Good companies to work for
In this economy, any company that will hire you is a good company. Change later if it doesn't work out.

Finding jeans that fit right
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Funny thing is...there are people who wear $180 true religion and paper denim who thumb their noses at others who just wear regular Levi's from kohls, jc penney, and sears...BUT then the supposed "real" jean connoiseurs look down on and mock those pre-faded/distressed mall/department store brands since they're into $300 Japanese repro jeans made of Japanese selvedge, wearing them almost daily for a year without washing them. Me, I have a kohls card so I get my Levi's 501s for about $25 when they have the 30% off every month (slickdeals.net is nice), although I'm waiting for them to get some new colors/washes. I like how 501s fit me. Only thing I don't like is how fast they fade. I also found a pair of RRL Japanese selvedge made in the USA jeans for 45 at a marshalls. Only "high-end"-ish jeans I have. So I have about 8 pairs of Levi's 501s, couple of pairs of Polo, couple of j. crews, couple of express, and the RRLs, finding all of them on sale and never having paid more than 40 until the RRL ones. (I work at a community center so I wear jeans daily.) I have my choice of ties or solid blue, no designer labels, polo shirts and khaki slacks most days at work. Gee, that's a tough choice. A day or two we can wear jeans. Same rules, no designer labels. We consider Levis, Wranglers, Lees to be regular brands.

Finding jeans that fit right
Jeans are regional. Someone poked fun at Wranglers, but if y'all are down in Texas, a pair of Wranglers, stacked on your boots, is the norm. Some fancy ass designer jean look fine on some city chick, but a real man wouldn't wear 'em. Besides, that's what George Strait wears.

Dodge Automobiles
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) What are ya...old or sumthin'? Yer Edsel break down? I was driving a Cougar and my company forced me into a four door. Back in the late 80s the New Yorker / Dynasty had a similar body styling to the Cougar.

"Do these jeans make my ass look fat?" "No. Your ass makes those jeans look fat".

Dodge Automobiles
I owned a Chrysler New Yorker and was reasonably happy with it. I am currently driving an Intrepid which I am happy with. And I've had a couple three Ram trucks. I would not hesitate to buy another Dodge. Although currently I am leaning towards a Toyota truck as my next vehicle. Built in Texas and all.

Foreclose This!
QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) I'm not sure I am even understanding this--wouldn't the bank not make money but rather just recoup their losses? Although this person sounds so mind numbingly stupid that I probably shouldn't even try to understand this. The borrower would gain anything above the debt amount in the sale. Most people do not know that. On the other hand, the bank usually will accept a lower offer to move the asset quickly. It is a stressful situation and people do stupid things in stressful situations.

The Democrat Thread
It really is a shame what money does to politics. No doubt that politicians need money to get elected and re-elected. Also, if, for example, you are an alernative energy company and NSS (a strong advocate of alternative energy sources) was running for office, you would damn sure want him elected and would probably donate to his campaign. He in turn would be grateful for the support and easily accept your donation with a very clear concious. Later, if an alt energy bill was being debated, and the dollars were displayed, it looks bad.

The Procedural Filibuster
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) It just makes no sense that the filibuster is the way it is... I mean, the Senate is already an unequal body and it was designed that way on purpose, so there don't need to be any additional checks. There really is no reason a majority vote in the Senate shouldn't be good enough. How is the Senate unequal?

Home Security
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) I like the idea for sure. I'm not very handy however. Don't worry about modifying it then. I just ran a bolt through a couple holes and routed a wire to where you have to pull the pin out before it will slide. Basically, if someone was checking they would think that piece of trim doesn't slide out. It's about 4" high and 12" deep and 18" wide. Matches all the other trim, except it hides that drawer. I was honestly worried about having a nightmare and grabbing the gun and shooting at shadows.

Privitization efforts by the City of Chicago
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) You do not need electricians to plug in consumer appliances or carry in more than two bottles of water. It may have changed, but because the lights were part of a display case, it was ruled we needed a union guy to check it out and plug it in.

Home Security
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) I'd be interested to hear more about those secret compartments. I am not a huge gun advocate, but if some s*** goes down in this area some day, I want the ability to defend myself. My bedroom set has a couple drawers and areas that are not obvious. Basically pieces of trim hide shelves and such that lift or slide out. I saw them a several styles when I bought this quite a while ago. One compartment I drilled a couple holes in and modified it so you have to do a couple things and then it will slide open. Nothing too fancy, just enough. Visit a decent furniture store, they should have them.

Privitization efforts by the City of Chicago
I like the idea, unless they structure the bid where the contractor has to use union labor. I do not need a f***ing electrician to plug in my lamp at a trade show. Have them inspect the booths, that's fine with me, but I was so pissed when they made me hire a union electrician to plug in a light.

New Bears Stadium
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) You dont think that the view of Chicago and the Lakefront sells the Bears brand better than a field in the middle of no where? And since the Bears sell out every game and have a huge waiting list for season tickets, it seems that most people are fine with the elements. I think the Bears sell the Bears' brand. Wrigley sells the Cubs.

New Bears Stadium
If one team left the city, I always thought it would be the Sox. But I could see the Cubs in the suburbs. Other teams have made the move and survived. It's unlikely, but I would not rule it out. I always felt the Schaumburg White Sox would forever outdraw the Cubs. And I could even easier see the Bears out in the burbs. Yeah it would suck, but a dome in the burbs would be sold out for the next two decades.

Home Security
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Right I have a dog as well. But I heard stories of intruders poisoning dogs. Also my concern is when im on vacay or traveling because I put my dog in the kennel. Train the dog to not eat something unless you say "OK". I had my lab trained that way.

Home Security
Monitored security system. Now that the kids are older and not there all the time, I can get to a gun fairly quickly. My bedroom set has a couple hidden compartments which would take a burgler more than a few seconds to locate. One I modified to where it will not open without something else happening. So I feel reasonable safe that a burgler would not use my own gun on me. It also is an extra step that I would have to be awake enough to get to the gun and possible not accidentally shoot someone. And those that remember my position during some of the earlier gun debates, I am still against having a loaded gun in a house with children. I decided the risk of a break in was less than the risk of the kids screwing aorund and hurting themselves or someone else.
