  1. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Pheasant hunter here, also a big-time fisherman. I live in Chicago proper. I'm still having a hard time with the generalizations. I usually have a hard time with generalizations, but try and find a camo waterproof duck hunting suit on Michigan Avenue, then try in Joliet or Schaumburg. Where are you pheasant hunting? I was invited to a hunt club near the Ill/Wis line to hunt pheasant. I had never done birds besides a nad duck hunting experience. Pheasant is fun. I loved the walking and hunting. I'm forgetting the name of the town, they are also a huge speed trap. I think it's the last town on 12 before hitting Wisconsin.
  2. LMAO, I wonder if he would have called these WMD's if he wrote this today?
  3. Regarding the guy who was caught trying to have sex with a mannequin . . . QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) He'd be placed on the sex offenders list. So does that mean, if convicted, every time he moves he has to notify department stores about his whereabouts?

    Bush Legacy

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) Alright alright.........Who are you and what have you done with Tex?!?!?! I think I've been quick to praise Bush when he does things that are good, and I accept that he will appoint conservatives when given a chance. I believe he has done a nice job of finding diversity within conservatives. There are a number of ideological things that I disagree with him on, and sadly some of that has been on my conservative side. No matter how politicians like to tell us we will have a free lunch while racking up deficits, unless y'all are planning on leaving this country, or finding your way into a lower tax bracket, you and I will be repaying the debt, with interest. Fiscal responsibility was, IMHO, the best card the GOP had over the tax and spend Dems. Reagan taught everyone the don't tax and still spend road map to popularity. I still believe a tax and cut spending until out of debt, works for families and works for governments. The government borrowing money, giving it to us to spend, is like a parent buying approval from their kids. On a personal level, I "like" and "respect" Bush a whole lot. I'd rather he babysit my kids than Clinton. I would rather spend a weekend at Crawford than with the Clintons. I believe on the character issue, he's flawed like all us humans, but as good as we could expect. Like his dad, he seems to have lost enthusiasm and patience for the job.
  5. It flooded and it took me almost a year of trial and error to figure out why a big rain would cause it to flood. The basement water experts would only suggest their solution, and non fit. A combination of landscaping and a better sump pump fixed it all. And for well less than the $$$$ that a few companies quoted.

    Bush Legacy

I shouldn't have to check my Christian ideals at the door because I want to help, I am part of this country, and should have equal opportunity. So I have no problem with faith based through the government. I also don't have a problem with non-faith based solutions as well. It's a big country and a big budget. Yes, there were a few clinkers in his picks, but that's the case with every President. I think he tried and succeeded in diversity, in diversity of conservative ideology, and picked people of strong character. No one hires at a perfect 100% rate, especially on this scale. The early stages of 9/11 were very confusing. Who really could understand what was happening at the moment? Yes, the first 15 minutes could have been better, but in the overall scheme of things, I give George a high A grade.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) I'm not taking the bait, ol buddy. No bait. I want to really understand what y'all mean by bias. Do you believe that Jesse Jackson and Rush should be able to open the same newspaper and not see bias, or is it ok if Rush buys the Tribune and Jackson the Sun-Times and both are happy with that? Should the media be unbiased as an industry, by company, by program, or by story? I don't see how you and I could buy the same newspaper and not see bias. I also don't see how during the Lewinski scandel that good and bad coverage could ever be balanced in the same story and I sure wouldn't want the media to hold the story until Clinton did something right.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 07:11 AM) I believe it's ideology. I don't know what the answer is, but I do know it's broke and needs to be fixed. I don't really care what some around here say, the media has been biased to the left for 30 years (or at least since I began paying attention to more than the sports scores). I'm also not going to argue the point because it's a waste of time. I'm not going to convince anyone to change their minds, and they damn sure aren't going to change mine. Then why can't conservatives get a foot hold in the media? Are conservatives just not interested in journalism? Are they denied opportunties in colleges? How would you cover the Iraq War? How would you fix the media? I don't want to change yours, but I am willing to change mine. The media does look biased to me, to the right. I've always assumed if they are down the middle, they will look liberal to conservatives and conservative to the liberals.

    Bush Legacy

It is proably about the time most second term Presidents begin thinking about their legacy. I love George for a couple things. His initial push for faith based community groups to be a part of solutions. His cabinet appointments where, for the most part, excellent. His response during the 9/11 aftermath was incredible.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 05:48 AM) This makes me want to :puke The media is not biased. Yeah. Right. :headshake YASNY, How would you balance the news? By column inches? By topic? Would you not print a negative article until you have a positive to "balance" it? I am interested in how you would cover the Iraq War. Would you not cover any deaths to US Troops, or only print them on days when there is "good" news to balance? How many articles would you read on the repairs to gas lines? If they printed a story about 115 Iraqi kids who walked three blocks to school today, would you read it? Would you read it again tomorrow? I keep hearing bias in the reporting, but I'm not certain what the solution is. Why is the media so biased? Profit? Ideology?
  12. Does Illinois still have that patchwork of seasons? One for shotgun, one for blackpowder, one for archery, etc.? To stop the debate on which state produces the best tasting venison, I will offer, at no cost to y'all, a taste testing. Y'all send me, (frozen & overnighted), the best roast from your deer, and after tasting them all, I will announce a winner. Remember, state pride and all, so send me the choisest cut
  13. The discussion in another thread about codified discrimination against homosexuals has me interested. Just where would the US rank in terms of homosexual friendly laws? Perhaps not discussing societal reactions, but in terms of our laws? What countries would be considered better, and I assume there are a lot that are worse.

