  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) Robin is my all-time favorite. Ozzie was on my list, as were Harold and Pudge. Recently it would have to be Buehrle. Same list, different order Buehrle, Pudge, Harold, Ozzie, Robin, "Hit Men"
  2. This btw, sucks for baseball. The Brew Crew goes from lovable to jerks in a blink of an eye.

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Ditto. Mega Ditto
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) Right, because all Democrats are poor...well, except for all the ones that are elected anyway. All the Dem are riding in private jets to their "green meetings".
  5. After reading the collectors account I am now even more convinced Braun was using PEDs.
  6. He's right. Normal years from some key guys will have this team in the hunt come September. I'm not holding my breath or planning my vacation around being in Chicago for a home stand like in every year since 1995.
  7. Belle probably has the highest ratio of hate to great season.
  8. Last year chanting "all in" worked so well
  9. I would really like to see the bottom line on a parking lot around a stadium.
  10. Unlearning a behavior is tougher than anything. Not swinging a bat for a couple months was probably a good thing. Maybe he ungrooved the problems. He wasn't sitting around the house getting fat. I prefer to dislike him for what he does not do while wearing a Sox uniform. I'm not going to add his off season stuff.

  12. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) It doesn't explain why Obama is flying them first class. Seems kinda expensive IMO. That's part of the punishment, they have to sit next to Republicans

  14. Money should be why digital "app books" take over. It is so much easier to buy textbooks peer to peer via eBay, Amazon, and other sites. The traditional earners of that money are cut out. Linking an "app book" to one or two devices will get the publisher and University back in the game. I'm thinking the formula could look like this Traditional Cost of write + cost to priint + profit = cost of comsumer App Books Cost to write + profit = cost to consumer. It should save the consumer money while keeping profits about the same. It will be the publishing factories that lose.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:53 AM) In waters that large & open, it's not that easy when they are in tiny motorboats. And you can't attack their homebase, as dangerous as it is. They have graduated from tiny motorboats. Now they have large "mother" ships that can create a base for the smaller motorboats. They also have rocket grenades and bigger weapons.
  16. With so many people watching out of market, they aren't just home announcers anymore. Watching the game with the away homer announcers is brutal.
  17. One of the best companies I've ever been associated with was Samtec in Indiana. Every department was titled Customer Service (XXX Done Here) It didn't matter if it was Engineering, Sales, Accounting, Logistics, Purchasing, they all were customer service. They also had a bunch of fun promotions and great spirit. The company culture thrived on who could go the furthest to help out a customer. The CEO was in the lead for answering the phone on a Sunday, finding the parts and driving 300 miles to deliver the order.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 06:42 PM) Not to Filibuster this thread but, Obama took out Bin Laden. My bad. (my next comment would have filibustered this thread)

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 05:57 PM) Forgive my ignorance, but why the f*** are Somali pirates such a problem? Why aren't we just having the Navy sink them left and right? Some of the problems are there is no legitimate government in Somalia, so they pirates have free reign. Further, it is Somalia's greatest source of cash money, so even if there was a legitimate government. there may not be a burning desire to shut them down too soon unless a lot of foreign aid could replace it. For the US Navy to get involved at that level would probably require some declaration from the President. With an election coming up, spending money and lives to protect foreign flagged ships may not be politically wise. On to the logistic side if someone really wants to fight these pirates. You have to find them on land, they are good at hiding and operating inside Somalia without their consent opens up some problems, but Bush took out Bin Laden in a foreign country, so that may not be such a problem. The pirates went from small boats, attacking private yachts, to buying better weapons and bigger boats with longer range. Before they were to small and nimble to find on the open water, now they are too heavily armed. And a boat floating in International waters isn't doing anything wrong until they do something wrong.
  20. I re read what I wrote, I should have written textbook "apps". Each textbook would be it's own app. Perhaps there would be some standard format. But I'm thinking it would be as easy as going to the Android Market and downloading the "Pearson's History 1401" app.
  21. QUOTE (SnB @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) I'm in grad school now and most of my classes do have an e-book option for the textbook. NO ONE uses it. I love my kindle for casual reading, but would find it obnoxious when you're just trying to flip through the pages to find one section to reference. I agree. What needs to happen is for the publishers to develop more of a textbook "app" than just the textbook as a book. Then you have a very compelling reason to switch.
  22. I'll have a go at it again.
  23. I believe the business model will keep the students from ever "owning" the book. Some fee will be added to each student and the schools and the publisher will make money. Most on-campus bookstores have seen a dramatic reduction in their profits and by extension, so too have the universities. For high school and below, the wear and tear on school district owned books is costly. Because those books are provided by the school, they will welcome the switch once they have bought enough e-Reading platforms. And finally, publishers could increase their profits by selling updates, multimedia upgrades, advertising onlinked sites, and probably a dozen more ways we haven't even thought about.
  24. I always find it ammusing that the "seat" for your car, outside on broken glass, is often more expensive than the seat the fan is sitting in.
