why hold them to a higher standard? Because they're smart kids and they should know better? Does that it make it more right or more wrong? I'm in agreement with Nuke here. I just wish minorities would learn to give it back. Society gets along better when we can all laugh at each other. Someone (cough*liberals in academia*cough) created a nation of whiney This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material. Soxtalk encourages a free discussion between its members, but does not allow personal attacks, threats, graphic sexual material, nudity, or any other materials judged offensive by the Administrators and Moderators. Thank you. that are offended at everything. And as I always point out in these types of discussions, if you look hard enough, you'll find offensive speech in everything. Funny how 90% of successful television sitcoms revolve around making fun of men, showcasing them as morons who couldn't walk straight if it weren't for their wives. Isn't this offensive to every man in the nation? Shouldn't we be boycotting these networks for their offensive speech? I'm calling my Congressperson. Most schools provide office space and logistical support for most student groups. In some areas the student groups are considered an extension of the University. I can see a difference between friends getting together and having a beer and an officially recognized student group throwing a party. I am certain that every student at that University now feels welcome to join that club, and I am certain that there are some University employees that appreciate their employer allowing them to be the object of ridicule. I love the world of conservatives you can walk around saying hey you nappy haired ho! Go back to Mexico you wet back ! Back of the bus, monkey. I'm just a stupid pollack! Whoo Whoo we're all getting along because we can insult anyone. You guys know how to party

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 12, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) actually, you will still be able to smoke at 'cigar' bars and 'tobacco' bars, you can't ban all a certain race from any establishment. so the analogy doesn't exactly hold, but i understand your point. ok, they are owned by the public because of that definition. happy? Hookah bars are already exempt, as well they should be. I would also hope they will revisit the ban if and when technology produces cigarettes with lower emission (can't think of a better word) or produces a better "smoke eater".

Does anyone disagree that a school sponsored group should be held to a higher standard than a group of friends getting together? That to me makes all the difference, especially if they are supported in any way by student activity fees.

OK, I'm a dumbass (I know tell you something you don't already know). My wrieless mouse started giving me troubles. Skipping, freezing, etc. It happened about the same time I started sync'ing my PDA via bluetooth and assumed it was a port conflict, After troubleshooting for a week, I receive a pop up that the batteries on the mouse were "critical" fresh batteries solved the problem. I offer this as a public service message

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 11, 2007 -> 07:43 AM) Thanks for being there for me! Seriously, though, there's some "good" politicians, but the very SYSTEM is corrupt, and it makes for corrupt people that run for office, even at the local levels.(1) I disagree (gee what a surprise!) but perhaps it's the label, not the actions we disagree on. I've seen a system that truly rewards corruption, up close and personal, when I worked in Mexico. The corruption at the lowest levels is common place. An extra $5 to process this application and stuff like this. I believe the tremendous financial requirements of running even a local campaign creates a situation where access is greater for the wealthy and generous and not for the majority of citizens. I believe they have to prostitute themselves with fundraising and etc, to keep the flow of campaign money flowing. I don't believe we have many laws written because of bribes to officials. I don't believe the vast majority of elected officials are "for sale". I believe our justice system favors those that can afford the best attorneys and "expert" witnesses. But I don't think the vast majority of judges accept bribes for rulings. (1) You know something about School Board candidates in Indiana?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 11, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) The spokespeople for asshatery? We have a whole bunch of people vying for that job.

I believe there is a huge difference between joking with friends and a school sponsored group holding a party that at it's core perpetuates a stereotype. Perhaps it would have been better if the dressed up like a lawyer and fired all the Democrats. Then wake up and claim to forget everything. At least it would have been a new stereotype. Part of the obligation that college has is to prepare students for life in the real world. If these kids were working for Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill and planned this party, they would be out of work in minutes. No corporation could tolerate this, and a University shouldn't either. The response was measured, we didn't see Jesse, Al. or any of the usual suspects, no one was kicked out of the university, and the apology was accepted.

I have a Dell E1705, which is considered a desktop replacement notebook. I added, a Logitech keyboard and wireless laser mouse and it is basically the same as a desktop except I can tuck it under my arm and head to Moon Beans.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 11, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) your analogies are so over the top it's hard for me to take them seriously. do really think an illegal activity such as refusing service to minorities is the same as as legal one such as smoking a cigar? i'm not the guy that thought a bar was public property. I am pointing out the many ways that these "private" places are regulated. There is a difference in private ownership and a private residence. I just pointed out some of the differences. In a private home, you can refuse anyone permission to enter. If the bars are "private" then why can't they refuse service to select groups of people? People keep making the statement that because it is private property, they should be exempt from smoking laws. I am just trying to show that they are public places that are privately owned and subject to probably hundreds of regulations on health and safety, the same as a smoking ban. And soon, it will not be legal to smoke a cigar in these places, so my analogy holds.

QUOTE(NUKE @ May 11, 2007 -> 06:58 AM) Way to mischaracterize my statement. Point Im trying to make is there are a bunch of whiny pussies who can't take a joke and there's people who don't get sand in their vagina when someone has a laugh at their expense. Since you can call your buddies racial slurs, then minorities everywhere should put up with it? If a group of officers got together for a party like this, are you telling me all would be ok? This is a public university group, if their best attempt at humor is insulting other people, then they should grow the f*** up. Are these the same military men who have been whining for over four decades that a couple may have been called baby killers? Talk about being too sensitive. I'll bet these guys will forget about it in a couple days, not decades.

QUOTE(NUKE @ May 11, 2007 -> 01:39 AM) Throw that dickhead in jail for about 5 years with Bubba then let him go. When he comes out all bowlegged and 70 lbs lighter, he'll never be heard from again. you are learning a lot from the Iraqis when it comes to punishment. I wonder, when we finally sink to their level, torture, etc. who comes in and rescues Americans from an evil ruler? Oh, and BTW, Moore is a dickhead and unless Cuba has some radical medical treatment that was these people's only hope, he deserves what ever punishment we dish out. Nuke, you smoking any Cuban cigars?
