  1. Do you mean like the Lt Governor in Texas stating he'd die for the economy?
  2. I'm thinking beyond this. We have stats on how many people die from bee stings, cancer, heart attacks, lightening, etc.
  3. How does that even work? I never thought of this before but is there a national database that all cause of deaths are reported to?
  4. We just had a school district update from our Superintendent. In about one week we passed out 25,000 iPads, Chromebooks, and mobile hotspots to students. We've distributed over 100,000 meals. We are pulling coaches from the distribution of meals and tech to allow us back into our classrooms full time. The video that was shown with the parents being so grateful put tears in my eyes.
  5. Six months or a year from now it will be interesting to see which country's health systems were better equipped to handle this.
  6. Obviously the teams front office staff are working, but it seems a little strange somehow.
  7. Most of the ship is run by people of all nations. The flags of convenience allow them to operate with the "best for them" employment laws. When I was working for a "twin plant" company in Mexico we have US employees on a Mexico payroll (production primarily) and a US payroll (anyone we could say officed in the US.
  8. I've come around to the position that it should depend on the number of American workers first and what country they are registered in second.
  9. Any thoughts on the best charities to give to during this crisis?
  10. My school has a tradition. It's wear your favorite baseball jersey day. Teachers and students really get into it. Instead, we're home. Sigh
  11. What doesn't make sense to me is a on - off switch to work. I do see returning to work looking more like a wave. Perhaps NY gets back first since they are getting hit hard first. Perhaps by the time we're talking lifting the restrictions, even partially, we will have a better handle on who would be the better choice and have some sort of back to work priority. Young to old. Maybe a test to confirm you had the virus and are now healthy.
  12. The same was said for social security a few generations ago.
  13. Cuomo, right now, would win in a landslide.
  14. He will come back better than before - he'll be able to crush Yeti coolers with his refurbished arm.
  15. Yep. But it will be their enemies fault as it happens . . .
  16. His bunker mentality strategy is brilliant. It makes his followers feel smarter than anyone else. It's borderline cultish behavior but absolutely brilliant in it's execution.
  17. Is anyone else seeing an uptick in "busy work" at work? Damn, it's like my athletic department opened a file of "if we have time lets . . ." projects.
  18. On the music front a good friend of mine performs on South Padre where he and his wife happen to own a restaurant. He was playing for customers who would stay in their cars while waiting for their take out. The city shut down his playing because he was "drawing a crowd". The next day he had zero take out orders.
  19. Great question. My first take is those clubs that are "labors of love" for an owner may not survive. I'm thinking of a couple places I remember where the owners wanted to break even while supporting local musicians. What are you thinking?
  20. I'll be pessimist. Are they running out of beds? When supply starts to shrink decisions change. Someone who was hospitalized on Sunday may not have been hospitalized if they came in on Tuesday.
  21. It will require the corporations to participate in the election cycles. AKA donations
  22. Reacting to the changing work place is important. My school district announced they would be paying our substitutes while we were distance learning. That made me very happy.
  23. Like individuals, I wanted to see corporate help limited to US corporations, disallowing items like cruise ships that fly flags of convenience. Now I hope the oversight committee considers how many US citizens that the company employees and the likelihood of them continuing to employee US citizens.
  24. It's what they can negotiate at this point. Earlier reports claim the CBA calls for number of games in the season. Which to me means credit would include a year that they play the required number of games but the playoffs or WS are canceled.
