  1. Nanny Staters. Interesting point. Would the U.S. be better or worse off if societal norms pushed people towards a healthier diet and exercise or had more of a we don't care what you do attitude? Let's suppose that a healthier workforce helps the U.S. to better compete in economic and social wars. Is it the role of the government then to promote what is in the country's best interest?
  2. If only they printed standings in the business section of the newspaper.
  3. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) Too much methamphetamine in the batter. I personally love Whataburger so much that i plan trips to texas for it. My daughter is coming here for spring break and has three or four Whataburger trips planned.
  4. Based on a too small sample size I am liking Baylor. Of course I will be cheering for UT loudest.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) Sink only as a last act of desperation. ^^^
  6. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) I have had 5 Guys three times at three different locations. At every one, I was given a soggy bag full of limp, greasy fries. Absolutely terrible. And even more annoying when your restaurant is filled with arrogant "Best Fries Ever!" posters. I love the bag of greasy fries.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) I've gotten to the point where I can't stand Subway - the bread is all dried out and nasty. We don't have Pollo Loco up here I don't think but I liked it pretty good when we've stopped in places south of here. Try the flatbread.
  8. Anyone getting married? I'm available
  9. Click here to get ordained.
  10. Italian Villa or Italian Village? I love sending visitors to Italian Village. They are always impressed. Not always the food exactly, but it is exactly what they expected from a Chicago I-talian joint.
  11. QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) I like this idea. 60's Gary Peters 70's Dick Allen 80's Carlton Fisk 90's Frank Thomas 00's Mark Buehrle Right Now ... Paul Konerko Almost the same 60's Luis Aparicio 70's Wilbur Wood 80's Carlton Fisk 90's Frank Thomas 00's Mark Buehrle Right Now ... Paul Konerko Overall Buehrle
  12. For Texas BBQ, single location places with pits that are 50+ years old are the way to go, but in a pinch, Rudy's is good for a chain. I thought 5 Guys was pretty good but we have a little neighborhood place Gonzalez Grocers that crushes them. The place only sells burgers, onion rings, and fries. Coke from cans. Wait 30 minutes when they are slow. Is Smashburger anywhere y'all?
  13. We just stopped at El Pollo Loco for a quick lunch and I realized it is my favorite chicken chain. My favorite burger chain, Whataburger is also a regional chain. Whatcha got (chain wise) that you would miss if you moved? I would also add El Pato or Tacaria El Zarape for tacos.
  14. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) Responding to that list, Bobby Jenks at #6 is a laugh. Even having Willie Harris and Brian Anderson on the list is funny. Willie Harris scored the winning run but what else did he really do for us? And BA was a great defender but couldn't hit. But then I did say that I like everybody from the 2005 team. Definitely we still had a 2005 hangover when voting in 2008. There was a very long, involved argument about accomplishments and how that factored into favorite. Your favorite food may not score high in nutritional value, your favorite car may not win races or offer best in class safety performance, but they are your favorite.
  15. Two ways have worked for me. Subtle, going to sleep an hour earlier each night. So if it has been 5:00 am, try at 4:00 am etc. Drastic, drugs. Knock yourself out with some sleeping pills for a few nights.
  16. I hear Kenny and JR used this list to pick the next manager
  17. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66692 From August 6, 2008 and there are extensive bios and comments on most of the 50.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 05:33 AM) If someone's honest in their golf score they are either playing in the PGA or an honest person. And people need to stop acting like golf is easy to pick up in two months, no matter how often you play. Or sandbagging.
  19. There are more differences than similarities between baseball and golf. Plus, you do get a little better by being on the course, you really improve with range and putting green time. I'm guessing he spent all his time on the course and not spending any time practicing recovery shots.
  20. You will know if you are in a place where a "happy ending" is even possible. No legitimate massage professional will offer one and you will be insulting them and their profession. If you are in a spa with a well lit waiting room, receptionist with a large window that she slides open, offer of billing your insurance company, a bill that will be titled from that company, a professionally attired male or female masseuse, no happy ending. If you are in a dimly lit trailer, a half mile from a truck stop, a security person instead of a receptionist, a solid wood window that is too small to fit a head through, your credit card will be billed as some weird sounding company you never heard off (or better, please pay cash), the person offering the massage is wearing almost nothing at all, and she asks if you prefer baby oil or baby powder, happy ending. If they do offer happy endings, they want the extra cash (I hesitated to say tips) and will guide first time customers right through the process.
  21. And I just thought to add, I don't think Thomas craved that sort of attention.
  22. It takes more than ability to become a favorite, in fact, sometimes it may actually work against you. Granville Waiters was a huge Bull favorite during his stay because his entrance late in the game signaled the game was won, like a Red Auerbach cigar. With a couple minutes to play you heard the fans start chanting Gran-ville! Now look at Thomas, as one of the top players in the game while he was playing, how many endorsements did he have? Advertisers weren't beating down his door. You gotta have the charisma beyond the ability. Something else to make that crossover.
  23. When someone dies in battle we risk lives to bring their bodies out. Seems like we can show that sort of respect by allowing the body to cool before offering a retrospective. I guess I should highlight by that I mean positive or negative.
  24. At some point there is a retrospect of the person's career and impact which may, or may not, be flattering. The timing is everything. The day they die is probably too soon unless you are Bin Laden
