  1. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) No, that's not it. But to label any poster's good faith effort a the worst anything ever is a bit extreme. Debate the content, but respect the poster. Respect is a good thing..wouldn't you agree? I thought it was more a tongue in cheek thread starter that would have been fun to kick.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Yeah that 5.1 innings pitched on 68 pitches 6 days ago is really holding him back. If only he had gone 9 with 125, then he would be ready. How about some consistent innings? If all you're looking for is 5 innings, we have that. It is a tough transistion, with proably a sacrificial start thrown in. I think it would not be enough of an upgrade to warrent the lineup change.
  3. I am not even close to thinking moves should be made to find a spot for him in the starting rotation. I't watched too many players, and especially pitchers, struggle once they get to the mlb level. He's getting an extened tryout, under playoff race conditions. We'll see this month and next Spring if he's a player.
  4. Putting BMac in the lineup as a starter, would be the most unfair thing we could do right now. He isn't "stretched out" for the extended innnings, and the pressure would be incredible, epecially for someone who is basically a rookie. I don't think it would be enough of an upgrade at this point in the season. I could agree that the time to move him may have been a month ago. Anyone care to debate when a 4 man rotation might make sense and who should be dropped? It seems like we have two candidates.
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) I still hurt like hell after a workout and I've been lifting a long time. The funny thing about me is, that it seems to be worse 48 hours later than it is the day after the workout. That's why I work out every other day and try to seperate the muscle groups so that none of them are being overworked. When I was running and racing the 48 hour mark was the most difficult as well.
  6. Whether it is bellybuttons or the White Sox chances, I am IN
  7. They can be funny or smart sweet or tart To kick it off, from the Matt Lienert is a daddy thread . . . (his girlfriend is a 20-year old junior, so it probably was not "planned") QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) What college team did he play for again??? Oh, yeah, the Trojans. Hmm, the irony, huh?
  8. One job I had in high school was "x-dating" for an insurance agent. I took a phone directory and he paid me .10 for every person I spoke with who would confirm their info and when their car insurance expired. I am certain some hours I was psid less than minimum, especially when friends would stop by. I was alone in the office in the evening. I could see a similar wage scale here, and I believe it is what the US Census uses, $X per house. Work faster, earn more. I am not necessarily defending that company, just offering some possible explainations. Most businesses fo not have the time or the interest to thouroughly check their suppliers labor practices, but you would think a political party would. Imagine if some company came in off the street and asked you for your employee records and other information like that before offering to place work with you. Most businesses would not hand that over.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) 5 Bottles of Rolling Rock...$24 3 shots of jager....$18 3 hours of darts on a Thursday Night...$10 Sleeping til 11am than filling your belly with White Castles...Priceless! $6 shot? but only $4.50 for Rolling Rock? Where were you at? Gotta love that White Castle in Gurnee
  10. Of course this is an area that is so easy abused that only well trained officers should be involved and then under strict guidance. To me it's similar to putting a beautiful 20 something lady in front of some dumpy middle aged married guy, buying him drinks, and then seeing if he would cheat. That situation would never happen in the real world and this guy may never have cheated in his life. We have to avoid the "testing people" aspect. That should not be a bonafide method of law enforcement.
  11. I am troubled when law enforcement becomes a co conspirator. Providing materials that they might not have gotten any other way, seems to step over a boundry.
  12. I am reading the challenges of being the jack of all trades, versus the challenges of being called on for one position on a daily basis. I am not certain, with enough off season time, if he could or couldn't be a decent everyday guy in center. I am certain he would be much improved. I also have respect and a certain amount of empathy for his plight.
  13. It will be very easy to cheer for Frank. Loud and often.
  14. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...?referrer=email These cases are always tough. FBI agents hand a do it yourself terrorist kit to a group of extremists and then arrest them.

    Dog rescue

Aquantances of ours used a grayhound rescue to obtain a dog. It had previous been a racing dog. Well mannered, a little aloof, could be the breed. From what little I know, there may be a breed rescue. I know some of the less popular breeds have specific rescues set up. I kind of doubt that for a popular, easy to live with breed. I think that's more for big dogs, potentially lethal breeds, etc.
  16. Evil, you own a business, how many times have *you* paid *yourself* less than minimum wage? I recall with my businesses, every once in a while I didn't even draw a check. I think about that when minimum wage comes up. There are a lot of small business owners out there working 100 hours a week for less than the min. I did some of this type of work a jillion years ago. I was paid per "contact" and for some hours may have made less than the minimum, but some hours over the minimum. IIRC, I was not considered an employee, but an independent contractor. So judding, while not "tips", think more commission. And anytime there is commission/tips/piece work/pay for performance there is potential for abuse. Once again proving that rich business owners will exploit workers for their own gain. Wouldn't it be fun to know the politics of the person who sets the pay scale and not the politics of their customers?
  17. Notice the nice bell curve of ages Who are the other old people?
  18. Of the regrets of things I haven't done, which fortunately is a lot longer than the list of things I regret doing, the PC is one of them. It wasn't until I was entrenched in a career that I realized the opportunities I had passed up and never considered. Is the Peace Corp in need of volunteers, or, as your last post implies, is there more applicants than positions? I t doesn't seem like the PC advertise too much.
  19. Thank you. A very nice lady bought me The Wit and Wisdom of Ozzie Mighty thin book
  20. No Dustin? I'm a little sad for him.
  21. How can there be almost no love for Ordinary People? It won the Academy Award for best picture. Soxy, I would have guessed you would have liked the unrealistic portrait of psychology :-)
  22. There parents must be so proud Honestly, why aren't they in jail? Playing football shouldn't even ne considered. These peoples priorities are f***ed up. And there are no substitute words for f***ed up in this case.
  23. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Issue 1 of my magazine is now done. I get it from the printers tomorrow. How can I get an issue? A little help, can someone tell me who Danny Kirwan is and why should I care? I understand he was a bit of a prodigy in Fleetwood Mac, before Stevie Nicks but . . .
  24. QUOTE(Soxy @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) For the book I'm going to have to go with The House on Mango Street (by Sandra Cisneros). And honorary mention to A Raison in the Sun which, although a play, is a great piece of literature. And no Untouchables for the movie? Every time I travel abroad and people find out I'm from Chicago, that's always the first question. . . Of course you would go upscale on me.
