QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) So, what say all of you: Kristian boys' name or girls' name? Girls, and this highlights why men need to be involved. No guy would name his son Kristian. Jake, Bob, Mike, Dylan, Mark, Juan, Mohammed, Joe, Jim, Roger, Jason, Kurt, these are boys names. Kristian is the name of the boy without any dates. Seriously, could you imagine screaming out Kristian in the middle of an orgasm? Oh Kristian, faster . . .

AND THATS AN INDIANS LOSER
Pathetic, praying for Cleveland to lose. Not how I dreamed of winning the division. I was ready to toss my laptop out the window as Cleveland mounted that 9th inning rally.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) My GM here at home chewed me out to no ends the last time I got involved with time-consuming debate. I'm on a 1 post per thread per day limit now. I'm on the honor system & already violated it. That's weighing on my conscience already. I'll weigh in again tomorrow. Take care. Maybe we could have your wife post instead? I think there are many of us that like her already.

Mariotti chokes us again
QUOTE(iguchi=dank @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) If you've never called a buddy a dumbs*** before, well, I'm sorry to tex, but you need to grow up. I'm just sick of people saying, o no stop crying over mariotti bla bla bla. Nobody cries, people are talking on a message board used to talk. get over it. If you don't want to read the post, don't. Thank you for pointing that out, and congratulations on one month and 30 posts at soxtalk! And may I add, this is the same Mariotti thread that has been started weekly for years. Hell it may have been the first thread ever. The funny thing is. most of the time it's Mariotti is an ass, it's rarely Mariotti is wrong and here are facts to back it up. Now one reason is he is careful to not write things that cold be checked like that.

Buehrle comments on Everett complaints today
QUOTE(HeGone! @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) Yeah, no really. The last thing we need on this team is another distraction to keep our minds on anything else but winning the game 30,000 screaming fans = no effect but comments made days earlier cause them to lose focus?? 2-2 count, I wonder if he's going to throw a fast, hmmm, Carl's unhappy, Kong has no contract, Ozzie may quit, STRIKE 3 Damn I should have paid attention to that pitch. This stuff isn't the reason for the loses. The distraction defense is b.s.

I can usually manuver around and not have an issue, but I haven't a clue how I "minimized" it so I can't get it back and it is annoying having to do the alt click to see the menu options. Thanks! which drop down menus? The File Edit View Insert row??

I'm trying to understand the Op-Ed piece. If the media reported all her ideas from global warming to the federal deficit, wouldn't they we accused of too much coverage to someone who isn't an expert in any of this? I put that on the same level as Streinsand and global warming. I would not read an article on Sheehan's views on Domestic Terrorism.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) I'm dropping this...I guess I'm saying that the priest pedophiles joined the church to try and suppress their feelings...and I don't respect religion much, despite 12+ years in catholic schools, so I never should have gotten into this thread. Actually it's an interesting point that has been mentioned in many different ways. And perhaps some Priest did join because they wanted to live a celibate lifestyle. But there are no chastity belts, and anyone could, if they wanted, lead a chast lifestyle regardless of their occupation. I'm just not convinced a pedophile, knowing it's already illegal, would think that a vow of celibacy would be just the ticket to stop his urges. I would actually argue that a pedophile that was thinking at this level, would actually want a job that allows sex with adults in hopes of channeling those sexual urges.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) correct, pedophiles and homosexuals are not the same...I still say that something is wrong with celibacy....and that individuals that are attracted to kids or people who feel their own homosexuality is bad, have turned to priesthood as a solution to suppressing their feelings. There are too many examples of this happening among priests. Then explain all the other pedophiles, like teachers, that are not celibate? Pedophiliacs are attracted to occupations and other opposrtunties to be around children. Teachers, coaches, day care workers, medical field, etc. And if one is following their religion, is single, they should be celibate. Are you suggesting that males and females should be having casual sex so they avoid abusing children?

Hurricane Katrina
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) One of the scarier things to come out of this is the huge amount of police officers who left their posts during Katrina, and the wondering if this were a terror attack in another city, and the same chaos ensued, would their be this large of a desertion rate? In New Orleans 249 of an estimated 1700 police officers were AWOL during Katrina. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/09/27/D8CSMBN81.html In some ways I am surprised the number isn't larger. I know I don't have the temperment to be a cop in that situation. Not knowing if my children were ok or not would have me leaving my post. I know it in my heart. I'd get back as fast as possible, but I would have to know my children were safe.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) I think there is something inherently wrong with wanting to be a priest. Suppressing the sexual side of one-self is not normal. I think a lot of these guys grew up feeling homosexual urges, and then went into the church feeling they would just become celibate. And then all this s*** happens. Obviously some of these offenses are against women, but it seems like a majority are against young boys. What's my point? I don't know. You are in an interesting area. I don't know of any mainstream religion that approves of sex outside of marriage. So following your reasoning, anyone who is single and celibate, following their religions teachings, would not be normal? The Priesthood is not an easy life, and I really doubt these guys joined to fight their homosexual tendencies. It is also inaccurate to portray homosexuality and pedophilia with the same brush. We've had three or four female teachers convicted of pedophilia with young males. I don't think their heterosexual drives caused that.

