  1. Happy Birthday!!
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) 'Don't be from Florida, Don't be from Florida. . . ' Yep. Florida. Not only that, he's being held in jail in my county. We do we get every whackjob and psychopath in the country? That reminds me, I've been asked to consider a postion in Florida, how far are you from Tampa?
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 06:56 AM) I think the country is ready for something different. No Bush, no Clinton, no Kerry, no Gore. Let's start over, and try something different. Obama is a perfect guy in that respect. Something different could be any Senator. Perhaps a war hero type, a Republican. Someone like McCain. What I am going to enjoy is the heavyweight primary battles for both parties. There are some studs running. People who can campaign hard with great oratory skills. I believe this cycle will be remembered for generations. On the Dem side you will have a couple people who could tear down barriers. Obama and Hillary are electable. Rudy and McCain to start the GOP would be an epic party battle. I wish there was a candidate in all this that I could really jump behind. Someone I would want to pound the pavement for. I don't want to be on the sidelines watching the body bags.
  4. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Is there a book out there that would teach my Girlfriend about baseball, i mean the true essence of baseball? This is my hand, that is a beer, fetch? What more does she need to know? Seriously, you know as much or more than almost any book you're going to find. If you do go to a game and she's bored in the fifth inning, go for a walk around the park, see some of the cool stuff, grab some food away from the seats, then go back. Have her bring a friend.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) But of course, the key is, in 2012, he'd either be challenging a Dem. incumbent in the primary or challenging an incumbent Repub in the general, and that's guaranteed to be a lot more difficult than saying why you're the guy to clean up Bush's mess. Agreed. He's a man ahead of his time and resume.
  6. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) better than Tusk, etc Better than Tusk?? What could be better than Tusk? Let's see Finger nails across a chalkboard? Yes Yoko Ono? Yes Johnny Bravo? Yes
  7. His longevity on the world stage is amazing. I kind of like the "we know what he's like" familiarity over who the hell is this guy and what will he do, of Castro's successor.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) My point is this early in the game, intangibles is all Obama has, and he's being annoited as the best thing since sliced bread. He ain't s***, yet, but he's the new media darling... that is until her thighness Ms. Clinton jumps in. Well it sure did take you a long time to get to your point and I agree with you. I thought he would be a great candidate in 2012. This feels too soon. But don't underestimate the intangibles, the American public can feel its way into and out of a recession very easily. You do realize, by your criteria, you eliminated Senators from serious consideration. For the most part they have little executive experience.
  9. Wow, that is fascinating. I just assumed that once they went into prison they were dropped from any political calculations. I do see a bit of perverted fairness in those areas with prisons receiving a windfall of sorts for putting up with having a prison in their backyard.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Actually, I said that I think Bill Richardson is the most qualified candidate out there somewhere else around here. He has executive experience, was an ambassador for us, and has some good, moderate views. Where do you fit the intangibles into this? The stuff that made Reagan magical and Bush Jr. inconsistent?
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) I'm not talking about the assbags that the Republicans have carted out there, I'm talking about Obama. Quit deflecting the subject. P.S. - Reagan had a record. He was governor, remember? I understand that Reagan was a Governor, he was also President of the Motion Picture Academy, but what parallels will you point to between a Governor and President? Foreign policy? Perhaps knowing your way around Washington is an advantage that we have ignored through the past several decades? And I wasn't deflecting, just making a prediction that you will be voting for the GOP candidate. So what kind of a track record are you looking for? Voting on Federal issues? A Governor will have none, we'll have a couple years of Obama, and more with other candidates. There will be a much different set of issues to tackle if a Governor/Mayor is running versus a Senator/VP/Congressman/CIA Head etc. What we are asked of by voting is who would make the best President. If in your eyes, running a state is critical, you will vote for most any Governor over a Senator. (of course I don't see you passing over a GOP Senator to vote for a Dem Governor). I place much more faith on their vision of America and what we can become in 4 years under their direction. I look at their ability to forge compromise with various factions. I look at their ability to raise the American spirit. I want a glimpse at their character, citizenship, and mental and physical fitness. I want to know their views reflect mine in most areas. I don't know what track record could have predicted that Bush would be off the charts brilliant during 9/11 and terrible in New Orleans. What track record would have predicted Kennedy's brilliance in staring down the Russians and vitalizing the space program.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 08:46 AM) I've heard lots of people say the Cars in concert was an incredible snorefest. I was stoked about seeing "The New Cars" sith my man Todd Rundgren at the helm in place of Ric, but Elliot Easton broke his collarbone in a tour bus accident a few days before they got to my neck of the woods. The Cars are a group that I didn't appreciate nearly enough when they were around, but a band I've really come to enjoy in time. I appreciate wanting to let your music speak for you, but why go on tour if not to entertain? Someone glued their feet to the floor. They seemed to be trying to reach the same level of perfection a studio album has. Yet, most crowds prefer deviating from the song. Even cheap techniques like inserting for actual town name in lyrics is a guaranteed applause. Toss in an extra riff, anything to make me believe I am seeing a live act. The robot that opened for ELO in the early 80s was more entertaining.
