  1. Could someone give me three reasons why Randy Johnson would want to finish his career in Chicago? Money? Championship? Hometown boy? He has his pick of teams. What would move Chicago into prime consideration?

Some new members appear confused by our policy regarding 4-letter words. Despite popular thinking, some 4-letter words are frowned on here. For new, and old, members I offer this substitution guide. Banned word Cubs -- Official sub ScRubs Banned word Sosa -- Official sub Shamee While not quite official and not exactly 5-letters, it is becoming increasingly fashionable to substitute greed son of a b**** for Maggs.
  3. Do the laws against double posting apply where the poster is, the server is, or the person filing out the complaint? I believe it calls for the death penalty on some anal WS bulletin boards, fortunately not here. This has got to be the most bizarre argument I have ever read here, and we've had some bizarre ones. Anyone catch the irony of the thread being titled "Whose story do you believe?"

I owe that kid $2, I bet him he wouldn't do it
  8. I'd join you with that lung donation* But it always seems to come down to this kind of crap (purely made up) Buerhle, Konerko, and a prospect for Johnson. We can never seem to sign that over the top pick without giving up a piece that put us on the edge to begin with. I am beginning to believe we will need to really catch lightening in a bottle via our farm system. *but only to encourage and hold your hand while you were being wheeled into surgery
  9. Problem is we cannot just *add* him to this team. We have to give up a lung. If it was simply adding him, I'm with you all the way.
  10. Actually I wonder if the Doctor who treated golfer Jose Maria Olazabal, Dr. Hans-Wilhem Muller-Wolfhart, has any ideas? Olazabal went from career ending, misdiagnosed ailment, to walking in a few weeks. I think he was also in Vienna.
  11. I heard this little company in San Francisco has an ointment you can rub on . . .
  12. Nah, neither one was a Chicagoan wanting to pitch back home. I'm learnin' y'all this. A Texan pitchin' for the Lone Star State is a powerful thang.
  13. does that subtract one post from 05s total and add it to yours?
  14. Overhead on a Chicago expressway . . . "Bossman, I got nothing to fill that pot hole" "Just dig another hole where no one goes and hope for the best." To fill these holes, without creating new, we need one of two things to happen 1. Fill them via free agency. That would most likely take a payroll increase. 2. Someone in the organization to have a RoY season Marlin's won with Willis lighting up the league. We do not have the payroll to just load up on MLB proven talent. We need guys to catch fire and perform out their asses. Pray some of these guys find a magic spell.
  15. Or the Ron Santo and Don Kessinger eras, oops we were discussing HoFers
  16. Nice work. Good use of pics to have the eyes heading in the same direction.

Stay tuned, tomorrow we hear the "she seduced me" and "how can a 12 year old overpower a school teacher" version of the story. Then we never hear about this one again.
  18. Frank is a big human and lower body stuff is tough especially at his age. OMG, I just said "at his age" for a guy younger than me One thing Frank has going for him is huis workout ethic. I cannot remember a time in his career that he reported to camp out of shape.
  19. Dropping the "me" part in his statement for a moment. Slightly rephrased makes sense for a coach to say "we are playing with the guys who are here and can give 110% to the team. To have any player wonder if their position is dependent on *if* a player will un-retire and join this team is unfair to the players, unhealthy for the team, and unfair to Malone." Somewhere in Kobe's statement I think is concern for his teammate who may be sitting there wondering if he is just warming a seat for Malone. I can understand wanting to encourage your current teammate. But the way Kobe said it was just wrong. But then again, I am not a Kobe fan.
  20. 3 Pages and no one has mentioned the main purpose of Pale Hose Talk, to feed posters to Sex, Lies, and Politics. It's December, nothing is happening besides a parade of big name free agents who want to visit Michigan Avenue before signing with some big bucks team. Head on over to SL&P and discuss music, politics, things that are happening around the world, Christmas gifts, and anything else you care about. If you accidentaly slip and say Ddamn, piss, s***, or f***, we will just assume you care about something. Couple of tips: Beatles are cool, do not dis the Beatles Aussies Rock we like Aussies Puerto Rico Sox fans are very cool Steff is doable, doable may not mean what you think it means Beer is a major food group, any beer questions are capably handled by FlaSoxxJim Psych homework help is available from ChiSoxyGirl And Nascar is not a Sport I mean it is a Sport, like Golf Golf is not a sport, I mean golf is a sport like Nascar It all makes sense eventually
  21. It really depends on how this is structured. Years is just one part of the package. For example 1 year $8 million is not as good as 2 years @ $4 million per. 6-Years, all incentive driven, off the league minimum would be awesome for some team. Clauses that void the contract if the knee proves unhealthy wouuld make a multi-year possible. Clauses that severly reduce his earnings if he cannot play OF could also be used. So the balance becomes a give and take. If Maggs wants more year he would probably have to take on more of the risk on his health. If a team only wants to give him one year, the pay would go up.
  22. Cynic alert No use cutting anyone off until everything is finalized Remember all those championships we won with Tom Seaver? Another HoF pitcher spending his twilight years on the Sox.

Big deal, so a tire falls off, does it need all 4-wheel drive? What's wrong with 3-Wheel drive. My Big Wheel drove just fine.

Years ago the Sun-Times coordinated a program where you could answer a letter to Santa with a gift. I asked for one of the letters. It was from a young girl living near the Chicago Stadium. She wanted the types of things that, for my kids, my wife and I would casually pick up on the way home from work, not the type of stuff you would expect as Christmas gifts. An option was to drop off the gift at the school, which I did. First I called and made certain it was ok. The school administrator I spoke with mentioned to not go overboard and add stuff like bikes and such, as they would wind up getting stolen by bigger kids. In the end I bought some clothes and a couple family games (I prayed she had someone to play the games with) a couple books, no matter how small the gift was, I wrapped each one. The school she attended was locked, the only way in was with a Chicago cop. I took a buddy with me who wasn't certain he wanted to walk to the school or stay in the car. It was a quiet ride home. Everything was signed from Santa so I never found out if she liked all the stuff. To this day I cannot imagine trying to be a parent in those circumstances. I would be totally unequiped to teach my kids the types of things they would need to know to survive. During this Christmas break, and during summer vacations, High School and College kids will take mission trips to Mexico and other far away locals. I suppose it is an eye opening, life changing event. However, I wonder why they cannot find it in their hearts to instead stay home and find a little girl whose letter to Santa isn't being answered.
