  1. I am certain everyone here with degrees will encourage all of you to drop out of college. That way, years from now, we'll hear you b**** that you were denied a promotion because a college degree was required, or they won't even interview you. Meanwhile, those with degrees will be promoted and interviewed. The choice is yours. And college is not just a path for your career. Some people actually value education for education's sake. I could write a scenario where the kid that dropped out of high school winds up managing the college grad, but that isn't reality and hasn't been for a long time. Check the want ads, without a degree of any kind, you will not be considered for positions. Why start a job search by eliminating possibilities? And at least in my corner of Texas, you will not be a bank manager without a degree. That's a minimum.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) These universities should not be entitled to build up annuities in the hundreds of millions or even billions while charging students outrageous tuitions to try and contribute to the economy and have a successful career. Actually much of that comes from donations. By spending the interest and not the principle, the university is helping to assure their future. It really is better than having them spend the principle.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Clearly defense spending isn't going anywhere, but there are costs that can be cut within the defense/security budget. You hear stories all the time about the Pentagon ordering up planes/weapons that are never going to be used. Absolute waste. Yeah, it does suck when we don't have somewhere to use this stuff. Thankfully we have Iraq and Afghanistan for now.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) Normal Laredo
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) I guess it depends on which brackets we're talking about here, but this article suggests it's going to include every tax bracket, including getting rid of the 10%. So, even if you make 40k, enjoy paying an extra 5% to the government to help pay for absolutely nothing. Like paying for the Iraq war?
  6. I agree some of those numbers look fake. It is a nice list of the GOP "talking points".
  7. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) depends who the opponent is. Rick Perry.. i don't see him doing too well in the Ohio/PA/VA/FL areas. In those areas, moderates tend to do better than conservatives. (and i think Perry is more conservative than McCain) Iowa, Colorado, NC, IN... he can probably win. Actually Perry would have an easy time painting himself as a moderate. Even better, he can speak about his "conversion" when the Dem party "left him" and he switched to the Repulican side of the aisle. Who is more moderate than an ex-Dem now GOP governor. Ah crap, I'm actually beginning to believe he could find himself in the hunt.
  8. QUOTE (soxman352000 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) In need of some advice. Finally told the girl I've been interested in pursuing a relationship with how I felt about her. She was speechless and proceeded to say "I need time to process this." What should my next move be? What the hell should I do? Move on. The processing time is to explain why she likes you as a friend.
  9. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) the question is... can Rick Perry win Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Colorado, Florida, Virginia, Indiana, New Mexico, Iowa, North Carolina??? The current President can. We'll see how things are in a couple years. The premise of the article is Obama would be vulnerable.
  10. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) I'll make it easy on you and meet you in Key West. Seriously. . . when do you want to meet up in Key West??? I was about to say I'd rather meet up in the Carolinas, we are considering a 13 Colonies summer trip, but after reading this . . . QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Ach, I dream of being able to drop out of society for a couple months and just do the Key West thing. Then again, I make a$less leather chaps looks good, so it's just something I hate to waste. Maybe Key West would be better sunshine buttercup
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) They should shift Mauer to 3B within a year or two if they are smart. Good idea Hawk, or maybe left field . . .
  12. QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Minneapolis is not one of the league's smallest TV markets. This misconception is ridiculous and is based on the Twins owners pinching pennies. With a new ballpark and plenty of new revenue coming in from it, they have no excuse not to spend money on the team now. I thought (And I could be wrong) that the area was huge for winter viewers, small for summer.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Is there really that much more room for revenue growth in NY/Bos? Good point and it makes the Twins a better draw on the road.
  14. There are all those pretty oil rigs, and IIRC don't I have to get around to the east coast?
  15. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) At least there is some concentration going on in Texas. Don't make me sail over there . . .
  16. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Hey dude, do you remember how you used to prepare the liquid cheese from the big industrial cans? Did you just pour it into a pot and heat it up and serve it? Or did you have to pour milk in it, too? The reason I ask is because I never noticed anyone mix milk in with that stuff. The stuff in the cans you buy in stores around here all require it. Basically the cheese is concentrated.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) And Rick Perry is part of that WEAK GOP field. Exactly. And again, and just the opinion of the writer, it is exactly the sort of situation Perry has capitalized on time and time again. He keeps turning up in the right place at the right time.
  18. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) About how much milk in proportion to cheese are you supposed to pour in? I worry about diluting the cheese too much. The ratios are on the can. And I've seen the stuff at my local mega mart and Wal Mart. It's with the 10 gallon 1,000 Island Dressing and the "Float a boat in it" BBQ sauce.
  19. Most of the stores by me sell it I've picked it up at Sams Club. Basically you have to mix it with milk and heat it up.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) So you're saying Perry/Palin '12 for President of the Republic of Texas? I don't know of any other big cities they could win across the country. Heck..they'd come in last place in Austin come to think of it. First off, there are not too many large GOP cities. He'd probably carry many of the Bush states. And the Palin thing was just a toss in. The other factor they mentioned in the article was the weak GOP field.
  21. She has an image of who she wants to be with and she's trying/tried her best to mold you into that. Then she started thinking she didn't have the right materials to work with, and thought about this other guy. At some point, sooner rather than later, find out what she is looking for and see if you can be that guy for the rest of your life. From what I read, I'd tell her that you need some space to work this all out in your heart and in your head. See what her reaction is. If it isn't close to what you gave her, this relationship will continue unbalanced with you giving more than receiving.
  22. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) With all due respect, I thought Republicans were supposed to be wrapping their heads around winning over voters who live in these things called cities. Perry and Palin? Cities? Like Houston #4 San Antonio #7 Dallas #8 Austin #15 Fort Worth #17 El Paso #20 Seems like there are plenty of city people and cities in Texas. And Kap, grab the Texas Monthly on the news stand before the Bum Steer awards issue comes out this week. They build a very convincing case. He's one of my favorite Republicans. You know, after you and 2k5
  23. I finally finished the article. In a nutshell, the rational that he could win . . . Governor of a large GOP state Texas' economy is doing rather well Guess who is Finance Chair for the Republican Governor's Association? Perry, which gives him access to national money. He's a battler and survivor So my GOP buddies, he could be your guy. Perry - Palin '12
  24. It is a good sign for baseball's smaller markets. I also think it is bad for baseball in one way. One of the best talents is in one of the smallest TV markets.
  25. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Buehrle just out of respect for the fact that he has been THE guy for the Sox for the past decade. Peavy should understand this. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Mark has earned it and I am sure Jake won't mind at all QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Buehrle. It is his team until proven otherwise. Exactly. No doubt in my mind. You have to earn that start on the team the year before.
