QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Trouble is, they're not speaking out about actual child abuse ( no children were harmed in the making of this movie ) but against a depiction of it. When something of this nature becomes "entertainment" we start to accept it. To say it's ok because it's "art" or because someone is making money off it, is wrong. Some will try and justify anything in the name of "art". We can go all the way back and discuss feeding people to lions as "art". It is bad when we become more and more desensitized to something as perverse as the exploitation of children.

QUOTE(NUKE @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 07:22 PM) My big thing here is that I'm a firm believer in having your own ducks in a row before being critical of someone else. How can an outfit that allowed similar behavior to go on for decades all of a sudden pipe up against a movie while the real thing is going on within its own ranks. The real thing is going on in schools, on sports teams, in after school programs, in families, and yes, in all Churches. What is the benefit in any of these groups in staying silent? Tens of millions of Catholics did NOT abuse or look the other way. At most, thousands may have. Tens of thousands of Catholic Churches worldwide did not abuse or hide abuse. So because .000001 percent of the organization did something wrong, they shouldn't talk about child abuse?? Every decent person on the planet should talk against child abuse. It's like saying the US Military can't comment because of the prisoner abuse. Teachers have been reassigned rather than face punishment, so schools can't comment. Doctors have been kept their licenses, so the medical community can't speak? That's silly. Whose going to speak up for kids? I am wondering why anyone would attack someone for speaking out against child abuse. I can see justification in criticizing an organization for not speaking out, but for speaking out? Are you worried it will hurt sex offender's feelings?

Is the Catholic Church, or anyone for that matter denouncing this "entertainment" a good or bad thing? Perhaps if you can explain how silence would help children, I can see your point.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) The thing is that Donahue and the Catholic Church sit on high telling others how to live their lives with their aura of legitimacy. I don't say one thing and do another. It is called consistency. And I believe it was the Bible that told people to take the timber out of their eye before going after the splinter in another's. Good to see Holy Mother Church learning that lesson well. Millions and millions of Catholics world wide, yet they can't speak because dozens or even hundreds committed crimes or covered them up? Child abusers have come from all walks of life and have been ignored and covered up by husbands, wives, brothers, and sisters. Applying your logic, no one could talk against child abuse. Not Doctors, not teachers, not coaches, not social workers. Of course if the Catholic Church didn't say something some people would be saying A Ha! We told you they were a bunch of child molesting sickos, they are keeping quiet because they like that stuff. The role of every person should be to stand up for children. To quiet hundreds of millions over the actions or inactions of a few, is wrong.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Well right. Levee systems I guess I'll give you. But I was meaning the homes and neighborhoods, commercial districts, etc. You look at pictures from the last month and it looks like nothing has changed. Entire neighborhoods look like a tornado just ran through them. This, to me, is a failure of the local and state government. Nagen is too busy gaining sympathy (and face time on national tv) than fixing his city. That's how I see it. I don't think it is possible, or wise, to try and rebuild everything at once. It will be a neighborhood by neighborhood project, The state and local governments aren't doing the actual home construction, that is private industry. I am also starting to wonder what the best response is. We've never had to rebuild a city of this magnitude. Is the best role of the feds to be sitting on the side lines? I could be convinced that mobilizing all available resources, federal to private, is the best approach.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) The top 3 polling on the Dem side are Clinton- who will have 8 years of senate experience by 2008 Obama- who will have 4 years of senate experience by 2008 Edwards- who will have been out of politics since 2004. The top 3 polling on the Rep side are McCain- who will have 22 years of senate experience by 2008 Guiliani- who will have been out of politics since 2002 Gingrich- who will have been out of politics since 1999 anyone notice something similar about 3 of the Top 6 polling candidates???? Perhaps a better phrase would be "no elected position held since" not out of politics, But point taken.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) What about the Caprocopia Award for the 2006 poster who is most full of $hit? Or, we could also just call it the Juggernaut Award. . . That should always be linked.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) Federal government aids in disasters, they don't fix. The federal government is a huge infrastructure builder. They are a huge financier of programs.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Unless Hillary or Barack does something incredibly stupid, or has something big in their closet, they are going to crowd out everyone else. There is only a finate amount of money to go around, and that is going to prohibit anyone else from getting their word out on the democratic side of things. The other guys in the race are just wasting their time if you ask me. Its sad, but money is the only way to get elected now adays. Great, great, point.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3356103,00.html I couldn't agree more. I have no idea what would happen after such a strike, but I do know that I distrust the governments ability to handle it. Especially now with Congress and the President at odds with policy, I can't imagine how decisions would be made in a timely fashion. Decisions do not have to be made by committee. The President has absolute authority to act. But if you are still concerned, be certain to vote for the Dem candidate in '08

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) Good. There is no room for him in that field anyway, he'd get slaughtered. How are you seeing the primary going on the Dem side? I'm thinking there will be some early knockouts with Hillary and one or two people battling deep. But it will get to 2 or 3 before Super Tuesday.

Damn A bunch of these will wind up on plaques being presented for helping with (no need to click just working up the google search results) Laguna Station High Adventure Sea Base on South Padre Island for Boy Scouts interested in SCUBA, Sailing, Fishing, Surfing, Snorkeling, So I figured it would be better to have them professionaly printed instead of using my home color laser. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Kerry had his chance. I really wish he would change his mind and run, the GOP would have a flip flop field day, getting all excited and slobbering.

I have a project that required a bunch of photos and decided to try one of the on-line photo printing services. Holding my breath that they won't f*** it up. It was nice not to have to go out in the cold and rain this morning.

Dear Jim, If nothing else, the last election proved that politics-by-slogan and poll-tested sound bites aren't going to cut it with the American people anymore, and that's why the real test of leadership is not what the President said to Congress last night, but how he works with Congress in the months to come to find real solutions to America's problems. The good news is that in the halls of Congress and across the nation, there is widespread support from both Democrats and Republicans on how to meet the major challenges facing America. Most Americans believe that escalation will not bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end, and that's why I've proposed not just a troop cap, but a phased redeployment that will start bringing our troops home. Most Americans believe that energy independence will come from using more biofuels like ethanol and making cars that actually use less oil, which is why I proposed a bipartisan plan that would raise fuel economy standards for the first time in decades. Most Americans believe that the biggest domestic challenge facing the country is the high cost of health care, and that's why incremental plans that do nothing to bring down costs or guarantee coverage are simply no longer sufficient. We must pass universal health care for every American. The American people are looking for something new. They are hungry for a different kind of politics. In the last week, I've been humbled and inspired to see more than 100,000 of you sign up to join our efforts to change the debate in this country, so that we can begin solving our common problems and pursuing our common dreams. Last night was an evening for rhetoric and promises. But now is the time for action - now is the time to actually get something done. You deserve leadership that's commensurate to the challenges we face in this country, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this happen in the days and months to come. Sincerely, U.S. Senator Barack Obama Allow Ol' Tex to translate from that political double speak: retreat, gettin' out, pulling out, leaving, letting them cover their own asses, adios mother f***ers, good bye desert, hello dessert, saving the budget, saving the GOP,

No offense to Bush in this comment, but he's one man, the Nation's and World's problems are large. He looks like he is carrying them all on his shoulders. I sensed a just let me make it until the end and get the hell out vibe. He hasn't looked like he is enjoying the job anymore.