    Fav Love Songs

I was just listening to the Eagles No More Cloudy Days and realizing how love songs that grab my attention change through the years.
  15. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) The actual incredible statement was: Clearly, her lawyer has been watching way too many cinematic works of art of the Babes Behind Bars genre like “Chicks with Dicks” or “Caged Heat.” Were you looking at your video collection for those titles, or mine?
  16. I wonder how the dad has visitation without any contact with the mom?
  17. I guess only ugly women can go to prison. :headshake It would take too many pages to list how f***ed up that statement is. I wish I was amazed that someone with a law degree could be that stupid, but I'm not even mildly surprised.
  18. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) And some day if your gay or straight child asks you how you voted on the Texas referendum to codify this discrimination, what will you say? "I told everyone I was against it, even though I refused to vote against it"? Guilty as well, for about the same reason as Kap.
  19. Alice Grayson was to bake a cake for the Baptist Church ladies' group bake sale in Tuscaloosa, but she forgot to do it until the last minute. She remembered it the morning of the bake sale and after rummaging through cabinets she found a dusty old angel food cake mix in the back of her kitchen cabinet and quickly made it while drying her hair and dressing and helping her son Bryan pack up for Scout camp. But when Alice took the cake from the oven, the center had dropped flat and the cake was horribly disfigured. She said, "Oh dear, there's no time to bake another cake." This cake was so important to Alice because she did so want to fit in at her new church, and in her new community of new friends. So, being inventive and not wanting anyone to think she was not the perfect woman, able to handle all things at all times, or that God forbid, she was not participating in her church's bazaar, she looked around the house for something to build up the center of the cake. Alice found it in the bathroom -- a roll of toilet paper. She plunked it in and then covered it with icing. Not only did the finished product look beautiful, it looked perfect! Before she left the house to drop the cake by the church and head for work, Alice woke her daughter Amanda and gave her some money and specific instructions to be at the bake sale the minute it opened at 9:30, and to buy that cake and bring it home. When the daughter arrived at the sale, she found that the attractive perfect cake had already been sold. Amanda grabbed her cell phone and called her Mom. Alice was horrified ... she was beside herself. Everyone would know! What would they think? Oh, my she wailed! She would be ostracized, talked about, ridiculed. She would have to move! All night Alice lay awake in bed thinking about people pointing their fingers at her and talking about her behind her back. The next day, Alice promised herself that she would try not to think about the cake and she would attend the fancy luncheon/bridal shower at the home of a friend of a friend and try to have a good time. Alice did not really want to attend because the hostess was a snob who more than once had looked down her nose at the fact that Alice was a single parent and not from the founding families of Tuscaloosa, but having already RSVP'd she could not think of a believable excuse to stay home. The meal was elegant, the company was definitely upper crust old South....and to Alice's horror the CAKE in question was presented for dessert. Alice felt the blood drain from her body when she saw the cake, she started to get out of her chair to rush to tell her hostess all about it, but before she could get to her feet, the Mayor's wife said, "What a beautiful cake!" Alice, who was still stunned and trying to formulate what words she would use to explain the situation, sat back in her chair when she heard the hostess (who was a prominent church member) say, "Thank you, I baked it myself." Alice smiled and thought to herself, "There is a God".
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) Classic. Attack the messenger, not the message. Tex should be along anytime now to mock you. ahem, thanks buddy?
  21. See how great it is once congress gets involved? Gotta love the results of those hearings. I'm going to vote to reelect them all!
  22. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) I don't want to draw this out, but John Kerry was only in the position he was in because he was a "war hero"... he had NO ideas. That's why he lost. Not meaning to draw it out, but if you recall, Clinton's Vietnam era activities were deemed not important by Dems, and everything by the GOP. Then years later it was the GOP discounting and the Dems extolling the virtues. Tons of irony here. No consistency at all. Both sides should have been ashamed, but instead they just carry on with business as usual.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 07:02 AM) What I am implying??? Ah yes, I posted it so there must be some sinster evil conservative undertow that Dick Cheney told me to put there... Which side isn't seeing a slippery slope for abortion and which side isn't seeing the slippery slope for gun control? I'm not getting your point, and I assume it is a good one.
  24. There's an awful lot of crap on both sides, I agree. What I always find surprising is the groups that generally don't want to deploy troops, and want them back the fastest, are painted as unpatriotic and not "supporting the troops". Those that seem to find body counts acceptable if the Commander in Chief says it must be, are patriotic and support the troops. I also found it insanely ironic that during the last election the Dems had a war hero and the GOP did not. All the rhetoric from prior elections went out the window as they met secretly one night and exchanged campaign scripts. All the same crap was said, but this time it came from opposite sides. They are all in the same industry and best practices tend to creep into every company in the same industry. When voters start to demand better from their own party, we will begin to take back our government. As long as voters will defend any crap as long as it comes from "their team" we'll have crappy government.
