  1. From CNN 21% of Americans believe there are survivors? Where are they? 54% believe they are searching in the right place? If that was true, the plane would have been found amiright?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) If there's one thing I've given Robin it's a free pass, right? Robin still has a job, so he's been getting a free pass.
  3. Some excitement like this is good for baseball.

Greg, congratulation on hitting 10,000 non Ozzie posts. Manager receive too much credit and too much blame. I really hope Ozzie finds a full time media gig. I like exciting guys in the press box. Has an ex-Sox manager since Tony La Russa had a decent career after leaving the Sox?
  5. ^^ Baseball isn't cheap entertainment anymore. This is why the Sox need more bandwagon jumpers. The folks who come out to a game or two a season. Too many were drawn to the "Friendly Confines" and the neighborhood. They packaged the experience and filled the stadium. Yes, that meant the true, intelligent, Cub fans, and there are a lot of them, are drowned out by the idiots. But that's the crowds were competing for.

I noticed that the partiipants paid much closer attention in the Wilderness class than any other First Aid class I attended. It could be that the participants are more self selected, I really hope it was because people recognized the differences you mentioned. We estimated that in our program the most time it would take to get someone to a full trauma center was about 6 hours, and that was with a fluke wind condition on a sailing trip. There were scenarios that could happen on one of our fishing adventures that everyone's cell phones could be useless, that no boats passed by, that it would be much longer, but the chances were very slim that that could happen. Injury or illness at sea was the number one concern.
  7. I don't think they should do anything special for the Cub / Sox series than they would for whomever the Rockies have an interleague rivalry with. When you start looking at the scheduling and looking at the entertainment value or the ability to sell tickets, you get one step further away from athletic competition and closer to show business. There is a blend that has to happen or the sport collapses, but I don't necessary want to sell the soul of baseball and athletics for staged for profit series.
  8. OK, I'll say it. This series needs Ozzie.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) I feel we hear this about every Olympics/World Cup and nothing is ever done. This. It seems like their are dire warning about every venue in the past 30 years. Then they pull a miracle out of their ass.
  10. I found this quote that I thought added some insight on defining "rookie"
  11. Always cool when someone can remember a game that was played years ago in such detail. I guess I was alsways killing too many brain cells to remember
  12. When neither team had won a WS in forever, the game(s) mattered in the we suck less than you kind of way. Now, meh. It's just another series on the schedule. Too bad the Sox have to play in such a dump.
  13. A couple bi-partisan issues that are shaping this economy and I believe they are tied together. Much of our economy is based on the idea that highly valued companies employ a lot of employees. For the most part in the past companies valued at $100,000,000 employed more people than companies which were valued at $10,000,000. That is not true anymore. We've seen companies change hands for over $1 billion that had fewer employees than the corner convenience store. Another factor is cheap technology now allows companies to increase their profits with fewer and fewer employees. Employees are now often times the most expensive resource a company has. If there are increased profits, there is little need to employ more people to increase profits even more. We could also add that an employee in a low wage area can do the job as effectively as a person in the US. We have this theory that if we allow the richest people to keep more of their wealth they will create jobs here. Why would they? We have to rethink our tax code and economy from the ground up. We're using 19th Century thinking to 21st Century problems. End of non partisan thoughts. I remember way back in the old days the predictions were that robots and technology would bring about the 30 hour work week. Instead we have 40+ hour work weeks with many professionals working 50 or more hours. Was this because employees demanded it or employers? Companies are employing fewer and fewer people as profits increase. We need solutions based on this. If we are to continue to cut taxes then figure out a way to pay for everything.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Good news Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN · 5m Chris Sale is playing looong toss. He's back at 180-200 feet or so. #WhitesSox Bullpen Monday will happen at Wrigley Field. Best reason to go to Wrigley.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 2, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) Or both. He could be traded and be back next year. Take over his salary, maybe a prospect and a player to be named later. He would be the fifth guy in MLB history to be traded for himself. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 2, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) I really dont see how you could deduce that, these guys are trying to get good paychecks. Goodwill is far overstated This. These guys know what the other players at their position make, are competitive, and want the best paychecks. Just like real people with ordinary jobs.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 2, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) Anyone ever take a Wilderness First Aid class like this one offered through REI? http://www.rei.com/class/46423/market/340 It was required when I ran a high adventure sea base for the Boy Scouts. We operated in the shadow of million dollar condos and huge resorts. Calling 911 was going to be far more appropriate response. But when we were off shore sailing or fishing well up the Laguna Madre, it would have been useful. It was a big stretch for me from Community First Aid and CPR training.

