    Lunch

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 07:54 AM) Will you be joining in the chorus of YMCA? Probably not, but hope the cook isn't burnin' for you . . .
  2. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 08:14 AM) No, they shouldn't. But these two had received less than most because they worked for Fox. I didn't want to make it personal to this, but doesn't it seem like reporters receive way more attention than anyone else? I wonder if he worked for the Middletown Crier, if it would be the same?
  3. Steff, I was wondering the same thing. I can't believe at that time they had other, more promising leads. The only thing I could think of was time and money. Perhaps there are so many wackos like this they don't have the time and money to check everyone out.
  4. Glad to hear everything is ok. Maybe you and Jim can swap storm stories . . .

    Fishermen found

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Three Mexican fishermen who survived nine months adrift in a small boat in the Pacific Ocean will now be investigated for possible links to drug trafficking, the government said on Tuesday. The three men, who said they left Mexico's Pacific coast fishing village of San Blas last November, were rescued two weeks ago more than 5,000 miles away near the Marshall Islands in the south Pacific. Their dramatic story of survival on the high seas -- staying alive by eating raw birds and fish, and drinking rain water -- has captivated Mexico. Few doubt the men, who are due back in Mexico on Friday, spent nine months lost at sea, but there are doubts over other parts of the story. All three men were first seen as national heroes but in recent days questions have arisen over why they went to sea in the first place and over two other men who died on board. "There will no doubt have to be an investigation. This case merits an investigation," Ruben Aguilar, the spokesman for President Vicente Fox, told reporters on Tuesday when asked about rumored drug connections. "There are a series of questions and the corresponding authorities will have to investigate." he said. Mexico's Pacific Coast is a drug trafficking highway and in the village of San Blas the streets are abuzz with rumors that when they began their voyage on a 25-foot (8-meter) boat, the men may not have been fishing for sharks as they claim. But the men rejected suggestions that they were involved in drug trafficking. "They are wrong because we went out to catch sharks," Jesus Vidana, one of the survivors, said in a television interview from the Marshall Islands, where they were finally returned to dry land on Tuesday. The fishermen also flatly denied suggestions that they may have eaten the bodies of the two dead men to stay alive. Continued ...

  9. BEIJING (Reuters) - Striptease send-offs at funerals may become a thing of the past in east China after five people were arrested for organizing the intimate farewells, state media reported on Wednesday. Police swooped last week after two groups of strippers gave "obscene performances" at a farmer's funeral in Donghai County, Jiangsu province, Xinhua news agency said. The disrobing served a higher purpose, the report noted. "Striptease used to be a common practice at funerals in Donghai's rural areas to allure viewers," it said. "Local villagers believe that the more people who attend the funeral, the more the dead person is honored." Wealthy families often employed two troupes of performers to attract a crowd. Two hundred showed up at last week's funeral. Five strippers were detained and local officials "issued notices concerning funeral management," Xinhua said. Now village officials must submit plans for funerals within 12 hours after a villager dies. And residents can report "funeral misdeeds" on a hotline, the report said.

5:15 AM and I'm working my lunch schedule already. I see a fish taco in my future. Not certain if it will be from The Oyster Bar (Voted one of the top 20 Beach Dives in America) or Dirty Al's. Anticipation . . .

  16. I am in and feeling good. Getting the rough stuff out of the way early and a big swing of momentum should occur in starting tomorrow
  17. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) I think that's the key. Depending on how young the snakes were, baby rattlesnakes don't know how much venom to use when biting yet and are the most dangerous. Though I think they should change the word "pranksters" to the word "criminals". Correct, the youngins are the most dangerous. I wonder what charges they would come up with. In theory they are deadly, but anything like manslaughter or murder would be overkill, I think. What would they be charged with? Someting less than a felony I think.
  18. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Exactly. Plus, the history of some of these violins is incredible. Centuries old.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) But I am sure you realize as much as anyone that the rules of first aid don't necessarily apply if you are in the backcountry, Mr. Big Bend. I'd recommend you carry a Sawyer Extractor Kit, soft constrictive bands, and some antihistimines. If you have room, chemical cold packs are handy too. Exactly. Usually the people hurt are either owners or kids who find one around their home. We ate one on a campout that was shot earlier at a friends ranch. Very tasty. Not as oily as I was lead to believe. It was similar to gator tail. One of my backpacking discussion lists got on waterproof stuff sacks versus pack covers. Have you ever left the pack cover at home and went with dry sacks? I always pack in zip lock bags, and have considered adding those white trash compactor bags to line the inside. But always take a cover.

  21. Who is eligible for arbitration? A player becomes eligible for arbitration after reaching three years of Major League service (although how this three year term is defined is for smarter folks than me). Additionally, a player who has accumulated at least 86 days of service during the immediately preceding season and is among the top 17% of players who meet that criterion in total service time is eligible for arbitration. Protected Player: A player with less than 6 years of Major League service that is not signed to a multi-year contract. If that player has less than 3 years of service or was not eligible for salary arbitration, his contract can get renewed in the first two weeks of March or earlier for at least the minimum major league salary of 327K or the minimum minor league salary of $54,500, if he has at least 1 day of service or 2 years on the 40-man roster. Protected players can also receive split contracts with different salaries for the Majors and Minors. The player would receive the Majors' salary if on the 25-man roster or if on the 15 or 60-day DL. If the player was eligible for salary arb., he can sign a 1-year deal or can sign a multi-year deal. A player is eligible for arbitration if he has 3,4 or 5 years of service. A player who has 2 years of service and is deemed a "Super-Two" by an arbitrator can also be eligible for salary arb.
  22. As a public service announcement. BYW snakes usually do not release venom when they strike humans. They need the venom to take down food. That bitof information will probably not be of much comfort if you gwt struck. Rattlesnakes are very pretty. I love seeing them in the wild.
