  1. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...?referrer=email These cases are always tough. FBI agents hand a do it yourself terrorist kit to a group of extremists and then arrest them.

Aquantances of ours used a grayhound rescue to obtain a dog. It had previous been a racing dog. Well mannered, a little aloof, could be the breed. From what little I know, there may be a breed rescue. I know some of the less popular breeds have specific rescues set up. I kind of doubt that for a popular, easy to live with breed. I think that's more for big dogs, potentially lethal breeds, etc.
  3. Evil, you own a business, how many times have *you* paid *yourself* less than minimum wage? I recall with my businesses, every once in a while I didn't even draw a check. I think about that when minimum wage comes up. There are a lot of small business owners out there working 100 hours a week for less than the min. I did some of this type of work a jillion years ago. I was paid per "contact" and for some hours may have made less than the minimum, but some hours over the minimum. IIRC, I was not considered an employee, but an independent contractor. So judding, while not "tips", think more commission. And anytime there is commission/tips/piece work/pay for performance there is potential for abuse. Once again proving that rich business owners will exploit workers for their own gain. Wouldn't it be fun to know the politics of the person who sets the pay scale and not the politics of their customers?

Notice the nice bell curve of ages Who are the other old people?
  5. Of the regrets of things I haven't done, which fortunately is a lot longer than the list of things I regret doing, the PC is one of them. It wasn't until I was entrenched in a career that I realized the opportunities I had passed up and never considered. Is the Peace Corp in need of volunteers, or, as your last post implies, is there more applicants than positions? I t doesn't seem like the PC advertise too much.
  6. Thank you. A very nice lady bought me The Wit and Wisdom of Ozzie Mighty thin book
  7. No Dustin? I'm a little sad for him.

How can there be almost no love for Ordinary People? It won the Academy Award for best picture. Soxy, I would have guessed you would have liked the unrealistic portrait of psychology :-)
  9. There parents must be so proud Honestly, why aren't they in jail? Playing football shouldn't even ne considered. These peoples priorities are f***ed up. And there are no substitute words for f***ed up in this case.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Issue 1 of my magazine is now done. I get it from the printers tomorrow. How can I get an issue? A little help, can someone tell me who Danny Kirwan is and why should I care? I understand he was a bit of a prodigy in Fleetwood Mac, before Stevie Nicks but . . .

QUOTE(Soxy @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) For the book I'm going to have to go with The House on Mango Street (by Sandra Cisneros). And honorary mention to A Raison in the Sun which, although a play, is a great piece of literature. And no Untouchables for the movie? Every time I travel abroad and people find out I'm from Chicago, that's always the first question. . . Of course you would go upscale on me.

  13. QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) what if the allegations aren't true though? It would be enough if he thought they were true. The jury would be less sympathetic, but he could still try the same defense.

It is ironic. The difference is most of the time someone 30 pounds over weight and having a grabber isn't as much of a nuisance as someone smoking
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) Happy birthday Tex! And why are we hiding this in here, did the thread starter have a senior moment too? '' Nah, he was sparing me the ignominy I'm surprised it wasn't in the 'buster.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) While the movie answer MUST be Blues Brothers, I'd like to make an honorary mention for a movie not listed which was about the best I've seen since then at capturing Chicago accents and attitudes... Backdraft. Not a spectacularly excellent film by any means, but just listen to Kurt Russell and his company in that movie. They actually, clearly, worked to acquire a proper local dialect. Most of the time, that isn't bothered with in Chicago-filmed movies. I guess I'm a little blinded by all the Academy Awards that Ordinary People gathered in. Perfect Strangers and Family Matters were considered . . . and dropped. I also did not included Oprah and Jerry Springer
  17. Not bored at all. What was your host family like? How do you think the experience changed you, if at all? Did you have a choice of countries?
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) Well, you're basically wrong on both fronts. Not really sure why you mentioned the Cubs, as far as I know they've never signed a draft pick with a clause in his contract that he must be called up by September after being drafted earlier in the season. It has nothing to do with being thin pitching wise, they HAVE to call him up. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Try doing a little research next time... Excellent use of pop culture, I rate it a QOTM
  19. Thank You.

With the noted exceptions that Mike mentioned, not a bad article. When he started talking about BBQ, I was thinking huh? It never seemed that big of a deal, but I forgot about ribs.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) Wayne's World=Aurora Besides there can be no vote except for the Blues Brothers I should have said Chicagoland. Ordinary People was a stretch also. The easiest IMHO is The Jungle. Of course conservatives will not want their children to read it. Too much do gooding from the government. Married . . . With Children put Fox on the map. Newhart is a TV Classic, ER is probably the most critically acclaimed, and Good Times was cutting edge social commentary.
  22. *Hill Street may be a stretch. While the city was never identified, it was usually thought of as Chicago. Discuss
  23. In reviewing classic real estate strategies I've come up with a plan to purchase this package. I have a chest with some really cool beads and necklaces . . .
  24. Just askin', if a parent is doing the homework for their child, so that child can keep earnin' As, does the parent have to be in uniform? Not that I a thinking of anyone in particular.