  18. https://www.facebook.com/utpanamerican/post...0?stream_ref=10 My university has the NCAA leader in wins and complete games and is on the NCAA watch list for pitcher of the year. The link is slightly out of date, he recorded another victory in a 3-1 win last night. I'm certain someone from a bigger D1 school will win the award, the Western Athletic Conference doesn't, and probably shouldn't, get that must respect. But it's kind of cool to see a guy around campus that is getting noticed nationally. It's been a while. The team was really solid in the 1970s, the best season finishing fourth in the College World Series. A friend of mine played for Michigan State and remembers coming down here in February or March and losing a couple games. They would be sun burned after the first game. They had been playing inside all winter while the south Texas teams have been outside.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) All of the old timers think that. The problem with that is they always threw that much and the guys who couldn't got weeded out early on. Today the pitchers are coddled, not used to it, and they are trying to save every pitcher. So the ones who would have been hurt early are still pitching and can't take that workload. But who are they ahead of? Guys that can take the strain but aren't chosen? Or have we eliminated pitchers that are workhorses?

I wished I had more time now to reply, I will add a couple more in a PM this weekend. First off college grads have been having all sorts of problems the past decade it seems like. My thoughts, and remember I don't know you are . . . Find a job, any job to get in the job market. Start by researching best firms to work for in X. Or best firms to work for with autism. Narrow it down, forget for a moment that you are a chemical engineer and get working. Next, think about jobs that would prove that your negative isn't a negative. Sales jobs may be way out of your comfort level, but they are easy to get, and since you income is zero now, a straight commission type thing won't be a financial risk. I hired a lot of people as a General Manager for a large regional company. I was a sucker for someone with something to prove and a chip on their shoulder. If I was convinced you wanted a chance to prove the world wrong, you made my final cut. I'll take hard work and a underdog mentality every time if you want to prove the world wrong. (probably why I am a Sox fan). The toughest job to find is the one when you aren't working. More than a few people here will tell you tales of being out of work for a while, getting a job, and having three more offers that month. But go somewhere, anywhere, and start punching a time clock. As you said, a lot of people have autistic disorders. Most find their way in the world. Find jobs, date, get married, have kids, and live happily ever after. It will happen for you.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) (I try to buy and hold for 8-10 years Which means you bought your first car at what, 10?! I hate vehicles and everything about them. I was never a "car guy". They are a necessary evil that are useful like a hammer, not exotic, exciting, or whatever. That has saved me thousands. Everyone I know that has been in the car business tells me a variation on this rule of thumb. Take care of friends, family, and referals and pound anyone else as hard as you can.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 06:31 AM) I am going to ask of those posters who are way smarter than I to answer this, is it the weather or is it the pitching stress of learning different types of pitches at the young age ? I had a great opportunity to meet Nolan Ryan at his Bassin-Inn Restaurant on Choke Canyon Lake (now closed sadly). Someone asked why pitchers seem to get injured more today (circa 2003) than when he was playing. His reply was that we pamper kids too much. He through hundreds of balls a day, year round, growing up. He believed the best way to develop pitching muscles is to use pitching muscles. His .02
  24. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) What happens if they get hot and are actually in 1st place around the deadline? They probably stand pat on a couple guys. But there needs to be a couple upgrades before this team has a true chance.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) Well, let's be honest, it is a bit faux outrage. This dude's been doing this kind of stuff for decades and the drum beat to get him out of the league never started until now and he was out of the league in what, 4 days? I'm not at all suggesting it's unjustified by the way. I'm just saying I can see Cuban's argument about how this might play out in the future, depending on what by-law/provision they used here. Isn't this a case of running out of chances? I assume he has been warned, privately probably, about these sorts of actions.