  13. Down here people are not prepared for the cold. I was awake half the night praying for the less privileged who live in dwellings without heat and do not have warm blankets. The colonias are usually just concrete block construction, drafty, and without adequate heat. Then there are those living in mobile homes. On the news they showed a family that would burn wood down to coals and then bring them inside to warm the trailer so their children could stay warm. They used an old plow blade and a couple brick to keep the coals away from anything flammable. The coals were right by the door of the home. I know there won't be much sympathy here for undocumented workers, but last night one young woman was airlifted to the hospital with severe frostbite and many others are being rescued and returned to Mexico before they die of exposure. Risking their lives for a piece of the American dream.

Slick. I don't mind a computer menu, but I do want a clear path to a human if none of the options seems to fit. I get annoyed after waiting five minutes to be put on hold and transfered to another department.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 06:18 AM) You never turned on a radio in college? Oh, wait, I mean you never cranked up the prehistoric bird with the headphones and microphone that used to pass for radio back in your Flintstone college days? Never owned a single or album. Plus IIRC, they were more a middle eighties, I was an early eightees college student. So far, not a lot of love for Greatest Hits Albums. Now there are some great box sets available . . . QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 06:54 AM) The one true Greatest Hits I always enjoyed was The Cars' My vote for worst live show ever. Ever. Ever
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 07:01 AM) Give it a rest. You, nor anyone else, can say anything that gives him a track record to be president. So instead, we get this fluffy bulls*** about what a great speaker he is. Clinton governed a state (executive experience) and had a record. To this point, Obama's record is razor thin, at best. I seriously want someone to point out to me why Obama's so great, besides he can speak clearly and articulately, which is something our current president surely can't do. Then it becomes what kind of a track record could prepare you for President? The most favored as been Governor and because we are United States, who get together and pick someone to be President, that does make sense. So right off the bat, he's at a huge disadvantage. As I have said before, I believe this is too early for him to run. 2012 would make more sense to me, You dismiss the speaking and moral building as fluffy bulls***, I place a greater value in it. Perhaps you are just a tad too young to remember the lead up to Reagan and how he made us feel invincible again. Contrast two moments in Bush's Presidency. Standing on a pile of ruble in NYC with a bull horn and later in New Orleans. I am convinced that if was on top of his game in New Orleans with another defining moment of compassionate conservatism and feeding off his faith, we'd have a much greater feeling about how we did in New Orleans. He was brilliant in NY, Tired in NO. But in the end, you will support whomever the GOP wheels out there, so why get yourself all worked up over who the Dems toss into the ring?
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) She wasn't a fool, she was a mother. But it's cute how he's the dickhead cheater yet she gets called stupid. :rolleyes I met her once when she brought one of the boys into the ER that my wife worked at. Two things I remember, she brought her son in by herself, without an entourage or nanny, and she was the nicest person to everyone. He may be a world famous athlete, but he's as human as anyone else here. He can keep it in his pants like a decent human being.
  18. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) When? 1967? Before cable TV.
  19. Okaaaay, what it tis offisir my satnaph, thatz it, my satnav, told me to do it QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) I have defeated computer solitaire 3 straight times (yes, its a very slow day at work). Get that on your resume
  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) If breathalyzers were cheaper, I think most (if not all) would bring them out to the bars with them. Waay back in the 70s and early 80s there were coin op breathalysers and yes, it became a challenge to see how drunk you could get.
  21. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) A bad back will hurt his trade value quite a bit. As would a weak bat
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) You are 99.99% correct I would say. For me the exception that proves the rule is Squeeze' "Singles 45's and Under." Squeeze was a phenomenal singles band and Difford and Tillbrook were BritPop masters when the stars alligned and the songs clicked. But that chemistry didn't sustain itself over entire albums for even their best releases, unlike Partridge/Moulding or lennon/McCartney. There. I just proved you wrong. That didn't take long. Fortunately, like a true politician, I left me an out in my original statement. I have not heard Squeeze's Greatest Hits, therefor, I am still right.
  23. I just caught myself proclaiming that I had never heard a greatest hits LP that was better than the artists best albums. I can think that maybe there have been some Live recordings that surpassed the studio stuff, perhaps Framptom Comes Alive, it certainly sold way more than his recordings to that point. But basically greatest hits cds are record company creations to sell some records and leech the last bit of soul from an act. Prove me wrong.
