live rattlesnakes loose in a theatre
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) I think that's the key. Depending on how young the snakes were, baby rattlesnakes don't know how much venom to use when biting yet and are the most dangerous. Though I think they should change the word "pranksters" to the word "criminals". Correct, the youngins are the most dangerous. I wonder what charges they would come up with. In theory they are deadly, but anything like manslaughter or murder would be overkill, I think. What would they be charged with? Someting less than a felony I think.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) But I am sure you realize as much as anyone that the rules of first aid don't necessarily apply if you are in the backcountry, Mr. Big Bend. I'd recommend you carry a Sawyer Extractor Kit, soft constrictive bands, and some antihistimines. If you have room, chemical cold packs are handy too. Exactly. Usually the people hurt are either owners or kids who find one around their home. We ate one on a campout that was shot earlier at a friends ranch. Very tasty. Not as oily as I was lead to believe. It was similar to gator tail. One of my backpacking discussion lists got on waterproof stuff sacks versus pack covers. Have you ever left the pack cover at home and went with dry sacks? I always pack in zip lock bags, and have considered adding those white trash compactor bags to line the inside. But always take a cover.

Maurice Clarett
The Top 10 Completely Innocuous Things Maurice Clarett Was Up To 10> Hired to replace Carl Spackler at Bushwood -- he'll get that gopher once and for all! 9> Late for the Absolut Small-Arms Target-Shooting Championship. 8> Preparing to fend off that wacky Paula during his "American Idol" audition. 7> "I'm on my way to the university library to continue research for my doctoral thesis on firearm design of the late 20th century. Aren't these specimens marvelous?" 6> Doing volunteer work for his private-charity "Guns For Martinis" exchange program. 5> Running a tad bit late for his Tuesday night Russian roulette coffee klatsch. 4> It was "Automatic Weapons and Hard Alcohol Night" at the Columbus Clippers' game. 3> On his way to discuss a quality issue at his dealer's house. 2> Getting into character for his title role in Columbus Community Theatre's production of "RAMBO! The Musical!" and the Number 1 Completely Innocuous Thing Maurice Clarett Was Up To... 1> It's getting so a guy can't even take his sitcom concept "On the Road with a Drunken Lunatic Jock Armed to the Teeth" for a little market testing without everybody jumping all over his ass. Sweeney coming up in September?
Who is eligible for arbitration? A player becomes eligible for arbitration after reaching three years of Major League service (although how this three year term is defined is for smarter folks than me). Additionally, a player who has accumulated at least 86 days of service during the immediately preceding season and is among the top 17% of players who meet that criterion in total service time is eligible for arbitration. Protected Player: A player with less than 6 years of Major League service that is not signed to a multi-year contract. If that player has less than 3 years of service or was not eligible for salary arbitration, his contract can get renewed in the first two weeks of March or earlier for at least the minimum major league salary of 327K or the minimum minor league salary of $54,500, if he has at least 1 day of service or 2 years on the 40-man roster. Protected players can also receive split contracts with different salaries for the Majors and Minors. The player would receive the Majors' salary if on the 25-man roster or if on the 15 or 60-day DL. If the player was eligible for salary arb., he can sign a 1-year deal or can sign a multi-year deal. A player is eligible for arbitration if he has 3,4 or 5 years of service. A player who has 2 years of service and is deemed a "Super-Two" by an arbitrator can also be eligible for salary arb.

As a public service announcement. BYW snakes usually do not release venom when they strike humans. They need the venom to take down food. That bitof information will probably not be of much comfort if you gwt struck. Rattlesnakes are very pretty. I love seeing them in the wild.

The problem is most of their insurance policies only cover the instrument if the musician is carrying it. More at link He said replacement costs for an instrument in excess of 30,000 pounds ($57,000) were "not uncommon."

Arrest in the Jon Benet Ramsey Murder?
All I can figure out is nuclear annihilation and complex wars are too much for most people to grasp. They can't do much about a nuclear bomb getting dropped, but we can protect children from this kind of idiot. At least we think we can. I'm rambling here and not making sense, but it seems we avoid the stuff we have seemingly have no control over and jump on the stuff we seemingly have control over. Does that make sense? I was thinking about the police work in this case and how most crimes get solved not by police work. Has the Brown's Chicken murderer(s) been caught?

Steve Dahl & Garry Meier
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 07:34 AM) No denying they changed radio in this country, whether one wants to admit it or not. They were part of that wave, no doubt. There were guys in almost every major city that were all pushing boundaries on FM. Most faded away without talent to sustain them beyond the initial shows. Others took it bigger, (Stern for example) either by continuing to push boundaries, or savvy marketing. I've enjoyed Dahl because he actually has grown up. He's only a few years older than myself and the parallels are fun.

Gmail as a back up drive
I am using Gspace to back up some files to my gmail account. Has anyone tried this? I do not have to worry about security, these are image files that I wouldn't mind someone copying.

If you ever think you are having a bad week....
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) Looks awesome. I've done desert hiking before - it can be a big challenge. If you have young scouts, that will be a serious trip for them. Make sure you have your 2 gallons per day. The early plan is to not only have lots of water cached, but to have a support vehicle stop by on day three and meet up with us. The NPS finally provided a bear locker along the route to store water. I believe it is an upgrade from "find a spot and don't forget it". I am calling to see if water pilfering has been a problem. I also plan on offering, depending on participation, two options, a relatively lazy, South Rim and down and the more challeging Dodson Trail trip. It seems like a great time to just take a tarp, but I am certian we'll have to go with tents because of some fears of snakes, insects, arachnids, and other things that creep and crawl in the desert.

Once I even used a little duct tape on a small blister. Left it on for a couple days and it saved a bigger heel problem from forming. After one very rough trip, I actually fear blisters. Over Christmas break I am leading this trip to Big Bend
