  1. Could we have a permanent Marriotti thread? He always has thought provoking columns that Sox fans love to discuss. I don't think any true Sox fan ever misses one of Jay's Sox articles, in fact everyone seems to look forward to them. If we limit it to one thread, we'd have a nice history.
  2. I like eating peanuts and stuff right before the cut off and seeing what comes out.
  3. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) -drudgereport.com ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ politically motivated to be certain. This is going to be a giant waste of taxpayer's money.
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) I'm reminded of a scene in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. That is one of the funniest scenes evah!
  5. Seriously, the Dems did an end around the State's Attorney who should have had jurisdiction, now they are grasping at straws. He's not going to be taken down by this. The Dems took their best shot and failed two years ago. At some point they are going to try and nail him for jay walking. He out maneuvered the Dems with the redistricting ploy, which was slimy as anything ever pulled off, but legal. It's purely politically motivated. Let the voters in Sugarland vote him out if they choose to.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Of course it hasn't hurt them in Texas...Tom Delay's mid-session Redistricting locked all of the Republican Congressmen in that state into districts that are as safe as humanly possible. Actually mid-decade would be more appropriate and accurate. After both parties agreed to a map, two years later DeLay orchestrated the redistricting, something that had never been done before. Don't you want a strong leader that would press any advantage that America has? He's get Bin Laden before lunch, lower gas prices, and cure male pattern baldness. If Hammer needed two wins the final week, he's have 3 before the week started and an agreement for a 4th, if necessary.
  7. He'll be found innocent. It's just the Dems and the liberal media running scared of the next Reagan. :rolly Hammer '08

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) While I would be thrilled we won the divison, that would still kinda blow to win it like that... It's the why waste any effort and win by a full game when you can win with a tie theory. But imagine leading the division for 161 games. As painful as that is, I laugh for some reason at that scenario, as long as there is a game Tuesday.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) I don't understand the logic behind this post at all... If I was a Yankees, Angels, or Red Sox fan I would be more than happy with the White Sox winning the Central. And what makes you think they 'can't stand' us being in first place? Is this a conspiracy theory or a woe-is-me philosophy? I think it's kind of like why can't we beat Detroit? They look at the Sox and can't believe a team with no offense, no .300 hitter, three different closers this season, and Oz for a manager, could be winning like we do. Basically a "How can we not be beating these guys?" Variation: Sitting in Philly and thinking the Padres are in the playoffs and we are facing elimination to the team that Texsox predicted would take the wild card in a soxtalk poll. I believe Tex was the only person to take the Astros.
  10. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) other teams' fans just can't stand the fact the White Sox are still in first place that's why you build up a huge lead and beat the teams you're supposed to beat early in the season. And half of White Sox fans can't believe we're still in first place, BYW dawg, we are puking, we are disgusted, go read a few of the threads around here, but I assume you can understand we don't like hearing that from an opposing team's fans on a White Sox fan site. BTW, you may have more fun at WSI. Just ask them about Marriotti's column today and why attendance was so low at the cell.
  11. QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) I don't want to start an argument here, but this whole situation as an Indians fan makes me want to puke. The Sox have a golden oppritunity against probably the second worst team in the AL right now to lock this thing down and they lay two eggs in a row. And the Tribe gets stuck with the scrapiest team since the break in their next to last series. If I was a Sox fan right now (with all due respect) i'd be disgusted. These guys have got about as much chance of getting out of the first round as a AA club. They'll probably make it to the dance, but IMO they flat ass don't deserve to. So in your mind Spring Training was extended to the All-Star break? Just because your team didn't show up until the season was half over, the Sox don't deserve a playoff spot? Play all 162 games next time. BTW, Welcome to Soxtalk If y'all can be civil we'd love to hear from an Indians fan. Y'all have a great core and I expect will be contending for a long time.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) haha...of course it did. at least they were pre-apologizing for Joe. When Blum stepped up they both fell silent, I think they were both shocked that he was batting in that situation. Gotta love Ozzie's gut instinct

    Relax

It is only decided on the field if it means one team's season is over. A ie between division v. wildcard is head to head, within division, within league, coin flip (IIRC)
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Nevermind the fact that he also hasn't had an AB in over a week... I was glad to hear Hawk and DJ comment on how good of a job Borchard did during his AB, getting solid wood on the ball on a tough pitch on the outside corner. Of course that came after 5 minutes of fore shadowing excuses. How difficult it is, etc.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) An Ozzie clip this morning on AM1000 stated that Contraras would start Sunday if the game decided the division. Don't shoot the messenger, please. I was just clarifying. I assumed you had heard something. I'm hoping Ozzie meant play off spot, not division title. Because that would be the first time he mismanaged pitchers. What do you think? Contrares to win a division or first round start?
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Contraras will start on short rest if the division is on the line Sunday. The division or just a playoff spot? I'm not certain that "wasting" a start just to win the division is better than having him start game 1 of the playoffs. If the playoff spot is assured, trot Brandon out there and let Contraras start game 1. Division title + Contraras start
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) You're leadoff hitter is only guaranteed to leadoff the game ONE FREAKING TIME. The order and what guys are paid to do is what matters, not how many outs when the sequence starts. No matter if he comes up with 0 or 2 outs he needs to get on base. The #2 guy needs to get him over and the #3 needs to drive him in. That's why the order is in place and so important. The team stacks their players in an order for a reason. If it wasn't important, you could just line them up by height.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) Its all perspective. Baseball is just a game, this is real life. Prayers for the Crede family, and all involved. Obviously you aren't a true fan, probably just a bandwagon jumper. This is the height of the division race.
  19. In summary Get rid of all the players who's value is high (had good seasons) to Replace players who's value is low (had poor seasons) and Keep all the average players Doesn't that just shift the problem around? Now what was good sucks and what sucked may be good? At best, it produces a perfectly average team. That's buillding a winner
  20. We need to build without tearing down. Sadly, it always comes down to getting rid of the better players to shore up another area. It isn't building, all it does is scrape the high spots and fills in holes. It's the lollipop of mediocrity, one lick and you suck forever.
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) Yea, maybe Hillary Clinton to round out both of their extremeisms. Now there's a dream ticket. The Hammer/Hillary. Talk about the need for Preparation 'HH' - what a pain in the ass that ticket would be. She is a lawyer, and it seems as if he's going to need a whole herd of them . . . Sugarland will never be the same without Hammer :headshake
  22. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Go see my post on the "Preparation H" ticket... Hammer/Hillary. A great American get's smeared and you laugh damn anti-Texan media bias
