  1. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) its interesting how Uribe's avg goes up 40pts as soon as he leaves Chicago. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) and how Swishers goes up 30 pts I doubt they are on Walker's resume
  2. QUOTE (Ranger @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) Uh, yeah, we're back to that. You know, where every other baseball team in the world is: the expectation that guys will produce at their norms. Nobody said that regression wouldn't be expected, but the difference between the .277 Konerko hit last year and the .214 he's currently hitting, wouldn't be classified as "regression". That's severe dropoff. Pierre is about 80 points off, AJ is over 100 off. Those guys shouldn't be "if's". They should be considered constants with the likelihood of slight regression. If all of them were batting at least .260 (totally reasonable, and actually, somewhat conservative), the dynamic would be completely different right now. To continue, with those guys it is reasonable to expect them to finish somewhere close to last year's stats. So a few hot streaks can and should be expected.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 08:11 AM) Yes, 100%, absolutely.....he and Jose Valentin have been two of the most underrated and underappreciated White Sox players in my lifetime. I would agree they were underappraciated for their baseball abilities, but that 'stash was very much appreciated.
  4. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Your ladyfriend will think you are a cocktail rockstar after she tastes your Tahitian Sunset. I couldn't find the El Dorado at two liquor stores near me.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 07:28 AM) Good man. When it arrives I'll give you a heads-up on some recipe tweaks in the new version that I think Jeff messed up ingredient ratios on, but it is nevertheless a stellar compendium of recipes. I went straight to the back of the book to try all of the new recipes that Jeff compiled from the best of what the modern cocktail has to offer. last night, I spun up a Cuzco Fizz with muddled green grapes, Chilean Pisco Capel, lime juice, and St. Germaine elderflower liqueur that was very tasty and refreshing. Tonight will be the recipe you sent a couple days ago. I need to make a liquor store stop on the way home.
  6. QUOTE (SteveB23 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) I have been a lifelong Democrat, but because I didn't trust Obama with re. Israel, I couldn't vote for BO in good conscience. Unfortunately, it seems that my fears were (are) reality. http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0410/tobin041910.php3 Welcome back. You tipped your identity pretty quickly.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) The Twins won the WS in 1987 and 1991. How long do the White Sox get to live off of 2005 before it doesn't count at all? QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 01:34 AM) I guess we just have different versions of "success" 2000-2009 Twins- 5 postseason appearances, 6 PS wins, 1 DS win 'Hose- 3 postseason appearances, 11 PS wins, 1 DS win, 1 pennant, 1 ring I know, I know, 2005 doesn't count anymore. But really, 2 more appearances and 1/2 the number of wins is "success"? I've always viewed success as winning championships, not divisional crowns in a s*** division. And lets also remember that they will have at least 25% of their payroll dedicated to one player (yes he's a top 3 in the game) and unless they plan on being in the 9 figure range for the next 8 years, that's quite a big risk for them. Thanks. Saved me some typing.
  8. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Beachbum Berry's Remixed has finally shipped, Placing an order . . .
  9. Let me be the first to say, great post. Let me also be the first to point out the huge difference in number of World Series wins this century versus most of the teams you mentioned.
  10. The fun will begin when all the bats turn on at the same time for a couple week stretch. I feel a 9-1 stretch coming.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) Before commenting, let's all take a moment to re-read the Hardball times piece from a few years ago giving the average ERA of each starting position throughout the league. Very interesting read. Thanks for posting and for the MBINAA crowd, I love this quote How about for a career?
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) It needs to stop. It sure does. IMHO it will stop when citizens stop throwing rocks at the "other party" and start holding their own party accountable. I'm not certain what it will take for that to happen.

    QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) The dog?!
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) There's spending, and then there's abuse. Exactly. And we both know there is a fine line between abuse and justified spending and that line gets drawn differently if it is your team or the other team. To borrow your line "they all do it"™

    QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) If it wasn't my yard or my mower, it would be hilarious to watch. It was my yard and my mower and yes, it was hilarious to watch. Add in the dog waiting for a piece to go flying . . . And this stuff looks a whole lot better than what I bought, which literally was off the back of a truck with the crew going door to door. They claimed it was left over from a playground project.
  16. Now to catch a little offensive fire and life could be good in a week or two.

    It did seem to protect the kids when they fell.

    QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) loose stuff....it's recycled rubber tires. Like this stuff... http://www.rubberecycle.com/playground_rubber_mulch.asp Yep, I used it once. It may have improved from the early version I used. My biggest problem was the dog enjoyed playing with it. So he would run, grab a chunk and toss it around the yard . . . twenty or thirty times a day . . . each time with a different piece . . . every f***ing day . . . then you hit it with a mower.

    QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Anyone have any experience with it? Thinking of using it under a playset. Some people swear its the best stuff, others have complained it gets too hot and has an order. Are you talking the loose stuff or the mats?
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Bobby Cox Thank you. I would have guessed wrong. It seems that Tony has been there since the 1970s
  21. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) I have always thought LaRussa was a very overrated manager. Isn't he the longest tenured manager at this time? At least with the same team.
  22. I'm surprised that Ozzie even thinks about getting fired.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Holy crap, get off your high horse. Did anyone do that? Not if there was an accident, but just as a general rule. If Pelosi and Clinton wouldn't fly with Obama to something, yeah there would be s*** said about two planes taking them. In reverse the Dems would be all over the wastefulness and the "greenhouse gases". Both sides try to make s*** out of everything.
  24. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Al Campanis the man who helped ease Jackie Robinson's transition to the big leagues. Who because of a few ill chosen words was descended upon like a pack of wolves and essentially had the end of his life ruined. Another side of the Campanis story As for Ozzie, when he was first hired it should have been obvious that he could be a train wreck waiting to happen. And I believe that Ozzie, when he makes some of these comments, also is not being knowingly racist, homophobic, etc. But, it will be his mouth, not W-Ls, that does him in. And, if I understand where you were going with the Campanis follow-up, Oz will probably not deserve it either.
  25. Something that Kalapse said earlier got me to thinking about the negativity. IF, for example, Peavy continues to slide and the worse fears come true, some people will be able to point to April 14 and say they knew way back then. Also, we all we agree at some time angst is warranted. What is the crossover point? That is probably different for every person. Some people panic at the first sign of trouble, others have much more patience.