Largest Anti-War Protest
QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Tex, EIB doesn't tell Rush what to say, they just pay him to talk! As for casey's mom, there isn't a democratic talking point she hasn't made. It is like she has a crib sheet of everything ever said about Bush and republicans in general, and is just reciting them from memory. I am sure she didn't just come up with all this on her own. At some point, if her quest was really about her grief over her son, don't you think she would have told the move-on.org people to get lost, and that by them trying to join forces with her, they are bastardizing her message? She had sincerity when she was sitting in the ditch by herself. Once all the Bush-haters joined in, it has corrupted her message into just another political rally. As for her getting paid, what is she living on? Hubby divorced her because she is wacko, she isn't 'working', so she is getting money from somewhere. How was she making it before the bandwagon got rolling? What would happen to Rush's rating if he suddenly started spouting liberal ideas? He's getting paid to chant the GOP party line. That's the show that EIB sells. In various posts, you've said almost every GOP talking point, are you getting paid? I've hit almost all the DEM talking points and I'm not drawing a check from them. It doesn't surprise me that someone that opposed to the war would be sympathetic to other DEM causes, does it surprise you? Or is she really a conservative, against the war, and adopted the other views so she can hang with Moore? If you had a cause that you really believed in and had your choice of telling it to dozens of people or linking with a GOP group and telling it to millions, which would you do? I think she is doing exactly what anyone would do. Grass roots, gathering steam, wider audience, different people. But if someone could show how she changed her views once she hit the big time, I would change my mind in a heart beat. But until then, I don't see the for sale sign on her opinion. What the money has done, as it always does in America, is bought credibility that should not be freely given. It bought a wider audience. It bought the media attention. Follow the money was the Watergate mantra, and modern day journalists have bastardized that to mean follow the story with the most money behind it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) The point is they have a 50 year pattern of removing felons from trouble situations, and moving them to situations where they can continue to commit felonies, all without reporting these crimes to the proper authorities. They are legally obligated to report these crimes, and they do not. Please don't think I am excusing this behavior, I was just offering for thought the perspective of the victims that want the Church to keep it quiet while removing the offending Priest. We should also balance the 50 year history with societies handling of sex crimes. Rape victims were routinely discredited, their clothes, their mannerisms, suggestions that they "wanted it". Churches weren't the only institutions that swept these things under the rug. I believe we have to address the full range of the problem, not just think we can dump it all on one doorstep.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Funny you should mention chemical companies as there was a piece on CNBC yesterday on how they are getting killed by higher raw material costs. In my industry there is a balance that usually equates to higher chem cost, lower labor. That being the more expensive chemicals save time and effort. Being the environmental, tree hugging, wacko, I avoid strong chemicals in favor of longer times and higher wages. I'm starting to look at some alternatives that would allow me to turn off the machines quicker. It doesn't do me any good to lose jobs to careless competitors who leave toxic waste dumps in their wake.

There is still the investigation, the trial, etc. It is arguably the most difficult area of our justice system in balancing the rights and compassion for the accuser, and the constitutionally guaranteed, innocent to proven guilty, right to face his accuser, accused. I'm not certain what I would do if faced with that choice. Take a pile of cash and deal with it, or forgo the cash, take time off of work, face testifying about something that would be very embarrasing, be challenged about my statements, etc.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) My next question would have been are you able to pass some of these costs on to your customers but with annual contracts that doesn't appear possible. I know that Im probably the exception when i say the hit Im taking is negligable. Actually it's still a percentage increase, the same for all of us, it's just a bigger dollar amount for bigger users. In that regard, the increased costs are even worse for those just getting by, but who own vehicles, and almost zero for the really poor who rely on mass transportation. The other costs are hidden. You mention passing it on, one of my big chemical suppliers just announced a price increase almost across the board. I'll never know, but suspect some of that is increased energy costs to them.

She embarrasses me as a liberal
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Is that your personal travel or a business expense? Both. Mostly from my business. After pulling the rig which gets 9 mpg, I am running two engines (4 gph) and two diesel fired hot water heaters (3.4 gph). At night, I would also sometimes have a generator running to power lights. Another additional cost is the elimination of a tax break I was receiving on my diesel. Previously I did not have to pay road taxes on the fuel, because it was not being used "on the road". That program was eliminated. I have some annual contracts and basically have to suck it up and hope for lower fuel prices and improve work flows to decrease the work time with everything running. So in that regard, it has been a good thing. And as a sole proprietor, there really isn't much of a difference in personal and business, it's still money out of my pocket.

You can't just blame the Church for the secrecy. If the victims come forward, the Church can't hide it. Problem is, these are situations where both the accused and the accuser do not want publicity. I have a hard time finding fault with someone who does not want the public attention of coming forward and reporting having been abused.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) I get really good gas mileage so the added hit for me is only about another 20-30 bucks a month at the pump. I can absorb that easily. Hurricane Katrina
I wonder how to make it better? If officials can't be trusted to have accurate information, would it be better to come on the air and say there is no accurate news available from New Orleans? We can't confirm the numbers dead, dying, raped, and OK? Would that cause more panic? Even just pointing a camera down a street doesn't give an accurate picture if it happens to show the only looter. I hope journalists will be studying this to improve their disaster coverage. I also blame it a bit on the business side. With so many competitors, all trying to attract eyeballs and ears, there is a crush of pressure on "getting the stories" and the "bigger and juicier" the better. When I tried to post that there were thousands of volunteers helping and that most people were good, I was shouted down with stories of death, dying, rapes, and murders.
