Catch-All Anything Thread
OK, I'm a dumbass (I know tell you something you don't already know). My wrieless mouse started giving me troubles. Skipping, freezing, etc. It happened about the same time I started sync'ing my PDA via bluetooth and assumed it was a port conflict, After troubleshooting for a week, I receive a pop up that the batteries on the mouse were "critical" fresh batteries solved the problem. I offer this as a public service message

Educate me
QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 11, 2007 -> 07:43 AM) Thanks for being there for me! Seriously, though, there's some "good" politicians, but the very SYSTEM is corrupt, and it makes for corrupt people that run for office, even at the local levels.(1) I disagree (gee what a surprise!) but perhaps it's the label, not the actions we disagree on. I've seen a system that truly rewards corruption, up close and personal, when I worked in Mexico. The corruption at the lowest levels is common place. An extra $5 to process this application and stuff like this. I believe the tremendous financial requirements of running even a local campaign creates a situation where access is greater for the wealthy and generous and not for the majority of citizens. I believe they have to prostitute themselves with fundraising and etc, to keep the flow of campaign money flowing. I don't believe we have many laws written because of bribes to officials. I don't believe the vast majority of elected officials are "for sale". I believe our justice system favors those that can afford the best attorneys and "expert" witnesses. But I don't think the vast majority of judges accept bribes for rulings. (1) You know something about School Board candidates in Indiana?

Cinco de Mayo stereotype party
I believe there is a huge difference between joking with friends and a school sponsored group holding a party that at it's core perpetuates a stereotype. Perhaps it would have been better if the dressed up like a lawyer and fired all the Democrats. Then wake up and claim to forget everything. At least it would have been a new stereotype. Part of the obligation that college has is to prepare students for life in the real world. If these kids were working for Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill and planned this party, they would be out of work in minutes. No corporation could tolerate this, and a University shouldn't either. The response was measured, we didn't see Jesse, Al. or any of the usual suspects, no one was kicked out of the university, and the apology was accepted.

I have a Dell E1705, which is considered a desktop replacement notebook. I added, a Logitech keyboard and wireless laser mouse and it is basically the same as a desktop except I can tuck it under my arm and head to Moon Beans.

Illinois Smoking Ban Passes House
QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 11, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) your analogies are so over the top it's hard for me to take them seriously. do really think an illegal activity such as refusing service to minorities is the same as as legal one such as smoking a cigar? i'm not the guy that thought a bar was public property. I am pointing out the many ways that these "private" places are regulated. There is a difference in private ownership and a private residence. I just pointed out some of the differences. In a private home, you can refuse anyone permission to enter. If the bars are "private" then why can't they refuse service to select groups of people? People keep making the statement that because it is private property, they should be exempt from smoking laws. I am just trying to show that they are public places that are privately owned and subject to probably hundreds of regulations on health and safety, the same as a smoking ban. And soon, it will not be legal to smoke a cigar in these places, so my analogy holds.

Cinco de Mayo stereotype party
QUOTE(NUKE @ May 11, 2007 -> 06:58 AM) Way to mischaracterize my statement. Point Im trying to make is there are a bunch of whiny pussies who can't take a joke and there's people who don't get sand in their vagina when someone has a laugh at their expense. Since you can call your buddies racial slurs, then minorities everywhere should put up with it? If a group of officers got together for a party like this, are you telling me all would be ok? This is a public university group, if their best attempt at humor is insulting other people, then they should grow the f*** up. Are these the same military men who have been whining for over four decades that a couple may have been called baby killers? Talk about being too sensitive. I'll bet these guys will forget about it in a couple days, not decades.

Michael Moore facing Treasury Dept. investigation
QUOTE(NUKE @ May 11, 2007 -> 01:39 AM) Throw that dickhead in jail for about 5 years with Bubba then let him go. When he comes out all bowlegged and 70 lbs lighter, he'll never be heard from again. you are learning a lot from the Iraqis when it comes to punishment. I wonder, when we finally sink to their level, torture, etc. who comes in and rescues Americans from an evil ruler? Oh, and BTW, Moore is a dickhead and unless Cuba has some radical medical treatment that was these people's only hope, he deserves what ever punishment we dish out. Nuke, you smoking any Cuban cigars?

Illinois Smoking Ban Passes House
QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 10, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) no, it is not. the vast majority of them private property. the owner/employees can choose whom they will allow to enter or serve. the public may not come in as they please. you can be banned from a bar, you can be asked to leave a pub for being annoying, you can be turned away from a club for dressing poorly, ect. i think you are confused about the idea of private ownership and what public property is. Can they discriminate on the basis of race? Can they have too few exits? Can they have too few bathrooms? Do they need to meet ADA guidelines? Are the buildings inspected for health and safety compliance? Can they serve someone who is obviously intoxicated? Can they paint swastikas on the walls and tell minorities to leave? Can you tell blacks to use that bathroom and whites that bathroom? Can they pay their employees less than minimum wage and tell them they have a choice to work there or not? These are privately owner buildings open to the public and we have many laws about what can and can not happen in buildings that are open to the public. In fact we have many laws what can and can not happen in private homes as well. I will say I believed they stepped over the line at a true private club. For example an equity country club where the members are owners,k there is a standing membership committee who approves memberships, etc. That was until Southsider brought up the worker safety concerns and now I am leaning towards that being correct as well. I will say the last place smoking should be banned would be Hookah bars, then truly private clubs, followed by bars.

Cinco de Mayo stereotype party
QUOTE(NUKE @ May 11, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) Not true at all. You oughta hear some of the vile stuff that gets tossed around within my unit. My gunner is Mexican and we sling all sorts of stuff his way. ( Beaner, wetback, brown bastard) plus whatever stereotype you can think of. Same goes for me. Im Polish and I REALLY get it from my crew about that and I even throw in a few Polish jokes myself. My driver is Irish and we go to town with him about that. It's all understood, however, that it's all in fun and we all laugh really hard about it, even the person getting the business end of it. There are people in this world who can take a joke and then there's a bunch of whiny little b****es who go all to pieces when someone tells a joke about them. So in the military people just have to accept whatever vile insults are thrown their way? No protections? Great place for a racist to live and work. I wonder if the recruiters walk into a home and say hey beaner come join the army!

Mark already turned down a similar offer and the way he is looking this season, that was probably a great idea. If I was Mark, I'd be thinking 75/5. If I was a GM, I'd be thinking 100/6 or 7 and hoping I could negotiate something less.- The cause of an earache
