  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) All private industry sucks. Government saves! Our government sucks! Enron GM Lehman Brothers Walmart saves.
  2. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) What kind of show are you looking for? Mainstream acts that never play closer than 5 hours from our house. Who is touring this summer?
  3. I saw AC/DC there way back when. First row. LOst my hearing for a while. It was known as the Aragon Brawl Room. QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Aragon. oo
  4. Damn, it has been too long since I've been back home. I will be back up in July and looking for a concert. Any suggestions?
  5. A good friend of mine loves his. He is a bit of a hardware realist who wants the right tool for the job. For him, he loves his home desktop for most of his computing. He has a laptop he uses for work that travels back and forth with him. He uses his cell phone's internet for quick info on the run. He calls his netbook his coffee shop/campout computer. A bigger screen than his cell phone so he can easier read his mail and do some light word processing, but not a table space killer like his laptop. His complaints are the smaller keyboard is tough to adjust to when you constantly move back and forth. No DVD drive. The internet is about 75% as effective as his home PC.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) I am exactly the same when when it comes to my car radios. I HATE the fancy tripped out stereos. She also isn't really excited about an add on unit, but a portable may be the way to go.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) She should have just bought a Honda Pilot, the XM comes built in. She considered it, it is a very nice vehicle. But she wanted to pay cash and her budget was about $20,000. Also, the Pilot was about the size of what she was trading in and she wanted something a little smaller.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) But those indirect costs are directly related to how broken our current system is. I was speaking only to the comparison between government required car insurance and health insurance.
  9. I know you want to engage Kap in this, but one difference is mandatory car insurance only protects the other person. What the government mandates is coverage for who you may harm, not coverage to cover yourself. There is a direct out of pocket expense when an uninsured person is involved in an accident. A person without health insurance who needs serious medical treatment only indirectly costs us money.
  10. My girlfriend has a new Honda CRV and wants to add a XM radio but hates the look of a lot of LEDs, electronic graphs for the EQ, etc. She also doesn't want to pay $500 for a factory head unit. So far the usual big boxes have yielded no satisfactory results. The regular season is coming up fast and I am trying to help her along.
  11. QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) When Rue McClanahan was recently hospitalized Betty White sent her a card that said something to the effect of "Hurry up and die so I can be the only Golden Girl left." That's awesome.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Utopia for everyone, any time, any place. Shouldn't that be the goal?
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) That they are ramming "health care reform" up our ass despite a majority of Americans hating this bill. Since the Dems and Reps are still going through the motions of deciding what is and is not in the bill, I wonder how we can know what to like or hate? As we've seen in poll after poll the phrasing of the question determines if the majority likes or hates this bill. I now this much . . . I know a lot of other countries have these types of systems in place. I know some suck and some are highly regarded. I know both sides are propagandist machines, with the GOP radio and TV network the best at spin. I know the US can run stuff better than any other country in the world. I have confidence in our ability to craft the greatest system in the world I know the Reps will hate it because they will not get credit. I know the Dems will try to make it seem like the greatest no matter how good or poor it is.
  14. The DA has had an amazing career of political activism. He was a central player in bringing equality to Raymondville.

  16. I have never found it disrespectful. Althought, to be truthful, many in the crowd are just maiking noise for niose sake, and not out of any patriotic feeling. The event has become bigger than the anthem. I have a hard time having my classes either recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge, or remaining silent. They also insist on talking instead of remaining silent during the moment of silence. That really annoys me.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Great interview. Tanks for reminding bschmaranz. Franks' son is going to college next year to play ball. Some prospect geeks like myself can't possibly wait to see how he develops. He's got a long way to go though like Frank said as he picked up baseball late. If he picked up baseball late, I give Frank major kudos as a dad for letting his kid follow his own path.
  18. Instead of just listing the new division, I'd be interested in what everyone was trying to accomplish? reduced travel? competition? rivals? Seems to me any plan would have as desired result of more revenue and profits.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Let me guess, no kids? Correct QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) You have to live somewhere where the cost of living is very low to accomplish that feat. On the flip side, wages are also low, so he would have earned more. He drove the same truck for 15 years. Bought a very modest home and paid for it in 5 years. Rarely went to an expensive dinner out. Bought $25 jeans. Used coupons. Was happy with a simple life. Hated paying interest so rarely borrowed any money. He and his wife love to read and visit with friends so "regular" TV was fine with them and only bought a new one when the old one no longer worked. If there is someone in your company earning half of what you earn, then it is possible. You might not be willing, if it isn't your goal to retire in your late 40s / early 50s you probably don't want to even try, but it is possible.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) I hope he is good at building sailboats. Very good. Mid 30 foot. Even more critical he is an excellent sailor and marine mechanic.

I would just like to mention one thing. A friend of mine, + or - 50 by a couple three years just retired. He never earned more than $60,000 per year, never spent more than $25,000. That's right, he saved over *half* of his income every year. I will be working at least another 15 years to retire on less than he has. He built a sailboat and will soon be starting a circumnavigation of this planet with his wife.
  22. A few posts back the subject of being a baseball fan first and a Sox fan second was raised. For most of my adult life (beginning circa 1980) to enjoy Sox baseball you had to enjoy baseball. The experience of going to the park. There wasn't much of a competitive reason to head to the Southside after August. For me it is a simultaneous feeling. That probably frames my opinion that you have to play the games. When I was playing a lot of golf, I always expected my oponent to hit the perfect shot, that way I was never unprepared. Same here. I expect their closer to be just as good, I expect he'll be back earlier rather than later, etc. So I can feel empathy that one of the better players, who seems like a decent sort of guy, is injured.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) When Oh When are we going to get more political parties so its not one way or the other. Imagine the grid lock when either party needs the third to pass anything. Imagine the deals that would need to be cut to get those votes. I'll pass on a third party with any power.
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) Never like seeing guys get injured, especially good people, but I ain't shedding a tear. ^^^
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 07:09 AM) Well to be fair, they used to be against it, until they needed it... Exactly. And now the Dems need it, so they are using it. At least the Dems have learned a thing or two from the Grand Old Party™.
