  1. Wasn't Piaget after Skinner and wouldn't his theories be more relevant to language development? I Piaget
  2. Damn millionaire baseball player having emotions like normal people. :fyou Companies merge everyday and people have to go work somewhere else and they don't whine and pout. Baseball players aren't like you and me. They are different. All those millions proves it. They should understand if the GM thinks the team is better off without them. Now an average Joe or Jane who is perhaps leading their company in sales or whatever when they hear that the company thinks they can do better, they don't pout or whine, they just realize the company is doing what is best for the company, and work extra hard.
  3. I feel better about the pitching.
  4. Tell the truth, you are bored at work and what to pad the post total
  5. And what difference does this make? So the offer came with a "if approved by MLB". Aren't ALL contracts approved by MLB, not just the big ones? I cannot think anyone here thinks Maggs is coming out ahead for turning down the last offer. He lost that gamble when he collided in the outfield. The Sox may have dodged a bullet on this one. I cannot see 5/70 looking like a bargain.
  6. Would the player's or owner's insist on more stringent regulations regarding deferred compensation. I find it strange that either one would have negotiated less flexibility into their contracts.
  7. From that portion quoted above and the few articles I just read, it seems they could just fund the principle within two years. Taking say $20,000,000 if it is deferred for 20 years, the principle amount would be lower than if they deferred for 10 years. Hence the negotiations. It may only need $5,000,000 set aside instead of $10,000,000.
  8. A-Rod was deferred More than 20 years. Not saying that Maggs is in the same position. That is what is meant by having it fully funded within two years.
  9. Steff,do you have a link to the CBA? I was searching and counldn't find it on-line?
  10. I wonder how much a cap in Cooperstown is worth?
  11. Imagine this scary scenario, the Cubs laughed at the Bartman incident. Got loose, Gonzo doesn't bobble the easy ground ball etc. etc.
  12. Loyalty has to be a two-way street. Thank Curt Flood for this. I would not want a career that allowed the company to tell me where to live. I support the players having free agency. Too bad it never is pretty.
  13. My understanding is the ruling was more for eavesdropping on the other kid, not her kid. Mexico has a much better system. Guilty until proven innocent. You have to work your ass off to be found innocent in Mexico if the cops think you did something. The burden isn't on the state, it is on the accused, or as they would say the criminal. The cops there think you shoplifted something you are tossed in jail until you can prove you didn't do it.
  14. I Steinbrenner Didn't we just have this conversation regarding Gary Carter and the Expos?
  15. Lee is the one person currently in the organization who I believe could replace Maggs in the lineup. Dye needs to improve on Lee, and we are marginally ahead. We shouldn't ask Dye to be Maggs. Lee becomes Maggs and he has the talent IMO to do that. We're treading water but not sinking.

    Honestly

sadly in this country some people are more "equal" than others.
  18. LMAO. I do not believe it is the player's choice. But I would bet against it also. He needs a few more Magg like years to even think about HoF. Those will come with another team. Think Kenny will trade for him in a mid season push?
  19. Let's take a ride in the way back machine and set the dial for last off season. When the Rangers - Red Sox - White Sox trade fell apart there were questions: A. Could Nomar play for the Red Sox after this? B. Could Maggs play for the White Sox after this? C. Could A-Rod play for the Rangers after this? We got the answers.
  20. Healthy or injured, he was leaving after this season. This actually is a nice smokescreen for both the player and the club. Hopefully we have another .300 hitter waiting in the wings for a chance.
