  1. I watched and could tell what they were doing, it was all a blurr. I did have fun listening to the scanner and the communication between the driver and crew. To those that claim NASCAR isn't a sport, how about Horse Racing? Is the jockey an athlete?
  2. The best essay I have read on this was from a lesbian who suggests that the government should only recognize civil unions of two people. Let people, who so choose, get married by clergy and in their faith, but the government would only recognize the civil union, not the religous union.
  3. Like the ultimate Country Western Song, I though I would take a stab at the ultimate soxtalk thread . . . I think Koch's effort to maintain the lead that Buerhle built while Valentin was benched for the final five miles of the NASCAR 500 at Gaza Strip was phenominal. Despite suicide bombers, attack helicopters, and chants of this is not a sport, he maintained his composure and won the damn thing. Here's the delivery person for his trophy
  4. How do you know, during the race, that they just adjusted the suspension or whatever they do? Are there secret hand signals that only fans know?
  5. My favorite Dikta moment was during his first season he was living near 45 and 120 and ordered a bunch of pizzas from Pat's Pizza in Grayslake where I was delivery boy. A bunch of players and coaches were over. They tried to pay in autographs and I told Dikta the only autograph I wanted was one on his check The other guys cracked up and tipped me $50 for busting his stones. My favorite Diana Dikta story was when she tried joining a couple Country Clubs and was denied unless Mike was the primary. She started a group called Wives or Regular Members (WORMs) and finally joined a club near Crystal Lake (Bull Valley?)
  6. And that is one of the challenges facing the sport. How does the casual fan know what adjustments are being made?
  7. I have it on the double live, and it needs to be seen to enjoy. I thought Burn Down the Mission sucked until I saw it live at Poplar Creek. Damn that is such a cool song.
  8. Still I was a very wee lad when the Hawks won the Stanley Cup. I would like to actually remember it.
  9. That was true about NASCAR up until 10 years ago. No matter what you think about NASCAR's brand of racing, they have done a tremendous job in broadening their fan base from the confederate flag waving, straw hat wearing, chewin' tabacco crowd. IIRC, it is the fastest growing TV sport the past 5 or 6 years and the only one whose TV rights are actually increasing in value. Sport or not, it is very popular.
  10. Now I know we'll get him, but only if the Royals are 10 back and going no where by the end of next month.

I came from the M*A*S*H era. even had a vodka IV bottle for parties. I was stuck at a business meeting and missed the finale. I enjoy the reruns, especially on those rare occassions when I do not know the story line. Very rare.
  14. With all due respect to their hockey gifts and efforts . . . f*** Every Sutter before and after him f*** Pulford f*** Wirtz It's a nightmare.
  15. Officials issue appeal to ID abandoned girl :fyou parents. Why is it harder to get a drivers license than to have a child?
  16. Yo, don'ty bring chess into this. The year I played the US Open, I was physically sick by the end of the tournament. 2 Weeks of nightly 3-4 hour games. The stress was a killer. Chess is a sport, the sport of Kings and Queens.
  17. Brando, you've spent some time overseas and have a much different perspective. The US has always enjoyed much lower prices then the rest of the world.
  18. As would be bird watching. Interesting that the label "sport" is so important to their fans. Does it in some way imply legitamacy to the races?

Of all the shows that have gone off the air, which do you miss most and would like to see new epsiodes?
  20. Basically it is a disabled Vet, (not from Vietnam) who is selling this very personal momento to help pay for his kid's college. I hope the high bidder us real. When I see zero feedback on a large item with publicity, it always seems to be a fake bid. God Bless him.
