  1. Rough world we live in. We are so lucky to be isolated by oceans and have great neighbors to the north and south.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) He actually pulled it out before passing out and dying. I wonder if he had left it in they may have been able to save him. Excellent point Steff. Rule of thumb in First Aid. If you aren't bleeding, leave it in. Get emergency help. Unfortunately, it is usually a reflex and people want it out. Another tip I like, if you need to wash out an eye, if you can drink it, it can go in the eye. So Budweiser or that Bloody Mary can be used to irrigate an eye in an emergency. Of course use water if it's available.
  3. He would not be the first HoFer to struggle his rookie season. I see a Crede like beginning of his career. Perhaps a BA around .275 next season and hovering around .300 after that. With a little luck, he should see a few All-Star games and who knows from there.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) The point of history is to learn from our mistakes, not to take nothing away from them and be doomed to repeat them. Ozzie didn't listen in history class. The point is to learn, not just from failure. How many people learn from their success? It worked last year, why change?
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) 30 posts in and no Queen mention? Sad. "Thank you SS for asking. I think the lovely music they played at by coronation would be perfect" Here's an idea. Why not turn off the music. Let Jenks be the old school guy who comes in to the applause of the crowd? How the hell did this game survive without musical intros
  6. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Good employees arent cheap and cheap employees arent good*. *Does not apply to non profits where all employees are cheap. What some companies do not "get" is that they can attract better employees, and it isn't just by opening the checkbook a little wider. Working conditions, benefits, and treating the employees like adults will attract some excellent employees who value these things. Sometimes it is cheap or free stuff that makes the difference.
  7. To have any chance in the post season, this team needs to fall a game or two behind Minny and then battle back. They absolutely have to lose 2 or 3 games in this series. As a matter of fact a four or five game losing streak would be perfect about now. I'm only half joking
  8. Jon, don't get too comfy, BA, JU, SP and you'll be back out in a blink of the eye
  9. He was filming this for his daughter's show.

    Trekkie ~~ or Not

Many people claim it was a Vietnam War protest show. This was not Shatner's best acting effort, he really showed off his thesbian atributes in TJ Hooker
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) i remember when that story came out. The fish pictured died during its capture, so they cut up the fish and fed the local village. No joke, the fish fed an entire village. There is a picture at the link, the fish was 646 pounds and someone was using a cross cut saw to make giant steaks out of the fish. Remember, give a man a fish and tyou feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day long.
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) Nice. So that check I just sent is going to get me a call from Homeland Security? It's ok Kap, you're a conservative from Texas, it's those pesky liberals from the northeast we have to worry about.

  14. Thank God our government is do diligent. Nice to see what one party, having all the power, can do.
  15. When I Was Your Age ... Queen Prawn was passing a group of young teens sitting on the church lawn and stopped to ask what they were doing. "Nothing much, Queenie," replied one boy. "We were just seeing who can tell the biggest lie about their sex life.""Boys, boys, boys!" she scolded. "I'm shocked. When I was your age, I never even thought about sex." In unison they all replied, "You win!"
  16. Perhaps we are missing Rowand for more than his baseball skills,
  17. I can't believe it. to his family
  18. We need BoSox at full speed, or else we'll play down to the competition.
  19. ^^^^^^^^^^ Payroll numbers are misleading based on things like Thome's contract, where the Sox aren't picking up the whole tab. I'd like to see someone give the actual net cash payroll for each team. I don't see where payroll makes a difference. Would we be in love with this team if we knew the team was making a bigger profit with a lower payroll?
  20. Bottom line, these guys need to play better. It isn't Ozzie's or Kenny's fault. Each of these guys has the potential to play better. Dreaming of trades that are one sided, is only fooling yourself. Yes, you can separate wins from performance, but bottom line, some guys are winners. That's the intangible that separates some guys from AAAA and MLB. Pressure in pitching comes from pitching to win, not pitching for stats.
  21. If the team that will produce one of the top 5 records in Sox history sucks this bad, what about the rest of them? It would be amazing to know if those teams could even tie their own shoes. I'll agree, Ozzie is probably the worst manager in Sox history to manage a team to the World Series.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Sorry, we have 3 topics about the same thing. I did some merging. I was trying to avoid a clash and flames.
  23. Welcome to September in Chicago. How many times have we watched September screw ups in our lifetimes? On both sides of Madison . . .
